If an object is built in the future, and an object is built sooner in the future, which one is YOUNGER, the one in the farther future or the one in the nearer future?
Keep in mind that you are answering this from the perspective of the present.

Well, Object X could be -1 year old, but the one farther in the future would be, for example, -2 years old, rendering the second one younger.

A few people seem confused, so heres a graph to help you out.

Which would be YOUNGER from our present perspective: object 1 (the nearer), or object 2 (the farther)?
Yeah on the graph change "Which is older" to "Which is younger?"

Object 1 because it will be made first.

see, there are two ways of thinking about this:

1. Since the farther object has a later "birthday", it is youngest.

2. The closer object is younger because it is closest to us (absolute age if the present is zero, etc.)

I said the farther one is younger.

Neither one is older because neither one has even happened from our perspective.

If you were to ask which one is younger (Which one will happen the farthest time away) then the second one would be.

Well, if you mean the objects' age as they were built, they would be the same, but if you mean in general, the far future object.

The second object, obviously. I can understand why one might say they're both the same (because neither exist yet), but if you have to choose one, I see no logical argument for the first.

Neither exists yet, so neither one can be described as younger or older. Even when only the first object has been created, there's no way to compare its age to something that doesn't exist.

Only when they've BOTH come into existence can a meaningful comparison be made between them.

Wait a second we're talking about the same object here right

So like if you went 20 years into the future and saw an object that had been created (or you created something), then went 10 years back and created it yourself again

The one you made in the far future is YOUNGER because the one you make in the near future will already be 10 years old when the second one comes into existence.

No, it's like you're asking from the year 2008, who is younger, a person born in 2011 or one born in 2020?

Neither, because neither exist yet.

I'd like to thank Back to the Future and my obsession over time travel for allowing me to even grasp this question.

Aha, oh, time travel.
HHFOV answered my question best.
Think of time travel: speaking hypothetically, you have an object from 2011 and an object from 2020. If two people came back to today's date in 2008, carrying these two different objects, which object is younger: the one from 2011, or the one from 2020?

I thought this poll was about the song. Or rather hoped. But whatever.

But I say Object 1.

EDIT: Oh, Ninti beat me to it.

If the creation time of an object is later than the creation time of a second object, then the first object is younger.

We are talking about a relative age difference, relative differences do not depend on the zero point of the scale (ie. the present).

I would compare this to the relative differences in celcius and kelvin temperature scales but I'm sure that would only confuse people.

Wait did you change from the question from "which is older" because I read it as which is older.

I believe in negative ages. The second one is younger.

none of this matters, because now i'm going to punch a butterfly in the face and prevent both objects from being created.

It's a nonsensical question. Neither of them have age because they don't exist yet.

But if you're a computer, then the far future object is younger. Computers aren't really equipped to handle nonsensical questions.
