Think about it. With all of their different catagories, it's gotta be hard sometimes to catagorize a toon. Take this toon for example. It's a holiday, (Labour Dabour), but it's also Puppet Style, and even Powered by the cheat. So which is it? Or what if the next holiday toon is Powered by the Cheat? Which would it go under? I dunno, It just gets all a bit complicated... Any thoughts, or does nobody care?

I'd assume that if it's mainly done with puppets, it gets put in Puppet Style no matter what.

haven't you checked? labor day is in the holiday section.

I checked the day it came out, it's clearly in Puppet Stuff.

This is an interesting question...

The way that I'd figure they do it goes like this. If its a Powered By The Cheat Christmas/Decemberween thing, its first and foremost a Holiday toon. If its a toon starting out as a short (lets say its 3 minutes total) and has really short snippets of Old Timey, it's still primarily a short.

Well, first off, I think it has to do with how long the toon is exactly. That's how they decide whether it belongs as a Short or a Big Toon. Puppet Things are bit more difficult, though.

Or sometimes if it's solely Old Timey, like say Parsnips A-Plenty, that can be a Big Toon, too.

But some of the Short Toons are longer than some of the Big Toons. That part doesn't make sense to me. I think Puppet Stuff and PBTC toons are categorized because they have a definitive look to them that's seperate from the standard toon development--Puppet Stuff is "live action," and PBTC is shoddy-looking animation.

I'm guessing they do whatever they want when it comes to categorizing and speculation is useless.

I think they go by how long it is compared to what stuff they've been coming out with. For example, Yello Dello was one of the longest things on the site back in its day. Some of their newer stuff is longer, but compared to most of the site now it's short.

1. The length doesn't determine a short. There have been shorts longer then big toons. Big Toons just have a story.

2. Why on earth was this thread brought back?

Looks like Dewy thought it was an interesting question.

Anyway, I've noticed that shorts tend to feature Homestar and Strong Bad doing stuff more than the big toons, which also include other characters and a plot.
