if anyone's on right now, can you tell me the URL for puppet jam? I can't get it via the H*R site, for some reason it hasn't updated yet.

Not with the swf extension... tried the same thing with html on the end and got 404'd. Try again?

This short only exists as a .swf because of the embedded movie. Both links on the H*R site, from the main pages and from the toons menu, bring up this .swf file in a kind of pop up display. It does not have a .html extension.

You might want to try a "Ctrl+F5" hard refresh on the main page if you still aren't seeing the updates. Doing this will override what ever images and files are stored in your cache.

No, I decompiled the pages that contained the link to the short in order to find the filename.

And how do you do that?

I can get the updates now...

The problem with the link is that I get one of those "open with" things and I can't find anything on my computer that will open it. I looked in Flash, did a "find" for Flash and .exe, and found nothing. Strangely enough, it works from the H*R main page now, but not from your link in this thread and not from the link on the wiki page. Oh well!

DungeonGirl: Your browser should be able to open files with a .swf extension, I know Internet Explorer can. What operating system and browser do you use? It could just be that your "program defaults" are messed up.

StrongstarRunbad: I use a program called "Flash Decompiler" to decompile flash files.

The URL is Puppet Jam 1? As in, they will maybe do more of these? Hmmm...

My browser can open the .swf files from H*R's what's new bubble, but when I click on a link for it like in this thread or at the wiki, I get an "open with" box and I don't know what program to select. I'm using ComuServe 7.0 with Windows 98. Interestingly enough, this hasn't always been a problem... I know I've clicked on other .swf links on the wiki, like sbemails, and they came right up without an "open with" box.

CompuServe 7.0, huh? Do you have the latest Macromedia plugins? This link will take you to the correct page for downloading "Macromedia Flash Player Version 7,0,19,0" for Windows 98 and CompuServe 7.0.

The only thing I can say about the "Puppet Jam" clip (and the other puppet clips, and some of the Limozeen EasterEggs clips) that makes them different from other toons on H*R.com is that they are strictly video and sound in a .swf file. But I really don't know why you can't play them directly.

See if updating works...

You just need to set the appropriate associations in Windows. If you have Flash Player installed (the stand-alone one, not the browser plugin), you can associate .swf files with that, or you can just associate them with your favorite browser. In Windows 98 this is a little tricky -- IIRC, you have to click on a .swf file (once -- don't double-click), then wait a tick, then hold down shift and right-click on the file again and choose Open With... Then pick the app you want to associate it with and make sure the "Always use this program" box is check. That should do it.

Firstly: no swearing. Even the PG variety. The mods dunna like it.

Second: people stopped posting in this thread in May. MAY.

Third: Flaming is bad.
