The only reason Star Fox comes out on top is because they have some otherworldly unseen force with superior intelligence guiding Fox. Taking that out of consideration, Star Wolf has the better ships/pilots.

(Ugh, I hope I never have to dig through that awful site ever again just to find one picture.)

I don't mind his design, besides the whole triangular face thing. Personally I think the Assault (or Adventures for the applicable characters) designs were the best.

EDIT: The below post... That's not even an appropriate pun! "Wolf" sounds nothing like "walk." Worst image ever.
