Wikipedia doesn't know everything. That article looks very outdated and untouched. Nintendo confirmed at E3, and most major gaming sites (1up, GameSpot...) carried the news that yes, indeed, TP is coming out in a separate Wii version--scuttlebutt suggests it may only come out in the GC version here in the US, but that's only rumor.

I choose Zelda because Metroid is good but Zelda is great. I mean in everything. Also, MP2 was bad because u had to run through dark and light world and it took SO long.

Sorry to break the toastpaint, and I know this is a dated reply, but now the article is deleted. Why? As CT said, it was dated, and that edit probably cam from you or something. (by "You" I mean chekt)

If you really were one, you would've capitalized the "n" in that sentence. :P

Ah! But I meant the general term for, "nazi" as reffering to someone who wants perfection in a certain area.

...

OK! WIKIPEDIA SAYS IT'S NOT CAPITALIZED WITH "GRAMMAR NAZI!"

Also, if he really was a grammar nazi, he would've corrected the spelling error. It's Metroid, not Meteroid.

Oh yeah, and I voted or Metroid. I love Metroid! Definitely my absolute favorite game series of all time. I've played most of the Zelda games on The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition, and I didn't think any of them were that great. Yes, this includes Ocarina of Time. Yes, I know I will be forever shunned because of this. :P

As for Metroid, I've loved every game in the series that I've played. I used to own a demo to Metroid Prime 2, and from that, I don't see how you people could say that game sucked. It was awesome! I loved the atmosphere in it too.

Which, of course, is another reason Seethroo is wrong about his claim that Metroid has no personality. Atmosphere. There's no way you can play a Metroid game without noticing and absolutely loving that dark, foreboding kind of atmosphere. The music adds to it a lot, as well. I mean, it sounds eerie, yet epic. Foreboding, yet catchy. Majestic, yet energized. And plus some other stuff that's pretty indescribable. And the personality is there, right there in the atmosphere. That's Metroid's personality, and you see it in every Metroid game, and, yes, this includes Metroid Prime Pinball. Also, as CT said, Samus also adds a lot of personality to the games, and you can see her own personality in Zerio Mission and Fusion. And every other frickin' Metroid game. I heard that in Metroid Prime you can hear Samus saying her mission logs. And also, about what Seethroo said that Samus simply always follows orders and stuff in her missions and never really says much, I say this: She's really more dutiful. She doesn't work for the Galactic Federation, but she always takes their missions over anyone else's and feels some duty towards them (there's more personality right there). And besides, if she was always talking or making noises in-game like Mario or Link, that would extremely annoying and would totally ruin the atmosphere, not to mention the great music. So there's lots of personality in Metroid, and I'm surprised See hasn't, um, seen it.

And like See said, Samus is a total hottie. I cannot argue there.
And this has almost nothing to do with the rest of my post, but I still gotta say it. I love the part near the end of Metroid Zero Mission, right after the stealth mission. After you beat the boss, you get your suit back and the three unknown items you've been carrying are finally identified: the Gravity Suit (lets you move freely in any liquid including lava, withstands extreme heat like the Varia suit, and greatly reduces damage taken), the Space Jump (basically let's you fly by letting you continually somersault in the air), and the Plasma Beam (let's you shoot through enemies). Well, earlier in the game you find the Screw Attack, which lets you damage enemies with a somersault. So you can now fly around the stages and crash through enemies thanks to the Space Jump coupling with the Screw Attack. Also, you got the Wave Beam earlier on, and that let's you shoot through walls. So now you can shoot several enemies behind a wall with only a single shot, thanks to the Plasma Beam and Wave Beam coupling together. Then when you're back on the SPace Priate ship, you'll eventually find the Power Bomb, which allows you place a bomb the destroys every enemy onscreen. So now that you have all this, Samus becomes a force to be reckoned with. And the game capitalizes on this by playing this awesome, grand, epic-sounding music in the background. It sounds awesome. The experience is incredible.

Well that is the demo, in the actual game it is ridiculously hard, there are to dimentions you travel through and near the end you have to scour the dark one and find 9 invisable keys. That is a huge amount a back-tracking that some people just dont have the energy to do. Get the real game and you will see what we mean.

the chekt, all Metroid games have backtracking in them. It's one of the things that makes the series have a unique feel.

And I still can't decide. Both series are just far too grand.

(Metroid rant)

I definitely have to agree about the atmosphere. I was reading an article in TIME magazine about the Wii (yes, TIME magazine ran an article about the Wii... It was pretty interesting, actually) and it called Twilight Princess "...dark, by Nintendo's Disneyesque standards." Apparently coming from someone who's never played a Metroid game. I remember in Metroid Prime, the part in the Phendrana research labs where you get the Thermal Visor, and how pretty much that entire section scared the everloving daylights out of me. The way the rooms would be all quiet when you first entered, dark from the power outage... and that creepy music would begin, telling you that you weren't alone... And suddenly, from out of nowhere, the pirates would attack! And you could never let your guard down until the music faded out and was replaced by the tranquil humming of the machines... but you knew they'd be back. I remember playing that late at night and being rooms and rooms away from any save station... The mood created by that music alone had my skin crawling all over my body. And let's not forget Metroid Fusion, in the sections with the SA-X... Where the music faded to a slight, worried trail, the most prominent sound being her footsteps and a rushing noise that might have been her breathing... And then she saw you, at that terrified music began, and you had to run. You really did feel like a hunter that had become the hunted.

If those games can be praised for anything (and they have a LOT going for them), it's their ability to create atmosphere with music and sound. The tunes themselves may not be that complex, but they are always fitting, and implimented in a way that rivals the best movies when it comes to setting a tone.

Metriod wins. Sure Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite games of all time, and the other games are great, but overall metroid has better stuff. You can't beat the insanity of the original, the confused aimless wandering of the second, the brilliant depth of Super metroid, the thrilling gameplay and bosses of Metroid Prime 1 & 2, the awesome story of fusion, or the frantic multiplayer action of Metroid Prime Hunters. Legend of Zelda has less variety and thus gets less points as a franchise. Oh, and Metroid actually has a canonical running storyline that needs only a little intrepretation to understand. Zelda lost all hope of that years ago.

Oh yeah, I can clearly remember those parts of the game. It scares freakin' daylights out of you when she sees you. And then let's not forget the second-to-last boss, the SA-X itself.
You enter the room, start flying around with the space jump, see a little ledge up top and think "Hey, maybe I'll fly over and land over there." So you do that. And then all of sudden, BOOM!!! You hear this crash and there's the SA-X, right there. And it's going all hyperactive on you, trying to destroy you and everything. And when you begin to fight it, you begin to see how evenly matched you've become to it. Eventually, if you've got the skills, you send it in to its second larger and more-ugly form. Good thing it's a
bigger target now. Then you finally wittle it down to the Core-X, which can still attack you. If you don't die from that, you break the spiny outer shell and then what happens? It flies off.
Which leads to final boss battle, which I don't want to spoil for those of you who haven't played this awesome game. Let's just say the SA-X has a very large role in the battle. As well as a certain other group that you helped out earlier in the game.
