Very yes.

But I prefer limewire.

I used to use Limewire, but then I decided to give iTunes a shot, and stuck with it for awhile. After figuring how much of a pain DRM-protected music is, I gave up on it and tried out torrenting music for a few weeks. I discovered Amazon MP3 shortly after that, and I've fallen in love with it. It feels like I actually own the music that I'm purchasing.

Limewire always ran slow for me.
And I like being able to download entire albums.

EDIT:
Yeah, iTunes is turrible.

EDIT2:
How does Amazon MP3 work? I might try it out.

Well, you look up the music via an Amazon MP3 search, then you are provided with the nearest results. You can either download individual songs or entire albums, but you have to have done two things beforehand:
  1. Installed the free Amazon MP3 Downloader program.
  2. Gotten an account at Amazon.com

Most songs are either 89 cents or 99 cents, and albums are usually considerably lower in price than downloading each individual song. From what I can tell, all of the music is DRM-free, though many of the tracks appear to be pretty large in filesize when compared to other sources like iTunes (most of the four-minute songs I have via Amazon.com are probably 8-10 KB in size).

I pirate everything you can think of. I'm an internet kleptomaniac, and it's all thanks to Cornell's WONDERFUL file-sharing system, DC++. Seriously, those of you at college, set one of these hubs up at your school. On our hub, there's like 40 terabytes of shared files. They have pretty much every episode of every TV show within a half-hour of its airing, every new movie, every new video game for any system, any piece of music you can think of, just about any book in PDF format, comics, anything at all, all tolerated by the university and with a download speed of 10 mbps.

The only problem is you can only access it while on Cornell's campus, so I'm going through SEVERE withdrawal right now. I'm going to actually have to start spending money on things soon!

Occasionally. I download old games more than I download music, but if I've heard a band is good and I haven't heard any of their stuff, I download a song or two to see if I like them before I buy a CD.

I only pirate when I can't find what I'm looking for on iTunes, or when I don't have any iTunes credit. And Jitka, that thing's awesome, except the RIAA is serving a bunch of students at my college with subpoenas for using school compys and bandwidth to pirate music. So kids: If you're going to pirate stuff, don't use a school network. Drain the bandwidth at your local café. :p

When I here about a new band or someone tells me to check them out, I'll go thug their two most popular songs off of their MySpace. If I like, I'll head to the Zune Marketplace and see what I can find, if they're not there, then I ask other people for them. Usually the person that told me to check them out. I don't really buy CD's anymore.

I'm not a big fan of file-sharing anymore. I used to do it all the time. I think the record companies are right there, mass-file sharing isn't completely fair. If my friend has a song and wants to share it though, I see nothing wrong with that, the mass-file sharing is taking it to far is what I've come to the conclusion of.

Modesty in all things. =)

But the beautiful thing is, it's not even connected to the outside internet at all. All the sharing is done between Cornell students who share the files they already have on their own computers, and it's all done only on Cornell's own net. There's no outside connection at all, so the university tolerates it because if they shut down the hub, people would still pirate things, but they'd pirate them from outside sources like Bit Torrent or Limewire that the RIAA or whoever can detect. Then the school and the students would get sued. The only taboo is that you can't share Cornell exclusive events, like comedy shows or the time Stephen Colbert came. If you record a Cornell event and share it you get banned from the hub.

I love it so much. I got my copy of Office from on there, I got about twelve PC games and saved around $400 on that, I have about 60 GB each of movies, TV shows and anime, around 25 GB of music, tons of games, I downloaded Flash just for the hell of it once but didn't keep it, all kinds of other stuff, etc etc.

So the bottom line is, the university won't shut the hub down, because if they did, overall it would cost the university money eventually. Which is just fine by me.

I know where I'm going to school!

That is awesome. Any chance you can get me seasons 4 and 5 of Lost? Seeing as its going to be years before they release them on DVD. Arrgh!

If I can't get it, I will find a way.
But if I can get it, I will buy it.

I'd be able to do it if I were still on Cornell's campus. That's the only trouble with DC++, you have to actually be at the school to use the system. They definitely have them on the hub, though. That's how I got Dexter last season. Within a half-hour of each episode's airing, someone on the hub would have it shared.

Suh-weet! So when do you head back to Cornell's? ;)

Late August.

You know, anyone can use the hub, all you need to do is find a Wi-Fi hot spot on campus somewhere and connect to the hub on Cornell's network. That is, if you feel like going to Ithaca, New York. Also, wireless is kinda slow, too.

Alot of my music is from OCRemix, so it's free already. But, if I go see a movie\play a game and I dig the soundtrack, I torrent it. If I'm looking for individual tracks, I use Ares.

If I hear a soundtrack that I think might be interesting, I check out a couple of tracks. If I have an Amazon giftcard or something then I'll definitely get it from there. If it's a soundtrack that I know I probably won't be listening to too much, but just want to download it to see what it's like, then I'll download it.

So, sometimes. I try not to when it's a major game or film soundtrack.

Klepto and proud of it.

My only regret is that I spent all that money getting Invader ZIM from iTunes when I could've gotten it twice as easily for free from the good people of DC++.

For me, it's all about convenience. If I can get something easily and for free, there's no reason to do otherwise. Of course, if I particularly like a band, like TMBG or the Flaming Lips or something, I'll buy one or two albums. But as a rule, I don't buy music or software anymore.

I don't pirate, but I've considered it. That way I can get the songs I want from more popular bands out there without worrying about putting them in some kind of jeopardy, but for the little known bands like--you guessed it--Project 86, I would defeinitely pay some money in support.

If I want a video game soundtrack, I know dang well how to get it. But I'll only get it if I know they're not making money by selling a soundtrack. Thankfully, that doesn't get in my way a lot.

However, I'm trying to find a way to watch old (and sometimes new) cartoons. We just got digital cable...and quite frankly, the selection of On Demand SUCKS.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to see the old Pokemon episodes again...guess I actually have to buy that boxed DVD set...
