Gassing might be qualify under that, but I don't know how long it hurts before you die.

Depending on the gas, it could be extremely painful. As far as the gas used for most criminal exterminations (carrying out the death penalty), I hear that the gas took several minutes to fully kill you, with a lot of coughing up blood and pieces of lung and such in the process. Other gasses, such as carbon monoxide (depending on the amount in the air, measured by parts per million), can cause relatively quick and painless deaths, when used in such quantity as to intentially cause death. 4% of CO in the air (that's 40,000 ppm) will cause the victim to go unconscious immediately and the heart to stop beating within 30 seconds.

Wow. That's holy-crud freakish. That sounds unenviable. Worse than being shot or stabbed...

Burning. Just think of the horrible pain you're in if your skin is being burnt off, inch by inch, and on your insides being burnt.... *Jibbles*

..... Yeah, my neighbor was in the Navy, and she rescued people before who were about to drown, and they said the 10-15 seconds before they were about to die where peaceful as can be.

Plus, I love the water, so it may be different for me.
While the last 15 seconds or so might be peaceful, I'd still be freaking out before that. I'm no huge fan of water.

Open waters or just hydrophobia in general?

Open water. I like my pool, but I'm not a fan of lakes. And that's kinda ironic, considering that Lake is my last name.

I love big open bodies of water, though. The smell of the sea... Mmm. The only things that bug me are big slimy algae deposits and jellyfish. XD

I don't mind water that doesn't go over my head, but anything deeper and I'm petrified. Even if it's a small pool. I won't swim in anything deeper.

I'd have to go with torture, with burning being a close second. Some methods of fatal torture are... nigh unspeakable.

For example, I read in this book one way pirates would fatally punish someone was to cut a hole in your gut, pull out part of your intestines and nail it to a pole. Then they would poke you with burning sticks and stuff to force you to run around the mast until you pulled out your guts and died.

That... just can't be real.

It sounds too gruesome to be real, but remember how the Romans killed and tortured people, such as through crucifixion...or like that one dude in the movie Caliglia...

Nazi Germany, too, with their concentration camps and death camps, were so horrid that one would only think it could come from a movie. That was perhaps even worse than general torture, because they worked so hard to crush the very spirit of the people they were exterminating before allowing them to finally die.

Yeah, being burnt alive would be a really painful way to die. Another painful way to die would be being crushed by somthing huge, like a bolder or a wall from a house. But, I too have a death phobia, so pretty much any means of dying freaks me out.

On a grander scale, a cause of death I'd be really afraid of would be something from a practically unstoppable force, such as a massive outbreak from biochemical warfare, or something more sci-fi like an AI revolt against humans or an alien invasion or something...

Ahem... Back to the topic.

Yeah, I'm a thanatophobe as well. Just thinking about dying at all really bothers and scares me. But so long as I went peacefully, I think I could tolerate it.

But I would know how to survive, since I've already prepared my worst-case zombie survival hideaway.

Though I don't know that I'd want to survive in a world like that...

But toastpaint.

The agony of burning would be the worst possible way to go. Especially if it was spontaneous combustion. Then you'd be utterly confused on top of writihng in pain.

I would say drowning. Most likely because I can picture it...

Think of the feeling when you're swimming and holding your'e breath for a long time, and how you get dizzy and your chest is extremely tight...

Then think of the feeling of choking on water, but only its 20 times more water and absolutely no air gets in....

And combind them and multiply by 10...

:-S

Sorry.

EDIT: Oh yea. How do they know you have a moment of piece before you die by drowning??? It's sort of impossible to know.

EDIT AGAIN: Oh yea. Um... fun polls. I think not! Lol.

I was gonna go with drowning because of that panic that you get when you can't breathe. But I went with burning because it would hurt a lot.

Near-death expieriences, yanno. Check Ninti's post. People who have almost died, but didn't, remember these things...

Gas. I cant imagine people who died of that in world war 1. Because even if you dont die, you will go blind. And its slow, unllike a bullet.

There are a lot of ways to die that I wouldn't want to go through. Actually, I really don't want to die from anything other than old age.

I'd say burning would be the worst, with drowning at a close second.
