What is the difference between nerds and geeks? I've usually held dear that Nerds and Geeks are one and the same. So.... VOTE AWAY BROTHAHS... or sisters... whatever... |

Geeks are extremely knowledgable about one specific subject, such as computers or Star Trek or movies. Nerds are extremely knowledgable about everything. So Nerds are v.2 of Geeks. Harr. |

Nice to know someone will speak up. Though the word nerd has been around since like the 30's or 40's. It was used to describe people who wouldn't drink. Back then it was spelled knurd (backwards of drunk). Just thought I would throw a piece of info out there. At least that's what I heard. |

Isn't "knurd" from the Discworld books? |

Different. Geeks are more into video games, sci-fi, RPG stuff, comic books etc. Nerds love math and science and study them obsessively. |

Nerds are intelligent and antisocial, Geeks are just antisocial, therefore v1. Geek v2. Nerd |

Geeks aren't smart but have had the same obsessions since 3rd grade, and are more specialized in a certain area. Nerds keep up-to-date, while still respecting their roots. Nerds are smart but may not really get anything done. |

Nerds - Specifically knowledgeable/obsessive over grades and the like. Geeks - Obsessive. These can branch off into different sub-categories, like fanboy/girl, otaku, ect. Research is still being conducted. Results will be posted accordingly. |

I see it the other way around. Nerds are just version 1 of geeks. Nerds may be smart, but because geeks obsess about stuff, they gather more knowledge. Rawr. |

I see nerds as academic, intelligent people who are overly zealous about schoolwork and learning. I see geeks as people who are also probably intelligent, but squander their intelligence through mediums such as the internet and videogames (something I'm very much guilty of). That's just my two cents, though. |

Ditto with white meat. As far as I'm concerned, nerds=math, geeks=computers. |

I figure they're interchangable...excuse my ignorance but uh no one's really going to be analyzing that in everyday conversation, at least that's what I think

I'm pretty sure that nerds are losers that are smart. Geeks are just losers. And sorry for the videogame people out there. I don't want to offend anyone. I know a lot of cool people/videogamers out there. |

No, I'd consider a "dork" to be someone who's just an all-around looser. After all, if someone does something really socially inept, you don't say it was "geeky" or "nerdy," you say it was "dorky." So my $.02. |
