i felt bad for some girl at my school(i am in high school) and she rode her bike and wore a helmet, and everyday at the cross-walk on her way to the freshman building people would look at her funny and laugh when she was gone, i felt bad for her.

Most of the time, you probably don't need a helmet, but when you do, you sure as well want to be wearing one. Besides, they don't necessarily have to look dorky - unlike, say, other kinds of bike gear (Bike shorts? Eww...)

Let me say this. Bike shorts aren;t really that bad. If they are on, ohh, let's say a pretty girl, then Rock, rock on! Now if they are on a Lance Armstrong wannabe, then it can be kinda bad. Especailly if he's not in the greatest of shape.

helmets are very good. about half a year ago, i was in a big crash and believe me, i would have probably suffered much brain damage if i wasn't wearing my helmet. lying motionless in a hospital bed, dribbling, isn't very appealing.

Try telling that to my father and aunt, both of whom would have died many years ago from their respective motorcycle crashes had they not been wearing their helmets. In fact, in the case of my aunt, when she was flung from her motorcycle, she landed directly on her head on the pavement, splitting the helmet entirely in two. Imagine if that had been her bare head.

I never ride a bike without a helmet.

I wear one if there's one available. Right now I don't own one. But I'm pretty paranoid when I'm doing any dangerous activity without a helmet.

Meh. I don't wear one when riding bike. I don't wear one at all, but If I had one, I would probably wear one for skateboarding. I fall off my skateboard all the time.

Helmets are definetely helpful, but it's kinda annoying to have a bulky helmet strapped to your head...

When riding my bike, I never wear safety gear. And when skateboarding, I'm more worried about my arms and hands. There has been many times I have fallen and scraped up my arm or hands.

Trust me, I've fallen off my bike and rollerblades, and I wished that I had my Helmet on.

I don't wear a helmet, and I ride my bike to and from work every day. It's a hassle to put up with during the day, it makes my hair look like crap, and it makes my head itch like crazy when it's on.

I know I should, but I just can't bring myself to wear one. My ride's short enough that I feel it would be too much trouble for what good it would do me.

I've fallen off the bike a couple times, and while my head wasn't ever involved, I know it's very helpful to have a helmet. I didn't usually wear one though, and that was a bad decision on my part.
I do have a scar, a bit bigger than a quarter, on my knee from a bike injury. I just wouldn't want what happened to my knee to happen to my head, so for me this is a really obvious choice.

I used to never wear a helmet when riding around town, though I would always wear a helmet when I would hit the trails and go mountain biking.

Hm, I thought I'd already posted here. Anyways, I always wear a helmet. You never know what could happen. It can't do anything bad to you, and it could save your life - why wouldn't you wear it?

Kinda embarassing to admit, but...I still don't get how to ride a bike. Well, yeah, I know you pedal with the, um...pedals, and use the handlebars for steering. Duh. I guess technically kno the basics of how to ride a bike, but the problem I have with bikes is balance. All bikes hate me. I see a buncha other people and they're riding 'em like they're masters, like they've been doing it all their life. Which actually isn't much of an exaggeration. But when I get on a bike, the thing tips over. And there's no way me and my 13 year old self is gonna ride all over the neighborhood with training wheels. Now that would be embarassing.

So really, I don't know how to answer.

I voted very-helpful. I'm not the greatest bike-rider in the World (don't ask why, I have good balence...). And a helmet might've saved my life in one incident. I fell of my friend's bike into a metal bar, smashing my head.. Needless to say if I wasn't wearing a helmet I'd definetle be in the hospital and proably have brain damage, or worse.
