So this has been at the back of my head for sometime
Eating meat to me is just a way of life, I respect vegetarians (some of my friends are some) but what do you do if the numbers of common edible animals gets too high? do you just let it overpopulate that it becomes a big hassle? Or do you even it out by taking advantage of any nourishment qualities they provide for mankind? Maybe you're just an ominivore and don't eat too much of one kind of food, who knows. but waht's your view on this?

I really don't understand why one would have a problem with eating animals for food. Although I myself am strictly opposed to useless killing of any kind, animals THEMSELVES kill other animals for food, in what is called the circle of life. In fact, the process in which one creature eats another is the only thing that keeps any particular race alive. Why some vegetarians would exclude humans from this elligibility of survival is beyond me. Remember, we do have just as much right as animals to kill for survival. Don't act as if we are the only species that kills others for survival, because this is not true. In fact, the truth is quite the polar opposite. Do any animals BESIDES humans think of the morals involved in killing another animal for survival? NO! So why, then, would anyone treat humans as "worthless" and "not good enough to eat other animals", then? If one states that humans are animals, which I completely agree with, and one realizes the fact that animals must survive by killing each other to eat, there is therefore no reason for humans to refrain themselves from this process herein.

It's a personal choice. I think it's great that vegetarians can do their own thing, and we omnivores can too. I've never met a vegetarian who tried to convince me or anyone else to be one- if I did, I probably wouldn't be too happy about it.

What keeps us alive is what is natural, and since eating food is natural, it doesn't matter what kind of food it is. So just eat what you want.

I figure people were just meant to at meat. I can understand why someone wouldn't want to eat meat, and as long as you don't shove your ideas down my throat I'll give you the same respect.

I'd like to argue a point a little more, the population of common meat animals such as chicken, fish, cows are very large and if we were to keep them it would kind of cause nuisance to take them out of the real world and just care for them. Not only financially, but personally. When's the last time a horse gave you gain for anything but food, It's also not like they have such an eventful life either. Just staring out into the open not sneaking out of the barn to come into the farmer's house and watch Jepoardy! If food was their only purpose, and they can't really give you any compassion or go to work or school for you, what's the point? I'd like to know.

I'm an omnivore. The concept of vegetarianism (Which... isn't a word, I think) doesn't make sense to me - almost everything possible to eat is alive. Vegetables are alive, yet vegetarians eat them. It jsut doesn't make sense in my opinion. But, I respect their choices - heck, the girl i like is a vegetarian - and i don't try to "convert" them. But, if someone brings up the argument that I'm immoral or soemthing like that, i will stand my ground. Do what you want to do, that's awesome, but let me do so, too.

I eat teh both. I'm quite omnivorous. I've only met one vegetarian who tried to convert me away from meat...but it was in our Public Speaking class, where we all had to give persuasive speeches, and vegetarianism as a way of life was hers. Like others here, I don't mind Vegans or anything--it's totally their choice whether or not to eat meat. What I DO have a problem with are the totally whack-job PETA members that actively disrupt life, vandalize public and private property, and even threaten the lives of regular meat-eating folks just to push their agenda. Dude, that's totally wrong. But this is borderlining on being an R&P topic, so I'll shut up here.

"Meat minimalist" here. Nothing immoral about meat. Is it wrong that lions eat gazelles or wolves eat deer? Would you like to stop them? The problem is inhumane farming methods that cram chickens into tiny cages or force feed ducks or cramp cows into tiny, tiny pens. But avoiding meat that could be from those sources doesn't leave very much meat to eat.

It IS possible to get "enough" nutrition without meat, but it can get complicated, and even taking vitamins some people still end up with less energy. That means the "our bodies don't need meat" argument is at best only half-true. I tried vegetarianism (for a few years actually) but now I stick to fish and the free-range, organic hippie meat, no more than 6 servings a week, usually much less. (1 serving = deck of cards size) We needs us some meat, but it only takes a very small amount to get what we need.

Rarely, I'll eat meat if someone's about to throw something away that has meat in it. Throwing away meat should be a crime. It means some person killed an animal for no reason.

Voted omnivore

While I'm not a Vegetarian, I am cutting back on how much meat I do eat. I just about don't eat any meat in Fridays, instead I'll have a Tuna sub.

Well, yes and no. It is a living creature, but yet the Catholic Church states that it's not a meat and you can have it on Fridays during Lent. Makes no sense really.

