Close, but not quite.

You're on a planet.
You have stuff.
You LOSE ALL YOUR STUFF.
Then the rest.

At least it bothers to provide an excuse. Most games just start you off at square one regardless of what happened in the sequel without any explaination for all of your stuff to suddenly be back and Level 1.

true dat,
anyhoo, the only reason why I like Zelda over Metroid is because Zelda has far less backtracking, yes I know backtracking is he essence of Metroid but there is a limit and Metroid Prime 2 crossed the line with the key-crap, that made search almost every room in the game again unless you scanned gaurdians in the corrisponding room in the dark realm(long story...to long to tell). But that is Metroid i know but MP2 was rediculous.

Not entirely true. She talks/thinks in Zero Mission and Fusion (moreso in the latter). She's actually quite composed and intelligent, with a surprisingly nostalgic streak. She has a very strong sense of morality, and she seems fairly military. (This is also juding by wordless actions in cutscenes from the series and the like.)

I'm a Literary Dork. Analyzing characters is what I do. In comparison, Link is a shoddy shell whose character purpose is little to nothing beyond being the avatar of the player.

And being a Literary Nerd myself, I also love character depth.
This has always been the thing I've disliked about video games: lack of story and character depth.

Though when it does happen, I eat it up immediatly.

This is why I love Majora's Mask over Ocarina of Time. You see, in OOT, Link is called to be the Hero of Time. And in Link's case, he goes along with it without one word. It didn't make any sence.

While in MM, the plot was a bit more realistic. The moon is comming down in three days, so unless you want to experince the same three days for the rest of your life, it would be best if you defeated the foe responsible for this.

But it didn't stop there, ALL of Majora's Mask had great character depth. Majora's Mask was the most innovative villians in a Zelda game, or for that a matter, in any game. You never learned why it wanted to deystroy Termina, or anything really. And the Final Dungeon had me shocked. Instead of a dark and intimidating room, it was simply a grassy field with a single tree in the middle. And there where five children wearing masks.

It's lines when you where about to fight it was incredible:
"Oh, everyone has left. That's okay, we'll play a different game. Hmm, you don't have many masks. That's okay, I'll give you this. *you get the Fierce Diety mask* So, we'll play Bad guys and Good guys. Your bad so you just run away. So then, shall we play?"

It was so refreshing compared to Ganondorf. Who was evil because the game needed a villian.

Villians have the potential to be some of the most fascinating people in any work in any genre if done right. This is why so many people adore Kefka from FFVII. He was just plain insane. My favorite villians are the ones that leave you utterly confused--is (s)he an utterly irreconcilable destructive force just down and out bent on taking over the world, or a mislead, pitiful creature who has no notion of how to diplomatically obtain their goal--or let alone, with an objective born more out of simple ignorance and anything else? What if a villian is perfectly kindly and genial, but just has it out for the hero? What if the villian is crazy and doesn't know what they're doing?

This is why Bowser from the Mario series is one of my favorite villains. His plans all suck. No doubt about it. But he's so vulnerable; so human. He's really very insecure in himself. He really does care about Peach--he would never try to hurt her. But his nature is inherently brusque, and he has no idea of how to cope with himself or the world when he's feeling "soft."

At least Link goes "Hyaaa!" and stuff.

Yes, but he barely ever speaks words, too.

For that matter, when's the last time you heard Kirby, or even Mario say a complete, coherent sentence? 0_o

Kirby's never spoken, as far as I know...but Mario?

AgentSeethroo is proud to present "Mario's Greatest Hits" Volume 1!

Here's a sampling of the tracks:

Track 4: It's-a me, Mario!

Track 12: Press start to play!

Track 18: Hoo! Ha! Hyah! Wahoo!!

...

Okay, that last one was a little off, but still...

Kirby also talks in Super Smash Bros. Melee, where he mimics the character's cries as he uses their moves. "Fawcon PAUNCH!" "PK Fwash!" He's so... lispy.

We know he CAN talk, though, because he uses his cell phone a lot. We just never hear it.

Quite a bit of the time, you do need a goal after all. But I really like a game where you must collect something that makes sence.

For example, in Majora's Mask, the goal was to free the four giants of Termina and to use them to stop the moon from crashing. It made perfect sence.

While in most other Zelda games, like OOT, you had to collect these stones or emblems in order to make yourself powerfull enough to face the final boss. While all the sages did was create a rainbow bridege to Ganondorf's castle.

However, other Zelda games used the collect stone idea in a very refeshing way. As in the Wind Waker. Why did you have to collect those three pearls? To raise the Tower the Gods. Why? Because that leads to the Master Sword. Why do I need the sword? To defeat Ganondorf. But, the sword is powered down, which then lead on to the sages.

You see? It made sence. That's why the Wind Waker is my second favorite game in the series.

Oh, and to those of you who don't know what Metroid and Zelda are:

I think it's because of all the side-quests. You can add at least 10 extra hours with the side-quests. Especially Majora's Mask, which had more side-quest then main quest. It gives you the option of course, but a lot of game time can be shrunk with it.

My personal favorite side-quest is getting the wedding mask in Majora's Mask. It's so lovely and saddening at the same time.

Zelda is the only series ever to make me cry more than once during the same game. That's sayin' something about the writing for sure.

I would take it that its the scenes with Pauline and her father, and Kafi and Anju? ;)

I've cried to both. But more with the first then the second.

Majora's Mask in my opinon had the best writing for a game. And the best characterization in a Zelda game, so far.

Eiji Aonuma directed Majora's Mask, and he's currently working on Twilight Princess. If he goes in the same direction he did with MM, I might just call Twilight Princess my favorite Zelda game.

yes Prime 2 was not very fun, but I LOVED prime 1

I agree. Prime 2 was pretty boring, I never even bothered to finish it. They need to make an original Metroid game. No more Prime series, please stop. Please.

Both Metroid Primes pwned. All sorts of exploring and exploding and morph ball rolling fun. That Spiderball boss on MP2 is still totally awesome. And I personally love scanning everything and anything, but I guess that's just me. I enjoyed them a lot more than the side scrolling classic Super Metroid (which I also enjoyed).

I guess it all comes down to opinions.

But Legend of Zelda still beats them with Wind Waker. I just need this "virtual consule" thing so I can play Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

Yep, you'd be quite right, Alexander. Very touching, it is.

The Spider Guardian makes me want to hurt small animals. ...And what do you know! IT'S a small animal! Now if only I could just STEP on it. *smashcrush*

I don't know if my first VC download should be my favorite game ever (OoT) or the one really great game I've never played (Super Metroid).
