Both of these series are almost to the end. One book left in each. Which series do you think is better? My favorite is A Series of Unfortunate Events

I don't know. I said Harry Potter, but to be fair, I've only read the beginning of the Unfortunate Events. I wasn't fond of reading a book where you felt sorry for the characters, all the time!!

Maybe I'd like those books now...

HP's better. Series of Unfortunate Events is too depressing for me.

I prefer Miserable and Depressing in this case. Lemony is a rather clever author.

In terms of film, I choose A Series Of Unfortunate Events. But going by books, definately Harry Potter.

I've never read Harry Potter, nor do I ever plan to (it doesn't intrest me).

Unfortunate Events on the other hand...

I've read the series over 3 times.

I used to read the Unfortunate Events, but I only got to about seven books.

So I'ma say Harry Potter.

Harry Potter ftw.

I don't really like A Series of Unfortunate Events. I hate the writing style Snicket uses, where he writes out everything he's thinking.

Unfortunate events. Harry Potter has gone incredibly downhill...

I voted I like them both the same, because I don't care for either one of them.

Harry Potter is better. ASOUE has the same plot for the fist, like, 10 books. his writing style is unigue, but its not enough to compete with Harry Potter.

I don't really prefer either one but I'd rather read and HP book than a Lemony Snicket book. Althought the commentary on the movie for SOUE is HILARIOUS. Oh, and happy 1111th post KDu. :)

S.U.E. Just looks like Encyclopedia Brown or those Choose Your Own Adventure books next to the H.P. stuff. Of course, those all pale in comparison to L.O.T.R. :kot:

Unfortunate Events. I don't find them depressing--I think they're hilarious! They're too over-the-top to be depressing.

A Series of Unfortunate Events are good, but they just don't have quite the world, characters and storyline of the Harry Potter books. In my opinion the HP series are some of the best books ever written. A Series of Unfortunate Events are good, but they aren't anywhere near the top of the list. :homsar:

I say HP is the best because that's the only one I ever read.
But Harry Potter isn't the best series ever.
No, sir.

Uh, yeah. Series of Unfortunate Events isn't mean, depressing, crazy or strange or demonic in any way whatsoever[/sarcastic]

Seriously. I've never read it, but I've seen the movie and the front covers of the books and they're kinda unsettling.
Didn't the bad guy try to marry a girl, like, an eighth of his age?
And lots of other freaky stuff.
HP is a fairy tale compared to that.

In the first book, Count Olaf ( the villian ) plans to make a play in whitch violet ( one of the Baudilare children ) "acts" to marry him. This is only a trick on the audience watching, because it turns out to be a real marriage. Thankfully, violet writes her marriage certificate with her left hand ( which is not her writing hand ) and succesfully foils his plans.

I've read the series three times, and I must say this. They are extreamly harmless. With all the humor put into them, it's very diffucult to find them "morbid".

P.S. SEAN'D it's also best to review the books before making an opinion. The movie DOES NOT COUNT. It was a complete mockary to the books. And if your going to rate the books by their cover...well..."Don't judge a book by its cover".

Thank you.
