Episodes for The Simpsons were made over the summer, because each episode takes weeks to make, so there's no way they can make an episode in one week. It was just a strange coinceidence (I know I spelled it wrong), that's all.

I was in no way implying I thought it had anything to do with the sbemail. I just thought it was neat.

EDIT: And even if they were referencing SB (which I seriously doubt they were) it would have been possible. The fangly fish was in the opening sequence where they all sit down on the couch... it was a 5 second animation and did not play into the episode plot at all. They could have made it overnight. Again, I doubt this is the case and was not implying this.

I saw that as well! In fact, I noticed that, and was about to make a topic on it, but oh well. By the way, the episode is FABF21, "Fat Man and Little Boy", and the name of the "Fangly fish" is a Lanterneye Fish, though I couldn't find any pictures of the couch gag.

I don't think that episode has aired in Australia yet but I have a picture. Image

I can kinda see what you're saying about the fish, but now all it needs is a back deck for dinner and dancing.

Hmm.. no x-mas lights. Those type of fish really do exist, so it's not close enough for me to believe it.. that's like saying that Finding Nemo bit off of TBC as well.

although i did not see this episode :(
It apears that it looks like its in the theme song that the fish apears?
if this is true, it only takes a matter of a few hours to make that scene.
plus it would make sense since the almighty creator of the simpsons is a huge fan of the almighty http://www.homstarrunner.com, and has also been seen wearing a strong bad shirt.

cool eh? :ehsteve:

Believe what?? *Nobody* in this entire thread has implied that the Simpsons "bit off" of TBC. I simply said "look, a fangly fish is on the Simpsons... cool!"

But if someone were to suggest that, I wouldn't rule it out. Yes, they are real creatures, but I've never seen one on the Simpsons in 300+ previous episodes, nor have I seen one anywhere that is dangling a living thing from its dangly thing (Homestar's head or the Simpsons family).

Err.. then again, I've never seen Flanders being tortured on a couch gag before, but it's on one. It definitely wasn't "stolen" from tBC, since of course the episodes are made in the summer, and not every single week.

Well, it is glowing (I think). Maybe the lights are on the back?

Anyone have a picture of and actual deep sea fangly fish for us to compare to?

Ah, MPJ? you spelt the "almighty http://www.homestarrunner.com" wrong.

It doesn't look anything like Strong Bad's fish. It's just a coincidence. Has anyone here ever heard of a coincidence? They happen all the time.

It's been pointed out twice already that this was in the "couch gag" which could easily be written in a week.

Yup, that was kind of the point of my post...

But I was immediately replied to with "THE TWO HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER!!" And then made fun of in another thread. Friendly forum.

And the point of my post was that we don't have to go creating new topics everytime a coincidence occurs.

We don't _have_ to make new topics about anything. For that matter, we don't have to watch cartoons. I saw something that amused me, I posted about it. If you don't think it's a worthwhile post, don't read it.

It's very worthwile. It's had a great outcome. Fangly fishes are tricky. They've been getting some grood publicity lately.

Well, at least someone understood that thread.

There was a dangler fish in Finding Nemo. The Simpsons probably got it off of that, unless they're smart enough about fish they can do their own material ;) .

Yes, I think it's incredibly improbable that anyone on The Simpsons writing team has ever heard of an anglerfish. Especially if they live on, say, Mars.

I'm not saying they did it because of that, but it definently could of, and has been in the past, a last minute thing. I remember some interview on one of the Simpsons DVDs, where somehow they insulted New Orleans, so for the next episode (Within a week) they changed what Bart wrote on the chalkboard to "I will not defame New Orleans", or something like that, as a kind of humorous damage control. So they could definently have done it as a last minute thing, but I don't think they did.

Yes, I know it's possible. It's just astronomically unlikely.

Guess what? There's a couch on both HSR and the Simpsons as well! WOW WHAT A COINCIDENCE.

A little exaggerated, but you see my point?

That first episode you mentioned would be "A Streetcar Named Marge".

What topic was The111 made fun of in?
