This would mainly be for pictures, but I think there should be a sertain amount of posts to get before posting pics or links. That way Trolls won't pollute our minds with those... images. Trust me, trolls are not patient people. They want to destroy things quick. They'll also show that they're spammy at the beggining. Plus there should be a swear filter that doesn't put stars to replace it, but just destroys the swear word all together so you don't see anything where the swear was. |

Hey...that's a good idea! It might make somepeople post spam a little more, but I think it would be worth it! |

I don't see the advantage. We don't really have a big troll problem. Why fix what ain't broke? |

Well, we have been having more trolls recently. And it only takes one time to have an image scared into your brain. Better safe then emotinaly damaged. |

Lu Bu, you've been on since April. No offense, but what benchmark are you going by, exactly? Anyway, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to such a thing, but the clincher here is whether or not there's a phpBB mod(ification) that will do it. We can't just make this functionality appear out of thin air. If you guys can find a mod that'll make it happen, the admins might consider installing it. |

Yeah, you're right. I shouldn't be judging anything. Well, whatever, if anybody can find a way, I'm for it. |

Actually, we already do that. If you see stars, a user used them. |

No. They said baby f*** all over the forum, WITHOUT the stars. |

about that swearing filter.... i had a forum of my own at one time. and i made my own filter. It replaced things like this: f-bomb = funk s-word= crap 3 letter word for donkey= butt female dog= idiot what a beaver makes= dang where bad people go when they die= heck it really kept things clean and it didnt sound all that out of place when people said stuff. |

I think that in most cases we can get the idea from the context. Besides, we tend to have a lot of religious discussions hereabouts, so not being able to mention Hell or damnation might be a pain in the bum. I think our filter is doing well. It only ticks me off when people use @ or $ to try to get around it. |

Upon further consideration, I think this is a really bad idea. One of the first things people like to do when they join our forum is post their photo in the Post Your Pics thread, and I think a lot of new members would be annoyed if they weren't allowed to do that. |

I think a better idea would be to how many pictures a user can post in a certain amount of time. |

[quote] yea, the forum I was moderating didn't exactly have the deepest conversations...i'm not saying we should use the exact ones I programed into mine, and I'm not even saying we need one. I'm saying that it's possible to do what you're suggesting. |

How? If they only post pictures to spam, and this restricts them from doing so to a certain point, all it does is delay the attacks. So I'm not for this. Why should we restrict people from privillages that are supposed to be for everyone just because they don't have that many posts? |

Yeah, this would likely even increase spam -- people post crap so that they are allowed to post links. BTG wrote: That's because it was posted in their pics. They didn't type it. Either that or they just put in some formatting in the middle of the word. Some trolls will add something like '[b][/b]' in the middle of a word to bypass the censor. So like, if 'carp' was censored, 'ca[b][/b]rp' wouldn't be.

Having the link and picture limit may be a great idea to destroy any posts that contains any "porn" in them. It also will reduce a great amount of troll problem. We should have a troll removal plant or something so that there will be no trolls affecting this forum. |

But, as IJ plainly stated above, we really don't have that big a troll problem. And, if you'll notice, there's no mod for this anyway. ed 'lim' smilde wrote: Yeah, this would likely even increase spam -- people post crap so that they are allowed to post links.
Stop reading my mind. |

I dunno, some trolls might just say "heck with it" and move on to a different, easier forum to attack, instead of wasting time posting random things 'till they can. Plus, they might resort to troll-esque spamming to reach the set number, so the admins can get to him before he can post pictures. Yeah, although I think it would probably help a little, I'm not too happy with the idea. I think all members should be equal, even if it means taking a little risk. |

So? PHP has some built-in functions to strip HTML tags, which can also be applied to BBCode. Strip them out and apply the censoring. Problem solved. |
