I'm not talking about your favorite instrument, or what instrument you play, I'm saying what instrument sounds best, by itself, going crazy.

Thread over due to misspelling of "bass".

I'm going to say guitar. Some of my favorite songs involve awesome guitar solos or just guitar (no vocals) throughout the entire song.

Personally Guitar, though a Piano can produce wonderfully by itself.

"Wolf in the Bend" by Joy Electric. Best synth solo ever.

And I fixed the spelling of "bass".

Nothing beats the versatility of a keyboard.

Yea verily; if you can play the piano, you can play the organ, synth, clavichord, harpsichord, harmonium, melodeon, and Mellotron.

What Beyond the Grave said.

I think the guitar gets this one, hands down. I mean, come on guys. You just can't have an ear-blasting rock concert without a face-melting guitar solo. You just can't. It needs to be in there somewhere, by itself or in a song. Just listen to Eruption by Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix when he was at Woodstock. Guitar Gods like those literally melt faces. It's science.

Drum's do get second on this one though, I won't argue that.

Keyboard, but that might be biased due to the fact that I play this more well than any other instrument on this list.

I voted Bass, even though the instrument I play the best is the guitar.

I can't play any instruments very well except for the recorder and Guitar Hero guitar. So it's a toss up between novelty recorder solos (Jingle Bells is INTENSE) or Guitar Hero fake guitar solos (oh man oh man oh man that yellow button is HRAD!!11)

Teenage Wasteland has a great keyboard solo, even though that's pretty obvious.

That's not a solo; it's a riff. And the song's called "Baba O'Riley". [/music nerd]

The violin solo is pretty awesome, though. Won't argue with that.

And I never liked the title "Baba O'Reily", I always preffered "Teenage Wasteland".

EDIT: Oh, just looked at Wikipedia, never knew that a riff was a repeated chord.

Peter Townsend is angered by this remark.

Yeah, I used to think it was just a synonym for "solo". I know, I know, I'm stupid. I don't actually play music, I just listen.

Guitar solo.

This isn't bias, since I play piano and not guitar. Guitar's not my favorite instrument, and others may be more versatile, but when it comes to solos, guitars win. I mean, come on. The distortion, the bending of pitches, the just plain RAWWWWRARARRAR REERRRRHRHHRHRHRH RAWRRRRWAWAARARARARARR of it, all add up to insane levels of awesome.

Brass is a close second. Gotta love that trumpet solo; gotta love that trombone solo; [s]gotta love that tuba solo[/s].

Brass, when that trumpet goes wild, the guy who plays it must be having a really, really REALLY bad headache