Have you ever tried Chipotle? They got some of them in your neck of the woods, and their meat and veggies and all that is organic. Their pork is free range and whatnot, too. They talk about it on their website. Go to the Eat section (dang stupid flash websites that don't have any dang links to stuff).

Anyhoo, it's difficult to find restaurants that are that picky about their ingredients, especially in that price range, so I thought I'd bring it up.

Hehe, I'm not really in Aurora, IL, that's just a reference to Waynes World, like the sig. They are putting one in where I'm at though, so I'll check it out.

The word "meat" has meant different things at different times and places. A lot of "vegetarian" dishes in eastern europe have pork in them and when you call them out on it they get all confused and say "pork isn't meat". The Catholic definition is probably the same way. When the rule was made, "meat" meant certain categories of animal flesh and didn't mean all of it like today.

I am an omnivore, but I can whole heartedly respect peoples choices on being vegeterians and... Carnivores? I question this because I have yet to meat* a carnivore. Though I find it fine if they want to eat just meat/just not meat. :p

*Pun intended :p

I put carnivore only because 90% of what I eat is some sort of animal product. I don't get why people say fish isn't meat. It's still the flesh of an animal.
I don't think vegetarianism is healthy at all. We are natural meat-eaters.

I think it's fine to fish and eat fish, and buy meat from the store for example and eat meat. That is fine. But I can understand mindless killing of animals. Catching a fish and not throwing it back without eating it is a waste, even taxidermed.

And another example of mindless killing. This one kid shot a squirrel out of a tree and shot off its male reproductive organ, just for fun. He put it out of its misery, but that doesn't justify it. I swear that kid is demented.

I'm an omnivore. Meat is just too tasty to me, sorry. I agree with most people that if you kill an animal, you should eat part of it. I think it's even OK to get fur or skin from an animal if you eat it. I have no problem with leather because a lot of it comes from beef cows too, and if you hunt rabbits, I think it's OK to take the fur if you eat the meat.

Why am I suddenly craving a game of Oregon Trail?

I'm an omnivore. Actually by nature we, bears, and several other species are. I definitely understand the vegetarian/vegan viewpoint, as one of my best friends has gone vegan. (Sometimes she strays and eats cheese.)
I just had a story related to this. This girl in our high school was very strong about her opinions on veganism, and did not hesitate to talk forcefully about it. She asked a friend of mine why people think meat tastes good if they have to add condiments to flavor it. Well, one day I came across her eating vegetarian jerky, and saying how delicious and meat-like it was. I found it hilarious.
So... omnivore.

It is hard to get the right nutrition from being a herbivore or carnivore if your a human, so I think being an omnivore is the healthiest option.

Although lots of people are eating too much meat these days, and not enough vegetables. I eat meat, and probably too much. I think there are vegetarians who have the right idea. Then there are some who are just like EATING ANY KIND OF MEAT IS EVIL AND WE SHOULDN'T DO IT BECAUSE IT'S UNFAIR TO THE ANIMALS! THEY HAVE FEELINGS TOO!

I watched a documentary once that said eating meat made the early primative humans' stomachs smaller, which made their brains bigger, which made us the smarter people we are today. So... Those vegetarians should go and live like we did before we ate meat. Then they'd be really doing some good, right?

[jessica] meat is murder!
[phil] the animal is already dead! do you think we are honouring it by throwing it in the garbage?!

sorry. i had to share that.

all my beliefs are based off the Philosophy Files.
most people believe animals are allowed to eat each other because they don't know better. but they have nothing against milk. to get a cow to produce milk, it has to get preganant. half of the babies will be a bull. no good for milk. so, what else can we get from them?

The only vegetarians I have had the pleasure of knowing (including my sister) have done it for health reasons or to lose weight. I tease them for it, but I have accomodated them. I can make a mean vegetarian lasagna.

Me? I loves me the rich, delicious taste of meat.

I will say one thing: if anyone's driven down I-5 outside of LA, you likely have encountered a sprawling dairy farm that you can smell from miles away. Cattle are packed side to side with no room. Everything is brown and dusty. It was all quite depressing. Anyway, after getting a glimpse of that "farm," I suddenly understood why several vegetarians give up meat. I sure doesn't look clean, and to be quite honest, those animals didn't look like they were treated well either.

Vegetarians claim to love nature. If they really loved it, they would do the natural thing, and eat as nature intended this species to.
