What is your default Web browser? Or, should I say, what is the browser you use most of the time (some people are too lazy to change their default browser)?

Personally, I use Mozilla Firefox.

Mine isn't listed. I'm on Compuserve. I think it's an adaptation of Netscape.

I'm on Mozilla. I'm not using Firefox until it comes out of beta.

I enjoy Firefox, but my hard drive was formatted recently, and now my computer freaks out if I try to download something. I have McAffee installed after the formatting, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Well, it should already be obvious to most people here that I use Firefox. I also use Mozilla Thunderbird for my mail client. I love the junk mail filter! I've been very impressed with some of the things the Mozilla foundation has been able to accomplish. Firefox and Thunderbird far surpass Microsoft's browser and mail client, and they're still in beta!

Has anyone tried the new Opera beta? It's a lot less cluttered (something I have always disliked about Opera) and it seems to be more user-friendly. It doesn't handle XHTML and CSS quite right in some situations, and, of course, it's not free, so I probably won't start using it anytime soon, but it's looking like they've made a lot of improvements. I wonder if they are motivated to do that because Firefox is getting more popular?

I don't have the beta, but I have 7.21. I like its speed, but the fact that I have to pay $39.99 to remove the banner/text ads is ridiculous. If it were like $9.99 or $14.99 I would probably pay.

I like Firefox because I can also block most web advertisements.

Even if it is only version 0.8 it still beats the tar out of internet exploder. I haven't had a problem with spyware/adware since I installed it. I never see pop-ups. Tabbed browsing is sooo coulll. And it's free.

1) It's stable
2) It's free
3) It's secure
4) You can block most web advertisements

And, like JoeyDay said, click the link in his sig.

BTW, here's a page listing some reasons to switch to Mozilla Firefox.

Do you mean Mandrakelinux 10? 'Cause the latest version of the Linux kernel is 2.6.

The tragedy is that most people still don't know that there's an option other than Internet Explorer. IE is fast and pre-installed, but that's where its advantages end. On most computers, Firefox is still faster, stabler, more secure, and, unlike the current IE breed, still in active development (that's right, kids -- you're not going to see a new IE release until 2006 at the earliest -- it's basically dead until Longhorn). Switch to Firefox today. Oh, and I haven't tried Mozilla lately, so it may be the cat's pajamas and all, but Firefox 0.8 only crashes on me once every two weeks or so, compared to IE's twice a day. I don't know why the "beta" tag makes Mozilla users so nervous (nor do I know how often Mozilla crashes, but I've heard that Firefox is stabler) -- this is the product that's going to be replacing Mozilla soon, remember.

Anyway...

I don't get this. I mean, some ads are vile, particularly pop-ups and pop-unders. And those ones that show on top of the text until you kill them. And interstitials (the ones that make you look at a full-page ad before you get to go to the page you wanted to see). Okay, so there are a lot of sorts of ads that never should have been created in the first place. But why block banners ads? They don't make browsing more difficult (unless you have a really slow conneciton), and they keep the web free.

The more people who block banner ads (and, sadly, all other kinds of ads), the faster the free web will disappear, and the more sites will move to subscription models with little to no free content. Really, these people are just trying to make a little money in return for their hard work. Scamming them out of their money with clever browser tricks doesn't do anybody any good, not in the short run and not in the long.

Personally, if I'm at a site with content that I find particularly useful or interesting, I'll take 30 seconds out of my day to click on their banner ads and text ads, in the hopes that it'll keep their content free and easily accessible that much longer.

Most people get annoyed by banner ads. I don't unless they're flashy ones.

It's the Flash ads I hate. They're so annoying. Especially the ones that fly across the web page.

And when I'm in Netscape, all the ads show back up. Sometimes I'm so bored I'll click them.;)

Pop-up ads aren't that bad... unless four or five pop up on every single page, as it is on pwtorch.com when I access it from school. Seriously interferes with my viewing pleasure

Plus I hate getting - "do you want to download 'spywarecrap.exe'" Windows messages. I don't know what you call those.

I use Mozilla Firefox and I haven't looked back. I took a while for it to play Flash animations and stuff at IE speed, but now it runs just fine. Tabbed browsing is truly awesome.

Anything CompuServe or AOL is an adaptation of Netscape.

I think Mozilla is a Netscape clone or something or designers weren't being elaborate.

Personally, I use IE, mainly because I USED to have every popular browser installed, but I reformatted my hard drive and have not reinstalled them.
However, I can safely say:
1. Firefox is awesome with Google built in. And tabbing webpages is awesome

2. Mozilla's okay, but is too much like Netscape

3. Netscape has too many dumb features and installs the annoying little Netscape ISP icon on your desktop.

4.I like OperaMail built in to Opera, but not the stupid ad.

I truly no for a fact that AOL use Netscape-based technology, because AOL and CompuServe and AIM are incorporated into the Netscape Network, NOT MSN.

Hey! I deleted that post! :P ('Cause it turned out that what I said about Mozilla was wrong. Sort of. Netscape does come from Mozilla but Mozilla also comes from Netscape. Turns out that internally the Netscape browser had been called Mozilla the whole time.)

I use the AOL service and it definitely uses MSIE for its web browser.

I stand corrected, however I think you can use any browser with AOL.

I use Firefox.

TAKE BACK THE WEB!

Oh, and Kupo, you can't use Safari except on a Mac.

I occasionally use IE for idiotic pages which use VBscript or something.
