Should we add a sightings page? It'll tell different places or shows that referenced or had a picture of somthing from Homestar runner.

That sounds like an interesting idea.

I got it from two other homestar fan sites that did it.

If you can a) make a whole page out of it, and b) keep it organized, I say sure, go ahead. Aside from TMBG stuff, I only know of one pop-culture reference to H*R (the Buffy-Trogdor connection), but I'd be interested to know of more.

However, I'd like to keep it limited to interesting stuff. "I saw a guy on the subway with a The Cheat messenger bag" is not interesting. But a photo of a big Trogdor graffiti mural would be interesting.

Furthermore, a lot of web references aren't so interesting. The Red vs. Blue Strong Bad reference was cute and maybe deserving of a mention, but we should avoid posting every time a web site makes reference to SB. Keep it confined to more out-of-the-ordinary stuff. Now, if CNN does a story about TBC, that's news.

Hmm... it might be a good idea if we only had interesting ones, but you know someone's going to write "I saw someone on the subway with a The Cheat messenger bag". Besides, how do we define interesting in web references? I say keep it on the forum.

next problem, under wiki or official site colums?

Seems pretty obvious to me. It's not stuff that's on the official site, it doesn't belong in the official site category.

Hmm. I see that you did. cyco, did you honestly think that using the line "*Sightings - Tell about where you different Homestar related is.(not web sites or randoms with tees)" would work? Seriously.

And the page... is it complete? Do you plan on formatting it? Do you have more than two sightings?

I'm seriously thinking that this might be better in the forum than on the Wiki. A picture from some magazine that isn't published anymore (that has thirteen words in it), a commercial you saw while you were watching cartoons (that you don't give any details about), and a link to a video we've had on HomestarLinks for a long time aren't really the "whole page" InterruptorJones was talking about earlier.

I don't think your page is going to work on the Wiki. The forum is more suited for pages that say "I saw this thing here on this day" and "Well I saw that thing over there on some other day."

What do you think? Anybody else have comments?

Well, I think the page has potential...
It could be very informative and whatnot...we just need to be a little choosier with the "sightings" we use.

Perhaps we could start a string here on the forum, and if we get enough information, we could move it to the wiki in a formatted, organized, agreed-upon manner.

Exactly.

Some may not know it, but a significant amount of the traffic on the Wiki is from users that just go there for the information. Now, I'd love it if they would all contribute, but if people choose not to (for whatever reason) I'm cool with that.

So having a link on the main page to a page that has four items on it... that aren't formatted... and have spelling errors...

I think it might confuse people. Like AgentSeethroo suggested, having a thread about it here on the forum where we can collect ideas before launching this page on the Wiki seems... more better. That way it won't look like it was done by a two-years-old-boy.

I keep noticing all these silly "sightings" and personally, I'm getting peeved. They're unorganized and irrelevant.
Maybe I'm getting picky and grumpy in my old age, but the wiki needs to look good, and frankly, the sightings page looks like crap.

and I hate text adventures.

I just had an idea. We should categorize the sightings page with subpages.

It could be something like:

Magazine sightings
References by famous people
Stuff I saw and took a picture of

etc., etc.

those kinda suck, but you get the picture.

And I think it's great if each sighting comes with a picture. Kinda like proof. Only easily forged.

That in itself could be kinda funny...like StrongBad with the President or something :usa: ...but it could also get out of hand too!

Okay, I've decided to reorganize the "Sightings" page.

If anyone wants to help, I'd appreciate it. Let's make this page look like it belongs on our wiki, not an angelfire crap-site.

You do know that the last before yours was back in July, right? And we all know that Angelfire is untrustworthy, so no need to inform us on that.

The last before mine? What?
Angelfire? How does that tie into anything.

Well, isn't that what you were talking about earlier? And the post before yours was posted back in July. This is March. That's like 8 months of necromancy.

I wasn't talking about Angelfire... and, heck, it was on the first page, so I went for it. I don't check those things.

You should, because the mods would probably like you to. I suggest checking the Forum Rules at the top of each forum.
