I think we should delete users who have 0 posts and have been registered for over 3 months should be deleted. Although some people may think this is mean, I wish for a forum were there aren't those annoying 0 posts people who plague the memberlist like Trogdor on a countryside. Post your feelings on this.

While I do agree with the sentiment that you should only register if you actually plan on posting, I don't really think the member list needs to be pruned. It's a bit callous. Besides, if you really want to see who actually posts or has posted, you can just set up the member list to order people by post count in descending order. That way, all the zero-post people are at the bottom and you don't have to look at them.

It might be necessary in the future as the wiki grows, but I see no reason to delete anyone right now...

I was thinking about this subject recently, and I, too, considered the benefits of eliminating non-posters. But then an idea came into my head: what if some of these guys are still on the forum, but waiting for something to catch their interest before they post? It would be rather cruel to baleet their usernames, only to have them have to reapply.

I don't have a problem with people who just joined, but it's the people that joined, like, 4 months ago. I also think, is it so hard to reapply? All they really have to do is press the little button, fill in the info, go to their E-Mail and activate, and PRESTO!

:buzzer: you forgot for MEMBERS UNDER 13! They gotta get an email, print it out, scribble on the password, mail it to joey and he might approve that person.

The only question I have regarding this topic is... why?

The users that don't have any posts aren't doing anything (good or bad), so I don't see any reason to remove them. The only outcome I can see coming out of this is that we alienate someone who was just hesitant in posting. (Lurking isn't a crime).

Perhaps you guys are seeing something that I am not, if so... please fill me in. If not, then can we let this topic die?

Well, Stu, does the amount of users at all affect the speed of the network? If so, that's an obvious reason to do something about this, but otherwise, there's no reason.

Not that I am aware of.

If a user has 0 posts, then they are exerting 0 load on the server.

Now, that may not be completely accurate. Simply by having an account, they are exerting some load on the server. However, this pales in comparison with the other users (especially those making oodles of posts, or those with abnormally large avatars/signatures)...

Well, in that case, until there is a significant amount of them making the server slower, there shouldn't be anything done with them. But then again, how do we measure this? I would guess we just leave this up to the admins to decide.

Well, they only take up bandwidth when someone browses through the lower end of the user list and when they first sign up. They also take up a small amount of disk space, but not enough to buhleet them over.

Honest to goodness, what effect are they having on you? What does it matter to you whether they post or not?

I've said this before, I know, but this issue only really matters to people who peruse the member list, and even then, you set up the list so you don't see those HORRID, EVIL zero-post users, like so:

1) Select "Sort by Total Posts" from the first box.
2) Select "Descending" order from the second box.
3) Click "Sort"

Wow. Now all the ATROCIOUS, GOD-FORSAKEN zero-post users are at the bottom of the list, where you can't see them, and pretend they don't exist! Wasn't that fun?

No, because my best friend is registered on this forum and he never posts.

Hey Sparkle, maybe you can get the answer from your friend. Why doesn't your friend post anything? Are they afraid to, or something else? Maybe if we can find why your friend isn't posting we can have an idea why others aren't.

ps. Don't you love necromancy?

At one place i frequent at, every six months or so they do a "cull". they make people put list on all or one of the boards(like...make a board 'specially for it) so that after a certain period, if you haven't replied to it, you get culled. Any member who is "just looking around" and has 0 posts, even though they have been here for a while, would see that that place is pretty important and post there.

While scrolling randomly through the memberlist once, I saw a user with one post whose username was "neverpostagain". I'm sure he can be baleet'd.

Maybe users should be PM'd or email'd, asking whether or not their accounts can be DELETED!:sb:. Especially some of the ones I see who joined in May and haven't done a thing.

That's "is he" or "is she". Don't use "they" to refer to only one person (I couldn't resist pointing this out since you're also on the grammar campain).

Though I don't actively publicize it, I am too a Grammarian, and if you look at the context of ramrod's post, he was referring to the group of zero post users. He was not talking about one person, but the entire set of Zeroeresrsesrs.

Zero post users may simply be people who want to browse the forum and simply only read posts. They log in to take advantage of how phpbb keeps track of what posts they have read.

Or maybe they like to get an email when a new post is made to a topic they like.

Would you want to take this away from some poor person? Imagine if we just deleted your forum account because someone doesn't like having to scroll past your name when they look through the user listing. How would you feel?

There are people we are talking about here, not just user accounts.

That sounds needlessly complicated. No thanks.

Well you can at least delete those users who's accounts haven't been activated. There's a mod that gives you a nice list of who's is active and who's isn't, plus it tells you how long their account has been inactive. Yeah, suggestion. These are the people who can't login to only read posts.

Yeah, some of them might have good names that the new users might want to take.

I think that'd be a good idea. While browsing through the memberlist, I came across a couple of users who don't seem to know that they can change their username (The Ch_kt is Not Dead - no offense intended) and therefore register a bunch of accounts while deciding on a name.
