nah, it wasn't much. it was the stockyards level, with the nasty scorpion creatures, the darkness, the dogs, the zappy things, the exploding guards, the sensor mines, the staff room, the glowing orb, the hobo-thing, the sack of dripping, the giant spider-thing, the freaky circles, the mine pit, the gas cloud, the bomb machine, the meat-on-a-stick, the flashing thing, the spooky sign, the shadow cliff, the supernatural powers, the slime, the cage, the slaves, the cannibalism, the screaming spider-creature.
i played it two years ago, so details are sketchy, but i'm sure there was a hobo.

Every time a new generation comes out, I try to be objective. I try to look at the consoles from an unbiased viewpoint. But I can't. I can never afford more than one console, and I just can't live without Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Starfox, and Pokémon. So I give in again, even when Nintendo makes poor business desicions and alienates potential investors. I'm hopeless. :|

Yes, a couple of those may have appeared on Nintendo consoles too (MGS) but the original, most popular versions are generally on Sony consoles.

The original Metal Gear was on NES..
No NES=No MGS (I think)

But I do get what you're saying. It does seem like most of the newer "good" games appear on Playstation or X-Box

Because of the motion based controllers, I think the Wii will either be a tremendous success or a horrific flop. That's what I like about Nintendo, though. They aren't afraid to innovate. They're willing to try new things, and that's why they're still around. I do wish they would not try to make everything "Mario". It's almost like they're trying to prop up a poor concept with a popular character. Sadly, people eat it up, too. Come on Nintendo, you're better than that.

It wasn't *only* on the Nintendo/designed for it though, was it? I might be wrong, but I thought it was originally built for a different, comparitively obscure platform.

I think it was made for the Famicom, which was, more or less, the Japanese version of the NES. Whatever it was made for, you can tell it was ported.

Wikipedia says:
"Metal Gear (video game), a video game first released in 1987 for the MSX computer system, and later ported to a number of other platforms (including the NES and cell phone)."

My first moment with videogames was with Super Mario Bros, so it's pretty obvious what I voted.

That's why I said "I think" and not "I know" :-)

I know.. I appreciate the info (and I'm guessing the rest of the forum does, too)..

I shoulda put some sort of smiley or something at the end of that to highlight the light-hearted nature of the post.

Well, you did say once that you sold your soul to Nintendo, so I think that may explain it.

I'll see your list and raise you...

Super Mario Bros. (The original stuff, not the spin-offs except for...)
Mario Kart
Zelda
Metroid
Donkey Kong
Fire Emblem
Pokemon (Yes, it is ACTUALLY a good game series)
Kirby
Nintendogs
Animal Crossing
Pikmin 2 (The first one was only OK)
Custom Robo
Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan
The upcoming Disaster and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. look indescribably sweet, but since you can't actually play them yet...
Golden Sun
Not to mention having the longest running and most successful handheld games devision of any major gaming company.

Oh yeah, it HAS all that stuff... jeez, how could I not be aware of the existence of Mario Bros? The fact is I *prefer* the stuff in my list. By a very, very long way.

Ok, lets say somehow sony took over nintendo, or nintendo took other sony and sony only made games now. Would the combined efforts be very good or bad?

Because both companies have a specific style of games that they most often create/license, esp Nintendo, and a merger would probably mean diluting those styles quite severely.

I agree.

Although with Nintendo's innovation and Sony's power, some amazing stuff could be made.

Yes, but if you'll excuse the stereotype, how much power is really necessary to render Mario, a cartoon character first shown in 1981?

I can't say I have, but am I right in thinking that he is still a good few steps away from being photorealistic?

You have a point there.

But the point of Mario is to be cartoony, and I was thinking more on the lines of Red Steel and Zelda.

No; if you read the discussion you'll see what I'm saying is that Nintendo does not necessarily NEED the power the PS3 is capable of.

He does have a point, Chekt. Besides, I really, really doubt Nintendo and Sony will ever merge.

Nintendo. Both have high points, but in the long run, definitely Nintendo. I mean, the GameCube has way better graphics and gameplay capabilities than the PS2, and Nintendo is always willing to take a chance. From what I can see, the next PlayStation is just a PS2 on steroids.

Let me go further on with the stuff i love from it.

- Sly Cooper
- Psychonauts(yes, multi console. Care? Not especially. :p)
- Ratchet and Clank
- Jak
- That other one

Anyways, since the only Nintendo game I've ever played enough to judge was Yoshi's Island(and a fine game it was), I'm neutral. We'll see when I cough up cash for the Wii. :P

Oh yes, how could I forget Ratchet and Clank? Those are also near the top of my list. Oh, and while Psychonauts IS my favourite video game of all time, I only played it on the PC.
