It's the keyboardist, they provide all the cool synthesizer stuff to make the music sound awesome.

rhythem guitar, because they usually have the back seat during the song, but can crank out a totally awsome guitar solo.

It's always been my joke if someone's playing air-guitar to start playing my air-triangle.

I vote brass. Completely unbiased, I just like the sound. Ok, I lied. I'm learning Trombone and Trumpet, I already play Flute, and I hope to get and Alto Sax in the future. And I just now realized that I capitalized all the instrument names, and I'm too lazy to go back and fix it.

Hey, I know I'm bumping here, but I found this old thread through some random topic choosey thing (check out the rarely-used Suggestions forum to see it) and I like it.

I vote accordion. Why? Because accordion is awesome. Today's music needs more accordion. Unless you're in Mexico. I think they need a bit LESS accordion. XD

However, today's music also needs more brass section. If you don't love the brass section, you're a COMMIE.

I gotta say drums. It's like hitting a cylinder with a piece of paper on top. You can't beat that.

No...

Paper makes a really lousy drumhead. Once you get the tension that you need to get the drum to make sound, the paper breaks easily. And paper doesn't vibrate much.

If you really look at it, the "background" parts of a band (i.e. drums, bass) is what is actually making you dance and feel the beat. if you took those out of a band, it would sound really empty and the whole off-beat sound that makes you move would be gone.
Therefore, you can have a band without lead guitar, and without a singer, and without a pianist, but every good band should have a drummer and bass(or some kind of rhythmic backing) to be able to rock out to it.

White Stripes

Their best(read: most popular) song is 'Seven Nation Army', which Jack White tuned his guitar down an octave to play as a bass, which he then played over the top with a guitar. That 'bass' line is what makes the song.

Yay! Keyboardists FTW!
Although, that's completely false. Unless we're talking 70's progressive rock, then it's certainly true.

Anyway, if you see my site you can tell what my primary instrument is...!

<----bias'd bass player

When I start'd playing bass, my ears suck'd butt, so I struggled a lot with hearing the bass in almost all songs. It wasn't until recently (about five years after I start'd playing) that I could hear the bass in most music. Since I found out how to listen for it, I've been even more in love with it.

When I couldn't hear the bass, I was all for the vocals. Not the case anymore. Sure, if the song has some kind of incredible affect on me because of the message the artist is trying to get across (like Find My Way, or Set Your Eyes to Zion by P.O.D.), I'll listen to the singing, but it's not for the way it sounds.

So far as slower music goes, I'm a big fan of lead guitar. It has to be totally instrumental, and focus'd on beauty for me to like guitar best, but when it is, I absolutely love it. A couple examples are Cain, and Eternal by P.O.D. (yeah...I like 'em a LOT...).

I voted bass over guitar just because it's so rare to find really beautiful music for me. I'll probably only find a song like that once a year. If it were just as common as awesome bass is in more rowdy music, I wouldn't be able to choose. But it's not, so bass it is! :)

This is a tough decision. When Family Force 5 played in Montgomery, I say either the singer, keyboard, or guitar. When tobyMac played, singer for sure. Shon Lock a little, he was break dancing WHILE singing. That's intense. Mostly tobyMac, because he rocks. (See: youtube.com "Extreme Days")

Either Keyboard or Percussion. I could listen to those two instruments all day and never get bored.

hm, in my opinion, it depends on the band.

In Yes, the rockinest is the keyboard, and that's their style.

With Zeppelin, it's always drums. With Queen, it's either vocals or guitar solos.
