Post subject:  Mel Brooks or Monty Python?

Just as the title says--between the two, who reigns supreme king of comedy? It's a really hard pick for me, but I think I'd have to go with Mel Brooks, for two main reasons: I've seen more of his stuff, and he got people to laugh at Hitler.

I'll have to go with Monty Python. True, I've seen about three of Mel Brooks's films, and they were all excellent. However, if anyone ever manages to beat Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the universe will explode. This is an indisputable fact. Well, maybe not. But still...

Fix'd! :trogdor:

I have Monty Python and the Holy Grail here, and it's wonderfully hilarious...it's genius...it's delightful...it's only a model...but I still have to say that stuff like The Producers ("Springtime for Hitler!"), History of the World Part 1 ("See Hitler on ice!"), and Spaceballs (getting to hear Rick Moranis say the F word is the icing on the cake with that movie) just pwn so much more.

Hmmm.... I have all of Python's movies, but I only have (and have only seen) Spaceballs and Young Frankenstein for the Brooks side. I'd say they're equal from what I know.

Seen the show? Monty Python's flying Circus. 'Twas hilarious.

Eh.....umm.....ERRRAAAHHHHHH! I CAN'T DECIDE!!!!!

They are both awesome beyond compare. The Flying Circus and Holy Grail are awesome, but so are Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein.

Mel Brooks. I've seen History of the World, Silent Movie, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs, and Dracula: Dead and Loving It, and I must say that he makes a lot of good, hilarious characters. The only exception is The Producers. I keep trying to watch the original movie, but I just can't get through it. Maybe this weekend, I'll try to watch the movie entirely. Or see the remake, but I don't really want to watch it unless it's worth an hour and a half of my time. I know it will be.

Meanwhile, I've yet to see any Monty Python films. I might also see Life of Brian when I have time, so depending on how that movie goes...

Hmm.......I guess......Mel Brooks. I mean, I have nothing against Monty Python. They're in a league of their own when it comes to comedy. But Mel Brooks and his masterpieces, such as Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, SpaceBalls, History of the World : Part I Robin Hood : Men in Tights, they are some of the best written comedy movies. Each scene can make you laugh until you bleed. They are that good.

By the way, all those movies that I mentioned are the ones that I've seen. I know there's more out there that I need to watch.

I like all of each each of their stuff. I really have never seen a "bad" thing from them. (But I have been a Monty Python fan longer.)

Most Mel Brooks things are kinda smart, and cool ideas, but I've never really found them too funny.
Spaceballs was probably his best work, but even that seemed a bit stretched out. And I didn't hardly even giggle in The Producers.
But Monty Python is just so great and original and fast and fun, it totally reinvented comedy, there is no comparing it to anything.

I can't decide between the two. I absolutely loved History of the World and Blazing Saddles, but Holy Grail and Flying circus are great to. It's just impossible to say which is better to me.
