Simple question: That fizzy stuff with sugar in it that you can drink. What is it called?

I've always called it soda. Just soda. I'm pretty sure that's the norm for my region. So how about you?

Soda. But I don't drink soft drink much, or ever, so I'm not a real aficionado with soft drinks, but yanno.

Everything is a Coke, and I don't like Coca-Cola Pepsi FTW. I think it's a southern American thing.

Yeah, I know it is too. But who's here that can lock/merge this?

Anyways, for me, it's soda. Oddly enough though, the western part of NY all calls it pop.

I have and always will use "Pop". "Pop" has always been the term I've used, I really can't imagine using anything else... Wacky... But I'm actually surprised that the majority of you use "Soda". I guess "Pop" is a phrase we are more accustomed to in Canada.

I know this has been posted before because I posted this link before.

Heh, I just notice that near the bottom it says randomly:

Funny, the North says Pop, but the south says Coke.

I'm from an area where they say Pop, but I've always said soda, because that's the actual term, written on the can/bottle. Pop makes me think of, like, a dad.

I'll just usually call it by the product name.

Soda all the way, but I say pop when I'm bored. Don't drink much of the stuff anyway.

Usually I say pop. Except when it's orange/grape/<insert other fruit here>.
Then I call it soda. "Orange Soda" just sounds better than "orange pop" for some reason.

I say "Lemonade", for stuff like Sprite. Unless it has no lemons in it. Lots of people here do.

I call cola by what its name is. Coke, Pepsi, whatever.

Soda here. Most of the northeast seems to call it that.

So you're my pop-saying counterpart?

I say pop unless I'm trying to be specific...

Well, I searched it and found nothing. Well, if anyone with appropriate powers wants to merge/lock this, I've no qualms.

Not all of the North. Most of New York says either soda, Coke or Pepsi.

Actually, Pop is very popular here in Western NY, as stated in my previous post.

Actually I was responding to your statement that said

I was just stating that it wan not entirely true. They may say soda in Syracuse, but not in other places life Buffalo or Rochester. And oddly enough, I've seen the word "cola" appearing more and more around here too...

I actually used that map for research once. Writing research. I had a bunch of characters coming from various parts of the country, which I was not explicitly experienced with, and being teenagers, they drink lots of soft drinks. So I used the map to determine what they'd say. XD

I say soda as part of my defiance of southern speach and slang. Just becuase I was raised in Alabama doesn't mean I should sound like it.
