Jumping the Shark is a defining moment when you know that your favorite television program has reached its peak and from that moment on, it's all downhill until it's cancelled or abruptly ended.

What would be the worst way for your favorite show to jump the shark?

When they make an episode "looking back" at older episodes.
Or an episode composed almost entirely of old clips.

I just can't imagine how a House musical would work, but I'm willing to bet it would make the show jump the shark.

Recap episode. When you reach that point, it's a good indicator that they are running short on good story lines.

Simpsons did a clip show before they jumped the shark (or maybe they still haven't? I dunno), so that one doesn't work for me.

Well, that was kinda poking fun of recap shows.

No, they just had to do them because Fox said so. In early ones they tried to "fool" you into thinking that you were going to see a new episode, but eventually they did poke fun at clip shows while they did them (i.e. The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular).

I think a new character joining the cast is almost always the worst possible way for a show to jump the shark.

Just to make things straight:

If your favorite show is House or Venture Bros, then don't even bother voting.

Because it is impossible for either to jump the shark. A musical done by the House creators would be done with such finesse and class that it would possibly be the best show yet.

Usually if I like a show it's doomed to cancilation. The only shows I've tired of are Law & Order/Simpsons for doing-it-to-death, & the only show I think might fir the shark-jumping gig is Xena...but maybe that's because they just changed the direction it was going in.

I thing television in general has jumped the shark. I stopped watching when reality shows took over for sitcoms.
