Should Pete Rose be allowed in the Hall of Fame?
Yes. You don't get into the hall of fame for off-field actions, so you shouldn't be kept out of the hall for them. 60%  60%  [ 3 ]

Yes, but make sure that his plaque tells of his wrongdoing. 0%  0%  [ 0 ]

Ok, for those of you who don't know who Pete Rose is (and I'm thinking that's most of you, as he played and coached before most of you were born), here's a link.

As the article says, once a player leaves baseball, they have 15 years of elligibility to be inducted. Rose's time was up with the 1996 balloting. There is a possibility that Cooperstown might grant an exception in this case, as Rose was not actually elligible during those 15 years.

So, the issue is, what, if anything, do you think should happen?

You will note that there are two no answers. I don't know how anyone could think his stats aren't Cooperstown worthy, but I've heard that argument, so I put it there.

No.
His stats are Cooperstown worthy. I mean 4000+ hits? That's amazing.

He bet on the game though. To me, that's just horrible. He doesn't deserve to be there solely because he bet on the game.

I'll be upset if MLB lets him in.

My vote was for number 1, but technically, it's more a combination of 1, 2, and 3.
I still don't know how anyone could say he wasn't good enough. Why, oh why couldn't it have been Michael Jordan that bet on baseball (he was in no danger of ever seeing Cooperstown)?

Anyone who does simply doesn't know their baseball.

Actually Rad, he is in the Hall.......kinda. One of his shoes or something is hanging on display with some other stuff from the Reds history. The funny thing is, I believe he owns a restaurant right down the road from the Hall too. As for him getting in though, I doubt he will. If be some chance he does get in, it'll probably be in the next generation, after he dies.

He should be in. He should have gone in a long time ago. Rose's banishment was only supposed to be for a year, but Commissioner Bart Giamatti died four days after the banishment was enacted. The next Commissioner, Fay Vincent, turned it into a lifetime ban. I think it's about time that he is allowed to go where he rightfully belongs, in Cooperstown.

He should be in.

"No, he broke the rules and soiled the game." This would deny almost every baseball player in the last 25 years, if you believe ESPN. I mean, how many got in or will get in based on results acheived through steroid use?

I tend to agree with you. It's a shame Barry Bonds can get into the hall of fame, but not Pete Rose.
Of course, the question must be asked about how many of the "old-timers" and people in the hall also used steroids?

Barry would be Cooperstown bound even if he didn't take Steroids.

Well, then shouldn't Shoeless Joe and the rest of the 1919 White Sox be in it? If Rose bet against his team, and made them lose for his personal gain, then I say keep him out. Intentionally throwing a game is way past dishonorable for me.

I don't think Shoeless Joe apologized for it.

How can you stay mad? I say put this in his display and let him in Cooperstown!

Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame. His career stats more than make up for it.

That ball should be placed right smack dab in the center of his display, though.
