Has anything strange, or mysterious ever happen to you? I can sometimes see the future, but not to my advantage, because I notice WHEN what I saw happens. I use to think that I could control wind, too.

That's happened to me too, being able to have visions of the future but not know it was a vision until it happened. Often it happens moments before the incident.

At an old house of mine, at the bottom of the stairs, there seemed to be something bizarre about that one spot, right before the stairs ended. I could jump off from like the third stair up, and it almost seemed like gravity slowed because it felt like I was floating.

I've also had numerous incidences where something supernatural was going on, like where I see something moving in the darkness but nothing's there. There are lots of beings in the spiritual realm and I know I've seen some.

People might think I'm insane for saying this (including people in my own synod), but I have actually encountered evil spirits. On at least three different occasions, they have attacked me while I was asleep and tried to kill me in my dreams. When they did, I became aware of it and resisted them. At that point, it was like I knew I was dreaming but was unable to wake up. Only when I call upon the Trinity was I able to wake up.

Yes, I am a clergyman, but my own faith tradition (Lutheran) is not usually given to miraculous signs. But these encounters were real. At least real enough to scare the heck out of me.

Well, one time I was making tea and the little glass thing for putting the teabags in disappeared. My sister had had it last and I asked her where she'd put it. She pointed to exactly the spot where I'd been looking and there it was. That was creepy, even if it was just an illusion (which it almost certainly was).

Oh, and once I was using the random number button on my calculator and I predicted that 789 would come up and it did. Not so much a paranormal premonition as a coincidence, though.

Hey cool stories.

I think that i have seen demons too; when I was a kid, anyway.

No demons lately. Which I am happy about.

At night when I walk down the street two or three street lights always go out. Its like I have an magnetic current coming from me. Also I can sometimes predict the fututre through wierd symbolic dreams.

The light thing happens all the time, GTC. Most city lights are on timers so they go on and off randomly. I don't know why, though.

They dont go out like a regulary light, they either burst or flicker off slowly, and the ones that flicker off come back on as soon as I leave the street.

That happens to me too. It's like the lights can sense you're there.

I had a bizarre experience. The heavily condensed version is a friend I have online had gone away for vacation, and I had no idea how long it'd be until he returned. It was perhaps a month later when I was playing my N64 and I suddenly felt something strange -- a very bizarre chill I never felt before or since. I knew instantly that he had arrived home, or signed online, or something, so I turned off the N64 (I didn't want to leave the game but I was absolutely certain what was happening and I really wanted to talk to him), rushed to my room, and signed online -- even though I wasn't allowed to at the time -- bam, there he was. He'd just gotten home.

I think the odds of this happening by chance are almost infinitesimal, all factors considered, although I'm willing to accept the possibility...but it has me mostly convinced that there's something more to the human mind than it lets on. I'm a skeptic as much as anyone, from a scientific standpoint, but from a personal standpoint it's a bit of a different story. Maybe I'm just naive, but...

Some weird stuff has happened to me too. That future-but-don't-realize-it thing always happens to me. Like Every day. Also, sometimes I get.. like.. overwhelmed at nothing. It's like everyone in the world is giving me their fear, stress, and other emotions. For no particular reason, I just don't know whether to laugh or cry, I don't know. That was happeneing as I wrote those last sentences, but I've eased up for now. Here it comes again.. I just lose control for about half a second, then I'm back to normal. Sometimes it happens quickly, other times it takes forever. Also, ever since some tragic moments in my life, I've started to feel sad for no reason. Brrr... Eventually, my mind seperates from my body, leaving my mind to rest while my body is in pseudo-zombie mode. That's happening now. 'man, I feel weird.

That's not unusual. There is some sort of telepathic bond in all humans to some extent. It's heard of all the time where somebody is thinking about someone right before they call, or knock on the door, or something, when the person wasn't expecting it. Everyone's had some sort of experience like this.

I dunno, man. I guarantee you that you'd have been freaked out if you were there. I sure as Heck was. It wasn't just thinking of somebody, I mean...meh, it's impossible to articulate :P

This isn't supernatural, Kupo, it's psychological. Talk to your parents, get some counseling, maybe a psychiatrist.

Actually, I was half-asleep when I wrote that. :p

Just to nitpick over semantics, the chances of that happening are not "almost infinitesimal". It's impossible for anything to be near-infinitesimal or near-infinite, as that would imply that infinity had a fixed value, which of course, it doesn't.

Although I do agree that it's very unlikely. :p

You can thwart nitpickers like Upsilon by saying "practically infinitesimal" instead.

And I'll nitpick on you by noting your misspelling of "infinitesimal". ;)

And both of you know that common English is losing absolutes. Things can be nearly infinite (though of course not mathematically) just as they can be almost unique, half-true, and other phrases that grate on English teachers' nerves just because they have nothing better to do than think they're always right (and grade your papers accordingly).

Sounds like one I heard recently:

Some Website wrote:
Word Choice: New Uses, Common Confusion, and Constraints

"deceptively"

Would you dive into a pool that is deceptively shallow? The question gives one pause. When deceptively is used to modify an adjective, the meaning is often unclear. Is the pool shallower or deeper than it appears to be? We asked the Usage Panel to decide. Fifty percent thought the pool is shallower than it appears. Thirty-two percent thought the pool deeper than it appears. And 18 percent said it was impossible to decide. Thus a warning notice worded in such a way would be misinterpreted by many of the people who read it, and others would be uncertain as to which sense was intended. When using deceptively with an adjective, be sure the context leaves no room for doubt. An easy way to remedy the situation is to rewrite the sentence without deceptively: The pool is shallower than it looks or The pool is shallow, despite its appearance.

Isn't that interesting?

That is interesting, Tom. I'd say that the pool is shallower than it appears. If you changed the phrase to "the pool looks deceptively shallow", then I'd reverse it.

And kef, I thought you spelled infinitesimal wrong, and then thought about looking it up, and then decided against it. Alas, I was the wrong one.

Fortunately, the Edit button makes revisionist historianism easy.

Tom - and you're the one who, probably more than anybody else, urges us to stay on topic. :P

Though with "deceptively", I personally think a pool that is "deceptively shallow" is shallower than it looks, because it is clearly shallow (for it to be _____ shallow it must first be shallow, excluding words like "not" that could go in the blank), just deceptively so, suggesting that it looks otherwise. I wouldn't say the phrase is ambiguous, but I agree that it's confusing.

Though, I think the phrase "almost infinitesimal" is neither confusing nor ambiguous, just mathematically incorrect.

Precicely what I thought.

Well, really the English language is full of strange occurrances, so I figure it's on topic. :|

"Sick" isn't really the feeling that overcomes me. But then, I don't watch Buffy. But that girl can, um.. take me to the prom anytime.

What?! That girl is adorable! I'd take her over Sarah Michelle Gellar any day. Mrow.

And please, no discussion of the circumstances of the flute incident. It's not appropriate for this forum.

You could pull that off since you've posted that you were in the army.
