What's more important? Want or need? I believe Want is more important, because we can all want something, but needing something is like the bear essentials. What do you think? |

So we're talking importance? Well, need, obviously. If you don't get what you want, no big whoop. If you don't get what you need, you die. |

Well...depends on your point of view. You don't need to live. I don't really think there is a need...just wants. I want to live...but do I need to? |

Well, theoretically yes. This could actually be an infinite arguement. You can't exist without living therefore you must live to exist.... We could go on and on, but it gets to be confusing stuff.... NEEDS are without a dobut more important. If you didn't need to live, there would be no such thing as needs. |

That's why I hates being taught about oxygen and crap in school. I kept saying "You don't need anything" but the teachers were too stubbern |

Even if there are no needs in life, they're still more important, by defenition. |

I need God. That matters much more to me then what I want. |

Needs are more important. We can live without wants, but we will die without needs. |

So.. is this like some kind of existential thing? Like what does it matter that we really exist, what really matters is what we experience, therefore wants are more important? Or is it cultural? Like in the places we live (probably), needs are so easily taken care of that they aren't even worth thinking about? Without taking care of your needs, how could you get what you want? Oh, or maybe you need to want your need or else you don't get it and you die? But wait... you need to want your need, so need is up front again! It's all just... too confusing!

I'd say needs, T-Coke. I want some Cheez-Its right now. But I need to breathe. If I don't get what I want, no big deal. But if I don't get what I need (in this case, oxygen), I'm dead. People often put wants above needs. Do you need a giant flat-screen TV? No. Do you want it? Heck yeah. |

Sometimes wants are more materialistic, while a need is a vital.

Yeah. If you don't get what you need, it doesn't matter what you want, because you's dead. |

Need, duh. If you don't get something you want, then you can still survive. However, if you don't get something you need, well, then you're outta luck. |

So, if you're rich, can you live off wants? |

What are you talking about? If you're rich you still have the same needs as everybody else (though rich people tend to have a very skewed sense of need, e.g. "I need a new Blackberry," "I need another car"), and if your (real) needs aren't fulfilled, you still die. |

That's what I was trying to say, IJ. I mean rich people could live off certain wants if they wanted to, like, Pork and various fruits and, like you said, a new car, right? |

I've still got no idea what your'e talking about. You can't live with solely a car, and you can live without one, so it's a want. Food is a need. |

i'd say need. don't have them, you die most of the time. rather painful dying. you don't get wants, and you're bored. |

Living isn't that nessessary. Unless you happen to be a very important person. But it's still the same. You want to live. You don't need to. You don't need oxygen or food or hydration if you don't need to live. You want oxygen, food, and hydration because you want to. |

But if needs existed, they'd be more important than wants, correct? |

I guess needs are more important then wants. Unless you think of it as needing to breathe making you want to breathe, but that just makes more questions I'd rather not think about. |
