Heh. Seems like the general consensus to my remark was either "I'M GONNA STAB YOU IN THE FACE WITH LASERS" or "Hmm, yeah, I guess so." ;)

I think the reason that I believe ADD and ADHD don't exist is because I went through elementary and middle school consciously aware that I didn't have any such disorder, but at the slightest mention of either of them, about every single person around me would proudly declare that they had it. It didn't seem very plausible to me. Meh.

I have the medical documentation to support it, so I am not just blowing smoke on this one.

I guess it's okay to be on medication for whatever disorder you have (I am), but it shouldn't be your excuse for everything. Of course, I live in the South, so for most parents Ritalin=(CENSOR'D!) whuppin'.

Another point I'll toss on the floor (just because I can apparently get people on my side about this): how exactly can one be medically proven to have ADD or ADHD? From what I've heard, it involves taking a test on the computer. Honestly, if I wanted to be "proven" to have a disorder, and thus get special treatment and not be punished as hard for bad grades, then couldn't I just fail the test on purpose? It just doesn't seem to fit together.

Yous guys have already said that the medication really doesn't do much -- which makes it seem to me that it doesn't actually do anything, and in a sense is all in your head. Case in point, ADD or ADHD doesn't exist unless you want it to.

Bah. The argument makes sense to me.

It makes sense to me as well.

Which is strange, because I don't want it to make sense. But I can actually see it all being in someone's head- that's how OCD is.

ADD isn't just inhibiting towards schoolwork. It can make everything very hard if you can't focus your attention.

Yeah, all I know is that even though I'm long out of school, I'm finding it incredibly hard to focus right now on just about anything, and I can't think of ANY motivation to be lazy on purpose, especially when my conscience keeps constantly screaming at me to apply myself more.

But that theory on ADD and OCD does make sense. And it is all in your head... that's kind of the root of the problem, much like anxiety disorders, phobias, and any mental illnesses. :p

I think ADD exists the same way other regular personality traits do, like laziness. They are very real but they can be overcome.

There's a certain allele mutation linked to ADD/ADHD.

They just search for the allele on your genes.

But that would cost way too much money to conduct just to find if you have ADD or not.

Everyone has some kind of ADD I guess.
I'm saying that everyone who says they don't have ADD is weird.

I'm not sure I do.

But I do have common spak attacks, and probably don't pay enough attention in Maths, so I just don't know.

Teff: CAT scans can help. Take a look.

I don't have AD/HD, but I'm apparantly pretty messed up. I've got paranoia, schizoid tendencies, and I'm more antisocial than a hermit. I don't believe much of it: the school psychiatrist I saw gave everyone disorders. Like candy.

Heh heh.

"Trick or treat!"

"Here's cerebral palsy for you, bipolar personality for you, and autism for you!"

:p

I don't have ADD or ADHD, but as some people in this thread have said, I think it's a bit overrated.

I'm convinced it's not real. Today, I was at the doctor, and all over the office was clipboards, pens, and pamphlets advertising ADHD medications. I was afraid I would be prescribed it.

I had behavioural problems when I was eight, and my mum took me to see some lady who said I had ADD or ADHD... can't remember which. But I don't. Apparently.
