Surely you mean "Minimum age", so kids won't see the word "crap" on the screen, say it aloud to their parents, and get the polyester pants sued off us due to public outcry. If, though, you mean "default" as in "Age in which the slider on the profile is set", then I would first say that that is a silly thing to ask about, and secondly, I would say that the average age here is about...ooh... 17/19.
Then again, there is a STRETCH of a chance that you mean default age as in "time spent on the Wiki", which would be good, if it was meant exculsively for Wiki posters like myself, but ten years makes it seem like a ruling-out.
Do you mean "time you intend to be on the forum"? If so, that means that you obviously have a lot of insight as to how long H*R will last, and although I respect your view on the staying power of H*R, isn't that a wee bit too much planning ahead?

Is it one of the above? Or is it something else? My money's on the first suggestion, but could you please shed a little more light on the subject?

Ladies and gentlemen, the reason I posted this poll.

Well I keep seing 13s on board terms and conditions as the minimum age to join. those 3s should be replaced with 0s. (saying 10 in place of 13.)
Does that explain everything? ;)

No, that should not be changed, because it's in accordance with the Internet Child Protection Act. Basically, it makes websites that have more mature content, or websites that require you to register, require you to either be 13 and over, or have your parent's permission. It's not going to be changed.

Um, COPPA is pretty clear on this. Thirteen and over. Period.

If you want to express you opinions on changing the law... write your congressmen and women.

And if you are under thirteen and are using the forum without your parent's permission... that's bad. For all of us.

Nelson, I would love to change the minimum age on the wiki forum to something lower, but unfortunately there are laws in place against that. 10 is certainly not too young to be using our site, but 10 is too young (at least without parents' permission) to be posting personal information on the Internet, which anyone can do on this site in the Profile area.

The laws are there for kids' protection, so that their mom knows what kind of personal information we are allowing them to post, where it is stored, and who can access it.
