Hah. I've dropped my DS on numerous occasions. Nintendo makes very durable hardware.

You don't even have to try hard to break a PSP. One drop and it's done.

IMO, the PSP is more of gimmick than the DS. Look at me! I can play movies, and music, and photos, and only and handful of good games!!!!!! I can download firmware updates and be hooked up to a computer, and I have this crappy little analog nub that looks like a speaker (seriously it took me 10 minutes to figure out how to properly move when I first played the PSP)!!!!!
The only thing I need my handheld gaming system to do is play games, which the DS does well. The touch screen isn't really used as a gimmick anymore. It works really well in Metroid Prime Hunters and a lot of games, Mario and Luigi: Partners in time, New Super Mario Bros, Tetris DS, etc. barely even use it. The ability to talk with words and pictures is useful, as is the ability to have two games in the system at once. The lower cost is always a plus, too.
oh, btw this is what nintendo has to say about backwords compatibility.

But you know what really bugs me abot the DS? No original Game Boy support! What's Up With That(TM)?

It would've taken up too much space to put in the original chipset.

It's not a gimmick, since the PSP is a multimedia handheld, not a games station. If it was a games station, it would be a gimmick.

So, I'm right. You're wrong.

So if the PSP is a multimedia handheld, why are we comparing the DS and the PSP in the first place?

Yeah, in this argument the price of the PSP always comes up. However, this is irrelevant and therefore should not be discussed. Why? If you're being asked "What's the BETTER system?" Then the PRICE of the system should logically not come into play. If it's a better system, it cost more to make then the worse system, and is therefore justified in having a higher price.

I also find Nintendo to be a childish company.

...No. I don't know about you, it's just that those kind of games... don't appeal to me. But, I mean, your opinion is your opinion.

Also, a touch screen on a handheld? I.. just don't really see the point.
EDIT:W00t. I have pi posts (314.) (Sort of.) (well, I guess it's three POINT one four) (Meh, still got the digits, though.)

 Wow. There are A LOT of Nintendo fans at HRWiki...

Ya! DS Lite! My friend just got a DS Lite for a graduation present and it's his first game system EVER and he's so happy and it's so hot! Compared to the regular DS ( :(( mine :(( ) the DS Lite is...um...something much, much, much better than the original DS.

I agree that price should not be a factor in determining which is "better," but for entirely different reasons. Better is totally subjective, and costing more to make does not automatically make something "better." Take my $1200 notebook, for example. I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything, but it's also somewhat fragile. I could sit on it and probably break a good portion of it. But my GameCube that cost me $70 used can--well, go to YouTube and search for "console damage test" to see what they've done to various systems and gotten them to work for. I realize that's sort of an unequal comparison, so back to the PSP and the DS. Regardless of what you think about the games, there are areas where the cheaper DS is clearly superior to the PSP, such as durability and overall craftwork and resistance. But the PSP's parts, the source of its cost and under your reasoning the source of its superiority, and far more easily breakable and of less "quality." So it's far more complex than that.

I prefer DS (Not Lite), I don't really see much point in upgrading game consoles and think they are a waste of money, though I'm an idiot.

Heck no. I mean, it has a whole ton of sexy innuendo in it. There is no way that would be allowed in a kiddies game. And the words the King uses are not in a childs vocabulary.

DS Lite. I got it some weeks ago and I love it!

And about blaming Nintendo for making childish games.. Yes, there's a lot of cute, shiny-colored games and games about puppies for the DS and for the upcoming Wii, but there's more than just that. There are more mature, less comic-like games (e.g. Resident Evil). Not trying to sound like a complete fanboy apologist, but Nintendo are clearly trying to appeal to as wide an audience as possible by making .
And besides, just because you're not a child anymore doesn't mean you shouldn't play, for example, the New Super Mario Bros but "0MG SUPER-ELEET GRAFIK GAEMS WIT BLOD GORE FAST CARZ AND BIG CHESTZ" -sort of games (no offense to fans of gory games, car games or chest games) or that you're too old for something. There are many great, more mature games but it's stupid to assume that that's the only sort of stuff teens/young adults/adults should play.

The PSP, on the other hand, doesn't look that bad. I just don't have a need to watch movies on a handheld console and I think it's too expensive.

Here are some quotes from the cool "beetle". One with the horn:

"Wow, this island is so good, I can't stop playing with my horn!"
"The perfect harmoney between me and the island makes me wanna play with my horn!"

And yeah, I've seen loco-roco. It's a good game. This is a reason why I dislike the youth of today. THey sem to think that if there isn't blood, gore, swearing, and nudity, then it's a kids thing. Is super mario a kids game? Asteroids? Tetris? Space Invaders? No, just because they're suitable for kids doesnt make them aimed at kids.

This argument is going NO WHERE.

Admittedly, I'm partial to nintendo myself, but seriously. Is arguing over a console worth anything?
I mean, the things all have disadvantages and advantages which make people like them. But SO WHAT?
Just leave the argument aside Funk 'kay?

What's the point in arguing over a console anyway? There's no goal in it.

Toastpaint.

Ummm, isn't that the opposite argument of the point you were trying to make?

The main resason i like Nintendo is because of the viriety, on PS2 it is mostly FPS's and RPG's and Racing games. They are not bad, there are just to many, that is the only things that really come out, and Nintendo is trying to change that with games like Super Smash Brothers and the New Super Mario Bros. while still haveing FPS's and RPG's and stuff.

and it looks like we could use a Toastpaint.

Wow, now that was hard. Not that I wish to imply that I haven't played the others, as well. My friends own both PSPs and DSs, and I enjoy playing a few games from both systems. I don't plan on buying a PSP though, since I can buy a Nintendo Wii at the same or at a [hopefully] lesser cost.

Oh, and I'm still praying for a Banjo-Threeie (or Banjo-Kazooie DS) on the Nintendo DS, since Rare can still develop for the Nintendo handhelds.

Man, I'd just be happy with a port! I'm psyched that they're porting Diddy Kong Racing, and even giving us a few new characters and a track editor to boot! A whole new Banjo game would be teh BAERM. :coachz:

Okay, I think that a lot of the comparisons we make on the Fun Polls forum are are not meant to be made. I'm now thinking that this comparison is one of said comparisons, a better comparison would be between the PSP and the GBA, but, then again these are too far apart, release date-wise.

I'd have to agree with seeing a new Banjo game (hopefully one for a console). I could never beat Banjo-Kazooie, but Banjo-Tooie was awesome.
