I read in this month's Wired magazine that Paul Slocum had finished his atari game and was selling the cart for $40; but Paul says on his website that he's pushing the release date back to June.
Can/does/would/should the wiki talk about the atari game?

Thanks :)

I don't think the wiki should be discussing atari games, unless they specifically pertain to homestar runner. I have no problems with people talking about them over here on the forums, but the wiki should be a place for information related to homestar.

(also, I moved this into the poll forum... stu)

He's talking about the Homestar Runner atari game.

Regardless, I think it belongs on the forum. That's why it was created, right?

Well... the way I see things, once the game is created then I have no problems with a wiki page being devoted to it. Until it is actually a game, I just don't see much use for it on the wiki. But if you create a page for it, and no one else complains, then I have no problem with it. :)

Ok thanks, and I'm sorry I spaced mentioning which game I was refering to ;) Also I didn't add a poll until I noticed you could do that :]
So I side with stu: it should hit the Wiki when it gets released. Meantime, anyone know why Wired would claim it already has been? Were they maybe anticipating it would have been released by the time the story printed?

I don't think it would hurt anything to start up a page on the wiki about the homestar atari game now. You could have sample screen shots (if any are available) and let people know when it is coming out. I think that's pretty useful information. Then when the game comes out, the wiki will do it's thing and it'll grow from there.

I think it should stay on the forum until it comes out. When it comes out, we could put a walkthrough and stuff.

Um, so why do you guys think there shouldn't be a wiki page before the game comes out? What's the harm? I mean, there's a good chunk of the internet dedicated to video games previews. I think it's pretty legitimate information.

I don't mind either way, I'm just curious about your reasons. [It's not like I'm gonna make the page--I'm pretty lazy.]

The information we have regarding the Atari 2600 H*R game isn't very...informational.
Knowing the way the wiki goes, it would turn into thousands upon thousands of speculative comments.
I think it'd be best if we just waited until we have plenty of concrete information on the game.

Why can't we just talk about in forum? I agree with DGF. Let's leave it off the wiki until it's official.

Yeah, that's pretty much the reason. All I've ever seen about this is a few screenshots and short demo.

Yeah, I guess you're right. A page full of wild speculation wouldn't really be helpful to anyone.

I'm pretty sure that the game is gonna stink. It might not, but I just have this feeling that it is gonna be a loser game.

Plus I dont have an atari.

The game is meant to be run on an emulator. How did you think you were gonna get it on to the Atari?

There's a demo available, why not go download it?

It would be possible to burn EPROMs and put it on an actual cartridge, though people very rarely do that. (Too bad we don't have the ten million Pac-Man and E.T. cartridges that were crushed and buried to practice on. And no, that wasn't an exaggeration.)

I tried programming the Atari 2600. The thing is just nuts. You have to keep track of time in your code and if you mess up, the whole display gets screwed. That may sound like it's not too bad, but it is. 76 cycles per scanline (row of pixels) is NOT a lot of time to draw that line.

As hard as it is to make ATARI2600 games, to my knowledge it has more homebrew fancarts (like actual physical carts) than any other system. They usually only show up at fancons though since the people making them don't have the means to mass-produce them.

There's also Atariage for the more popular ones.

What I want to know is why I'm not the guy programming the game. ;) (Yes, I can program the Atari 2600.)

Post subject:  I did!

A while back I made a page about the Atari game. Someone deleted it because it wasn't actually on homstarrunner.com. And, as others have mentioned, I suppose it would turn into a lot of speculative comments.

As far as I know, it's still in the works. You can download the demo, though!
