Me and my dad have been going at this for a while now, and I'm curious to see what other people think.

Whoever says the Stones are better is asking for trouble! The Beatles are #1!

The Stones are better - and us Stones-fans are born ready for trouble. Bring it ooooonnnNNN!

Having said that, the Beatles are better as people. Mick and Keith just..... aren't.

George Harrison trumps the Rolling Stones as well as all other members of the Beatles. Yep. What with all that innerpeace and awesometude.

As Douglas Adams once said, (loosely quothed): "I was a Beatles fan as a child. This meant I had to fight the Rolling Stones fans, which was hard because they fought dirty and their knuckles were closer to the ground." ;) This animosity is completely the fault of the fans y'know. Them bands were friends. The Beatles hooked up the Stones with their first agent or manager or record deal or something to that effect.

Stones. Hands down.

The Beatles weren't bad, or anything like that (why is it that when you refuse to acknowledge that the Beatles are the best band ever that Beatles fans take that as you saying "THE BEATLES SUCK!!"?)

The Beatles are on my best bands of all time list, but they're behind Led Zeppelin, and The Stones.. There may be other bands in front of them, too, sometimes Aerosmith, The Jimi Hendrix experience, or others get bumped up.

Either way, I like Led Zep better than the Stones, and the Stones better than the Beatles.

Bring that trouble.

Heck, I like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and the Traveling Wilburys better than the Beatles. ;) But, you know, that's 'cause Tom Petty is so hot. Mmm, olda boys. As for the Wilburys - well, Nelson, Charlie, Lefty, Otis and Lucky are just the best people ever, pretty much.

Anyway, the main problem is, people have preconcieved notions of who these bands are. I mean, they at least know the Rolling Stones were rebellious hard rockers (and still are, apparently), but the only Beatles songs they've heard of were the early perky rhymey luv songs, or probably Yesterday. They've never heard Helter Skelter, or Within In You Without You, or...well, so forth. The point is, yay Beatles. *waves tiny flag*

Oh yes. And every member of the Beatles was important*. No personnel changes here! :P

*Please no Ringo jokes. Ringo is nice. Let's make fun of Paul. I'd like to trade him in for George, personally.

The Beatles, d00d! The Stones may still be around, but The Beatles' music will last FOREVER! You can probably name more "deeper cuts" from Beatles albums than you can name Stones hits.

And George Harrison will always have a special place in my heart; he died on my 13th birthday.

OK, deal, as long as nobody makes fun of John. Those people are just asking for trouble. And anyway, without Ringo, not only would we not have Octopus's Garden, an....... um, OK song, but the entire movie "HELP!" probably wouldn't have existed (it focusses around Ringo). And yeah, all of your previous post had a point (it just would be unneccesary to quote it all). Especially that bit about, let's see...... *goes back and looks* "the early perky rhymey luv songs". Those were, of course, the worst Beatles songs. They later went completely insane and wrote songs utterly different (but not better), like Blue Jay Way (ugh, so creepy) and Revolution 9 (just don't even ask). But seriously, the best songs are somewhere in the middle of those extremes.

Regarding TOASTPAINT!, I have never heard the Rolling Stones, so I shouldn't know, but since Douglas Adams liked the Beatles, that gives them a big advantage. But still, They Might Be Giants PWNs all other bands. There. I said it.

Well, I'm-a have to start sampling a bit of TMBG someday. I've heard three of their songs, not counting some theme song for a TV show that I don't watch. Douglas Adams likes Bach and Mark Knopfler, too...I have a couple of Knopfler's CDs (and a CD by the band he was in, Dire Straits), mainly because of Douglas (well, moreso my art teacher, but anyway...). Oh, and Revolution 9? That was all JohnandYoko, of course. ;) And, yes, Blue Jay Way is creepy. Exactly. Bwahaha.

And come on! You have to have heard at least a little Rolling Stones, sometime in your life! Like...um..."Paint it Black" or, um... "Start Me Up" (man, I don't like that song), or, um... wait, "As Tears Go By" isn't by the Stones is it? Well, it's somehow affiliated with them. I know a little, but mostly too trivial to relate.
Okay, it took me like three minutes to come up with those songs, but it's only because I have all the Beatles albums between Rubber Soul and Abbey Road (or Let It Be - but Abbey Road) as well as 1, Anthology Vol. 1, and the newer version of the Yellow Submarine soundtrack. And no Stones CDs. So I blame DJs, because they never tell you the names/artists of the songs they're playing. Yeah.

