I just had a great (perhaps) idea: a HomestarRunner.com fanzine! We (the wiki folks) could make a monthly issue showing all the changes that month, editorials, transcripts of new toons, and more! Each issue we make could be printed out and be given freely away. As in, it's free. We don't want to make money off of TBC's work. After each toon transcript, or whatever, we could have reviews, and a URL to discuss it on the wiki or forum. Tell me what you think. ~Kp |

~Kp Uh... isn't that what we pretty much do on the forum? Talk about the new Homestar Runner stuff? And the transcripts are all on the Wiki... You want to have a magazine? Those cost lots of money to produce. Lots of money. And take lots of time. And you'd have to know how to publish one. |

You want to have a magazine? Those cost lots of money to produce. Lots of money. And take lots of time. And you'd have to know how to publish one. I read an article in the last issue of GameNow that told how to produce fanzines. This is for people who don't have internet access, don't really know much about H*R, and other people. It doesn't take much: most fanzines are (at the max) 16 pages, which means 8 sheets of paper doubled over. Marketing? Just make a couple of copies at Kinkos, then go to some hometown shop and ask them if you could give these away for free. Then, we could see how many are left at the end of the week, and see how succesful we are. Transcripts? How else are we going to do toons (although, we could do comics...)? Also, tips could be found on Google. |

The trouble is that the only way to get people who've never heard of H*R interested in H*R is for them to see it. A fanzine, even by definition, is intended for people who are already fans and interested in it. People who don't have Internet access don't fall into that category. |

Also, it seems like this idea for your town. You are thinking locally. We have users all over the globe. Australia, Japan, Canada, Great Britain, and Sweden, just to name a few. Is every user going to do this? How are you going to get the information to them? And you expect this to be done weekly? And again, where are you going to get the money to do this? How are you going to get this money halfway around the world? |

I think that it would be best to make this monthly, not weekly. I also said that (even though it would be kinda hard) I (maybe) could convert the toons/e-mails into a comic-like thing. We could post this on a subpage of my UserSpace, but only in English, for English-speaking countries. Then people could just copy and paste. People could print it out if they wanted to, or something. In conclusion, I have to go now. So, bye. For now. |

Tom wrote: Those cost lots of money to produce. Lots of money. Why not just... tell your friends about Homestar Runner? Then, if they get interested, they might tell their friends. That's how it's been working for a while now. Simple enough, right? |

I agree with the "bad guys" here; producing an on-paper fanzine is silly because you gotta be connected to the 'net to really follow anything anyway. It'd be cool to do, sure, but I think the costs (time, money, and effort) far outweigh the benefits. - Kef |

What may be more plausible would be a newsleter (or you could call it a fan letter if you wanted). Basically, you could do everything you described (short of mailing an 8 page leter to everyone). Instead of printing it out, you could write it up in email form (or if you don't want to do that, create your own little webpage and send everyone the link). {anxiously awaits Tom's disapproval.... ![]() Edit: I just noticed that there is already a post about this. I don't know which came first, but you could check out this link. ![]() |

Who's going to write this newsletter? Kupo? Nelson? Would either of them submit things to the Wiki for approval before they send them out? How would the community even go about selecting someone to do this? And the people getting this e-newsletter, they are already WikiUsers? Why would they need to know what was going on? They could just go to the Wiki. Stu wrote: I just noticed that there is already a post about this. I don't know which came first, but you could check out this link.
Oh, and I saw that other thread, but noticed Kef's response. I didn't want to pile on or anything. I was just waiting for a response to what Kef asked. |

What about a Webzine? Or web newletter. That would work. You're connected to the 'net, and email doesn't cost. |

Maybe you could just put it on the Wiki. |

It's still a matter of who is going to write it. If you wanted to create something like this on the wiki, you are more then welcome to. If people like it, they will help. If they don't, you will probably be on your own (unless they remove it). One of the big points of a wiki (in my mind) is that you can do stuff like this. Not necessarily a fanzine, but sometimes webmasters forgot or don't see something. But there is also that expression of what too many chefs do to the soup. sigh |

I think makeing a webpage would be easy, just get word or frontpage and presto, webpage just find free hosting and presto! you got yourself a website have the newest transcripts (baleet ones after three weeks) along with the easter eggs, lots of links short bios of characters like the wiki, only SCRUNCH'D it would be the newest things to happen on the site that affects the whole wiki like say a new email, not like someone typeing in their userspace. did i menchen i took a website design class? |

So basically, you want to have something exactly like the Wiki... only not like the Wiki. Why don't you just go to the Wiki? Or not go to the Wiki? |

I think it would also be coull to convert some action-oriented SBE-mails and/or Toons into comic-like strips. |
