I didn't get where I am by reading manuals.

Wait...where am I?

If the game has a tutorial, I generally take a very quick look at that. Otherwise, I play through by experience.

Manuals are for wimps!

I usually do it myself, but sometimes I look at walkthroughs on the interweb if I have to.

I suck at videro games where you have to actually get something done, so I use the tutorial. I don't do that for like, animal crossing or nintendogs though.

Usually by expierence but if I absolutely cannot figure something out, I'll go for the manual. And if it's completely unlike any game I've ever played before, I'll try the tutorial.

I prefer to read the manuel before I do anything, but that usually doesn't give me any real help, so the tutorial gets me the next best lesson.

Or, in the case of Blockbuster scenarios, sheer ignorance of controls or anything can lead to a crash course from the school of hard knocks...

I just play it and figure it out. Sometime afterwards I'll glance the manual to get certain moves or controls down.

Trial by fire. I play it until I learn it.

I'll usually flip through the manual until I find the controls, then try to remember them.

Experience. And after a while I check out the manual.

If the game has a tutorial I do that, otherwise the manual.

i just press start. or begin. or whatever. i press some obvious keys, eg arrow buttons, alt, ctrl. then, i press more random keys eg letter keys and if i get really stuck, i go to gamefaqs.

I would play from experiance, unless it has really wierd controls, like "Me and My Katamari"

Playing is learning. I did, however, watch the tutorial in Polarium.

I always read the manuel the before playing a game.

I'd rather learn everything then struggle with it while playing.

Unless it's a new game that I know by heart. I don't think I'll have to read the Twilight Princess manuel.

I read the manuel, but I learn how to play most from the in-game tutorial.

I flip through the manual, only to find if it has anamorphic widescreen or progressive scan. If there is an in-game tutorial I will run through that. Otherwise I practice in the single player mode before I do multi-player.

And Funk, how does Me and My Katamari compare to the others? I was thinking of getting a PSP emulator for my GP2X if that game was any good.

I learn from experiance. It's easy and quick. Except you can't skip training in MGS. :p

I can make it on my own. [/li'l brudder]

I still read manuals though. But not to learn how to play. I just look at the artwork and read what they have to say about the game.

And I normally don't go through tutorials either, but, well, if there weren't any tutorials in Kirby's Dream Course, I would've spent so much time learning that I would have lost interest in the game long before I could even know how to play it right. So... I go through them only when I really need to.

I have traditionally read through each manual thouroughly before trying a new game, often for the artwork and story as much as the tutorial. This has dropped off in recent months, but I suspect I will be reading many manuals once I have a Wii.

Oooh, yes, I forgot about that. I love the little artwork in the manuals, and sometimes my friends and I will play odd "games" with the manuals... like identifying all the Pokémon in Pokémon manuals.

Yeah. The art in manuals is awesome. That's what makes them great to read.

I usually just ask IJ because he's probably the one that introduced me to the game. Barring that, I just learn as I go.

I like games that have tutorials, they are there to help you play the games easier. So I do those.
There are some games, like GTA for example, that teach you the controls as you go along, and it doesn't really matter if you skip them or not.

For most games, I skim the manuals for the controls and whatnot. Sometimes, I just start the game right out ofthe box, especially if the game has similar controls of another game, like Pokemon and Super Smash Bros. Melee.

I usually just do the tutorials. But if it dosen't have one I don't even think about reading the manul, I just go ahead and play the game.
if it dose'nt have a tutorial it usually means its easy.

I just mess around until I find out how to do things. Someties I look at the instructions when I still can't figure it out.

I go by experience through tutorials. Like I don't really listen to what they say, I just do stuff in the tutoriasl where I can't get hurt too bad until I figure it out.