And just because I feel like it: BRIAN EPSTEIN! ...meh.

I should probably clear something up here. I think the Stones are a very good band, but I just think the Beatles are that much better. I've never heard a Beatles song I don't like (but I have heard Stones songs I don't like). I even like Revolution 9. Don't ask me why I like that song. I'm not even sure myself.

I have not yet heard Blue Jay Way.

The Beatles for me, on the strength of their best albums and for the eight hundred million reasons people have already discussed to death, but I absolutely love both bands dearly, so this poll totally isn't fair. Even some of the Stones' more "throwaway" songs and albums like Black And Blue and Satanic Majesties are fantastic, to say nothing of their obvious classics! Although I'd put R.E.M. over both bands on a "personal favorite" level.

I don't claim to speak for EGG, but I think that he's saying this:
"In choosing one, you're saying you love one more than the other. What if you love both equally?"

Oh... I see. Oh well. Too late now. I can't change the poll options (or at least I don't know how to).

Anyways, The Beatles are currently winning by a landslide.

Very true! On the cover of the Beatles album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the striped doll on the bottom right has labeled on it "Welcome Good Guys The Rolling Stones."

They also teamed up do the song "Drift Away."

For me it really depends on what mood Im in. Like, if I were all pumped up or angry or something then the Stones would probably be my choice. But, if Im tired or feeling lazy then I'll put on Sgt.Peppers and fall asleep on the floor.

But because they're more consistent in writing good songs I picked the beatles.

It's really hard to say, isn't it? I mean, the Stones had some great songs, like Sympathy for the Devil, but then the Beatles were the Beatles. So. What do I choose? Hmm.

I'ma go with the Beatles, if only because they wrote Hey Jude.

Greatest song of all time, really.

Or...was he?

That site still makes me shake my head in frustration.

But anyway, toastpaint.

I think Paul McCartney may have gotten bit full of himself lately. Although I suppose that if people had been worshipping you for 40 years (and you had $1 billion to show for it) that you would too. So I suppose we can forgive him. Just don't write any more songs, OK Paul?

And my dad met Ringo, so there's always that.

Well, knowing very little about either band, I'm going Beatles, because I know more of their songs. Everyone react accordingly.

That letter from "Stephen King" is hilarious though...blah blah "a way to allow you to avoid dealing with your own mental and spiritual problems. Let it go," blah blah, "Best," illegible signature. I mean, insult the guy and sign it "Best," that's awesome! XD

Anyway, toastpants.

Paul McCartney has totally gotten full of himself. Every time he says or does something you can practically hear him going, "Look at me! I'm Paul McCartney!" But of course, we put up with it, 'cause you can't hate a Beatle. Nopes. Aah, but he's nice deep down. Wrote "Hey Jude" for Julian, somehow ended up with a nice girl like Linda, "Maybe I'm Amazed" is a great song...hey, he's alright. Anyway he's better than Bono. ( :sb: : Oh, man, I hate this guy!)

Anyway, if we go by appearances on The Simpsons, it's still a tie, because while three Beatles and two Stones have been on the show (not simultaneously, of course - 'twould be madness), John was already dead, and Jagger and Richards are apparently the only Stones who matter (to the layperson, anyway). George had the awesomest cameo, of course...Homer's like, "Ohmigodohmigodohmigod! Where did you get that brownie?!". Silly Homer, George stopped eating those brownies a long time ago. ;) And while it was funny watching Keith & Mick doing their housework, I think the best rockstar in that episode was Tom Petty (of course I do.). I want one of those guitars.

Oh. Um. Toastpants?

Oh and Danielle, don't worry 'bout that. Long as you like more of the songs you know by the Beatles, that's still the right choice.

How come nobody here seems to like Paul? He's been getting bashed around quite a lot on this topic.

Actually, all the "Paul-bashing" you quoted was from me...well, except for the one telling him not to write any more songs. And after that last one I did admit he's a nice guy, deep down. ;) So, that's a total of two people not much liking McCartney. Not really a predominant opinion.

Anyway, it keeps the onus off Ringo.

Don't get me wrong, now, Paul McCartney was a brilliant songwriter in his day, and I'm sure he's a nice enough guy, but it just seems that lately he's been saying, "Aw, I'm Paul McCartney! Any song I write is pure musical genius anyway, so why try hard? All my screaming fans will buy it anyway, eh?"

That's just how it seems to me. And maybe he's entitled to think that way. He is Paul McCartney, after all.
