So, what are they? Personally, I don't like PETA. They actually kill more animals then what they save.

I agree. I saw on Penn & Tellers show on Showtime (the title of which I can't say here but describes bovine manure) that about 3/4ths of all the animals PETA ends up "rescuing," they just euthanize anyway. Now, I know that not all members of PETA are the furcoat-burning, animal testing lab-destroying freaks that we all see and hear about in the media...but the fact remains that the organization still condones these acts and promotes an idea of animal liberation to the point that it seems to go against nature. (i.e. I get the impression that they would try to stop animals from killing other animals as they are naturally wont to do.)

I think some members need to chill out. PETA has a good cause and everything, but some of those people need to get life nd stop taking such extreme measures.

My thoughts on them are thus: Just because you want to be good to animals doesn't mean you can be mean to humans.

Better conditions for animals is a great idea, but you know the saying about old Good Intentions Highway.

Crazy, insane, extremist, over-the-top, moral snobs, are a few words that come to mind.
Throwing blood on people for wearing fur coats is not cool.

The original purpose for PETA, better treatement for animals, is a great cause. Unfortunately, there seems to be radicals that take things too far. Those are the ones that give PETA a bad name.

I don't know much about them, but from what I hear they are mostly extremists who want to take away a lot of our rights. Ha, even though I saw on TV that they attack people like Paris Hilton for wearing all those fur coats. While the slaughter of animals for fur coats isn't right in most cases, no reason to verbally/and sometimes pyhsically assult someone.

I've read an article on them. They likened the 9/11 attacks to killing cows for food.

I don't like them at all.

I used to work at McDonald's and I remember when we would get a letter once a month from PETA reminding us of how many cows were killed in order to produce a days worth of burgers. After once such letter I sent back a response.

McDonald's Employee BTG wrote:

We are aware of the number of cows it takes to make a days worth of burgers, and we would like you to know that our customers enjoyed every single one of them. Have a nice day.

I also sent them a book of coupons for free Big Macs.

They have good intentions, and they have shed some light on some scandals, but I agree that they take a lot of things waaaay too far. First of all, they need to stop trying to get everyone to go vegetarian/vegan. Eating animals is natural, because animals eat other animals in the wild. They also need to stop saying we shouldn't have pets, because many animals have lived their whole lives under domestic care and wouldn't stand a chance in the wild.

That is one of the funniest things that I have heard in a while.
And my feelings toward PETA is the same as all the others here, they are Psycho-Fanatics.

Most of the people at PETA jsut take things to far. I don't push my belifs in you, so stop doing the same to me. I find it funny that they ruin fur coats, that just causes the wearer to buy another one. nd at least the fur is being put to use, by wreckign it, you're making an animal die for no reason, plus making a second animal die to replace the fur coat.

The one thing that really angers me are those comics they handed out to children that said "Your Mommy/Daddy is a Murderer" with a picture of the respective parent with a maniacal look on their face with blood on them (Or soemthing like that. I don't remember, and I don't want to) Yeah, that's smart, scar children for life. What a difference they're making! There are no words to describe how much I hate whoever was for that.

OK, I'm not a big fan of PETA myself. I was especially annoyed when they exploited a kid's death in a shark attack for their own political purposes. However, they did open my eyes to some disgusting corporate farming practices, such as an incident on a pig farm where workers wear beating up crippled pigs with wrenches.

However, they need to lay off on some of the crazy stuff that they're famous for, such as that "Your Daddy Kills Animals" comic targeted for children and their really bizarre campaign to against milk. I sometimes wonder if they're deliberately TRYING to get people to turn against them.

Also, shouldn't this be in the "Religion & Politics" forum? I understand this is a poll, but it could potentially get heated.

I was wondering the same thing, I think that it should be moved.

And did you just say that they were trying to gey kids to stop drinking milk?! Milk is great!

I can understand the cause for better treatment of animals. And I can say that saving animals from abuse is honorable. But I feel that drinking milk, owning pets, and fishing is all right.

And what about animals eating animals? I wonder how they feel about that.

I'm all for ethical treatment of animals, but virtually every time that I see PETA mentioned they are going over the top with their definiton of "ethical". I really don't agree with them.

Although, I'm a member of the alternative PETA group. (people eating tastey animals)

O_o

Suddenly their mission seems to be a little...off kilter.

I still agree with their cause for stopping animal crulty. But it still just seems...

...but we ARE animals. Evolved ones, but animals nonetheless.

I think I'm going to join People Eating Tasty Animals.

(Oh, and I voted Bad.)

In your belief the Noid. I believe that people are different from animals.

I find this shocking because it just doesn't seem to make any sence. If fishing is immoral, then what of the bears?

It just seems like PETA is trying to stop something that animals do everyday.

Biologically, you can't deny that science has long since classified us under Mammals, meaning that we, too, are animals. Just because we're different from other animals doesn't mean we're not animals as well. A panther is different from a raccoon, yet they are both animals.

There's probably a range of people in PETA, but some of them are wacked out. It would be really hard to get all animals off meat. Some animals just can't survive without it. From kitties to lions, if cats don't get meat they'll die a slow death. And a world without cats... bummer.

Personally, I like being an animal with an intellect and a soul, even though it's a lot of trouble a lot of the times

I don't like PETA. It's a good cause and everything, but the problem is that there are a lot of radicals that take things too far. There are better organizations for people to get involved with as far as caring for animals goes.

I also don't like PETA because I am a huge meat person. I order a steak every time I go out to eat. I eat fried chicken. I eat pork. I'm pretty sure I was a carnivore in a past life, if such things exist.

Now here's some food for thought.

PETA condemns the thought that humans are any better than animals. However, animals eat each other in the wild, so one would think people eating animals (since we are technically animals ourselves) would be no big deal. But no, PETA says we can't do that, because we have the power to choose, we know better. But they say that the animals don't have the power to choose, and that they don't know any better. Now, the power to choose...that would make us better than the animals, wouldn't it? There's a little bit of contradiction there, eh?

Gah, I was gonna use that joke. People for the Eating of Tasty Animals for the win! I myself am a member. ;)

Well, not necessarily. Does the ability to think for ourselves make us a superior species? After all, it's only one aspect of many at which we excel. One could say that rats are superior to humans based on their rapid level of procreation. Or that cheetas are far better because of their running speed. Is intellect really the ultimate aspect on which to judge superiority, or are we just saying that because we have an obvious bias and simply want to find a reason to be the best?

That's a good point. Every animal pretty much excels at different things. However, I think (or perhaps, as you say, I want to think) that intelligence is indeed the best quality. Humans would not be able to survive in the wild as we are. We created tools, houses, agriculture...all to aid in our existance. I think in terms of allowing a, let's admit, relatively weak animal to prosper this much, it was primarily based on our logic.

Though your point still stands. A cheetah's speed allows it to stay alive. A rat's superior procreation rate allows its genes to continue, which is the ultimate goal of any species. The point is, every animal has its strong and weak points, and every animal is superior to others in that way.
