From which continent did you come?

(I apologize for double posting, but the last topic didn't include all six continents inhabited by people.)

You know, I've been seeing the word "favorite" being erroneously spelled as "favourites." But I don't blame those of you who do include the "u" in it considering it's a British way to do it, I think. So I thought I could post a topic concerning which continent each and every one of you origninated in. Antarctica is the exception.

The wording of the question is kinda weird...I think you mean "on which continent do you live?" I think it's sort of erroneous to ask "Where do you come from?" online, because you're just at your computer, so it's not like you've physically travelled anywhere outside of your home/work/school. I almost took this poll to mean "from which continent are your geneological roots," in which case, the answer would be Europe and not North America. But I picked North America, since that's where I currently live.

Yep, I've lived in North America all my life, too. As have my parents, grandparents, and to my knowledge, a few more generations, at least.

North America for me. I don't know how many generations on the maternal side of my family have lived here, but I know for a fact my paternal grandmother was a Polish immigrant.

Speaking of immigrants, my family on my mother's side immigrated to America in 1849.

They were my great great grandfather and mother. I also know that they were Germans.

Technically, no. According to the Wiki, Australasia includes surrounding islands which are not part of the continent. The Wiki refers to Australia as the continent, with a few surrounding island, but not as many as Australasia includes.

Though I guess that does make an interesting point--the poll doesn't take into consideration anyone who might be living on some island that's not included as part of a continent.

I voted North America though, because Hawaii is part of the US, which in turn is part of North America, but Hawaii isn't really in North America. I lived in Virginia for a while though, so I can say I'm from North America even though I wasn't born there.

No... Hawaii is a part of the U.S. and the U.S. is part of America. Therefore you are North American at the time, no matter where you used to live (unless from another country and not a citizen yet.)

We always learned in Hawaiian Social Studies (or whatever it was) that Hawaii IS part of the US (duh) but NOT part of North America. So I am tryly without a continent.
