Apples and oranges, but I guess that I like Super Smash Bros. Brawl better. Halo 3 is a pretty good game though, I just don't get to play my step dad's Xbox too often, so I mainly just watch games being played on it.

I've never played either of them, but I intend to buy Brawl when it comes out here. I have no interest in Halo 3.

I think you're new here. If you weren't, you'd know this forum is full of Nintendo fanboys.

I was going to say something here, but that might've started a flame war with a huge defeat on my part.

You don't have to be a fanboy to like Nintendo.

I was going to say something in regards to this, I mean:

Also, I know you don't have to be a fanboy to like Nintendo, but so many people here worship Nintendo, and just flat-out despise Xbox or Halo.

Actually, yes I do. I can't remember all the times I've heard "halosux" or anything similar to it on this forum. Also, the amount of people voting on Smash is staggering. What console, pray tell, won the "Battle of the Consoles" poll on the HRWF? "DS vs PSP" poll? "Which game company" poll? The denial that a large percentage of this forum are Nintendo fanatics is a poorly educated statement in lieu of this evidence; which, mind you, I pulled off of the top of my head.

Oh, and one look at the first page in the Off subject forum(at the time of this post) yields four threads related to Nintendo, and one that could go to 360, PC, or PS3(Orange Box).

People vote for nintendo on this forum because they like nintendo more, it's because Nintendo is JUST BETTER. I know people who aren't nintendo fanatics that like brawl better than halo 3. There's just so much more to brawl.

I'm going to have to say apples and oranges on this one. H3's a fps and SSBB's a fighter, and more of a unique one at that, it's very difficult to qualitatively figure out "which one's better". I like them both for what they offer. However, that being said, I'm way better at Brawl, so I tend to lean that way. Even more so, there are times where I don't want brawl and instead I want to play halo. They offer two different experiences that satisfy two completely different gaming tastes, and to play one in search of fulfilling the other just leaves you wanting.

Now, on the subject of Fanboyishness, I'm going to lay the smack down and say that yes, there are a lot of fans of Nintendo here as well as a lot of fanboys. You can say all you want how polls and threads show a large amount of fanboyishness, but this actually shows us quite the contrary. If you go in and read them, the reactions to everything are pretty calm, sometimes even split. If there truly were a lot of fanboys, would you not see a ton of ranting and raving? But those don't pop up anywhere. Instead, they're more casual "Hey, I like wii, so that's cool" type responses.

This forum used to be honestly full of fanboys, but that's because a lot of the members here are old enough to remember the days when the big players were only Nintendo and Sega, and the favorite choice of our time was the former. We've held onto those old favorites to today, where we still prefer them over the other systems, but we've also learned to enjoy other systems on top of that. Just look at the console polls. There was some serious gunning for non-nintendo platforms in several of the rounds. Would this have happened in a forum filled with fanboys? I wouldn't think so.

Liking something doesn't make one a fanboy. Sure it's the first requirement, but if it's the only one, then call me a fanboy of naps, or cheetos, or my wireless mouse. Now that that's twut'd and sufficiently tl;dr, let's keep talking.

Ido, good points all around. Like I said, I don't use fanboy here as a derogatory title. Some fanboys are good people. Some are just terrible. Example:

I know. I said that already.

That's your opinion.

I pm'd you about this one.

My first console was a SNES, then a SEGA Genesis, with my favorite being the SNES. Back then, my mom actually played games with me. I miss those days. Later, I got a Playstation, then an Xbox. My Xbox died (my fault), so I was without vidya games for a little while. I got a Wii, then with all the money I got on my last birthday I was able to afford a used 360 Core. I sold some stuff to buy the hard drive, and then saved up for Halo 3's release. Got it on day one.

Point is, I grew up with Nintendo and SONY, but I still prefer Xbox.

I don't remember seeing stuff like this. Example.

I've got no problem with Halo, it's pretty fun, I just don't like FPSs so much and I'm not very good at them (making me like them even a bit less) So Smash definitely gets my vote.

I was just stating facts.
Halo has nothing special about it, it is a shooter, you shoot...with guns... it plays just like every other shooter, the only reason that it is popular is because it was the first really popular online shooting game.

Smash on the other hand doesn't play like any other fighting game out there, even in the simple sense of how you have to knock them off the stage, instead of taking down the damage meter. Among many other things.

And I'm not a fanboy in any sense, so…don't assume.

*sigh* Fine, I'll get started.

The way you're saying it, Half-life, Metroid Prime, Resistance, Gears, and any other FPS are all the same. That's not true. They all have different content.

Environments(Campaign)
The environments that Bungie has created are extremely beautiful, in my opinion. You can see huge expanses with mountain ranges, forests, or canyons, depending on your current location, be it on earth, on a gigantic shield world, or on a Halo itself. Level of detail is also magnificent. There are minute scratches and bumps everywhere. Almost any detail that should be there, is.

Weapons(Campaign)
The weapons are all theoretically possible, but not at this time. For example, the plasma weapon systems utilized by the Covenant are controlled my manipulating magnetic fields. Scientists are doing this right now. They are shaping plasma with magnetic fields, but the equipment is huge. However, this is 2008, whereas the game takes place in 2552, and we're not even the ones utilizing it. The enemy is.

Gameplay
The control system was very new at the time of Halo: Combat Evolved. Quick melee, and grenades at the tap of a button instead of having to switch through multiple weapons and equipment. It's kept this scheme, because it works. In fact, several shooters have adopted some parts of that scheme. You're limited to carrying two weapons at a time, which is more realistic than hauling around an entire armory along with you. It also allows the players to think with more strategy. Meaning, "Sure, that rocket launcher's a good weapon, but how good is it going to be in close range?" Dual wielding, while I'm sure is often used to defend Halo, was actually started with a Bungie game. Marathon featured dual wielding. To be fair, another game released at the exact same date also featured dual wielding. "Rise of the Triad". Vehicles, which were not exactly prominent in FPSs at the time of Halo: CE, are much more controllable in the Halo series than in other FPSs, in my opinion.

Customizability, File Sharing, and DLC
Halo allows players to do a whole lot of stuff, from gametypes, to map variants, to screenshots and video clips. Whats more, you can share these with other people. Armor can be customized to your liking, with different colors, logos, and armor pieces. Multiplayer environments come in different shapes and sizes, and can be further changed in the Forge. Spawn points, weapon and equipment placements, scenery, vehicles, and objectives can all be modified in the Forge. Brand new maps are being released as downloadable content, which just adds more to an already feature-rich game.

Weapons & Equipment(cont.)There are many weapons to choose from, given the players style. Sure there's the standard rifles and rockets, but there's also the plasma pistol's charge shot, which can disable shields and vehicles. The needler, which fires homing crystal shards, and of course, the gravity hammer. Equipment is also usable in Campaign and Multiplayer. Bubble shields, flares, energy drainers, it's all there. Power-ups can be placed, and can be customized to better suit a map.

Multiplayer
Multiplayer is deep, but not too complicated, and allows up to 16 people to go on any environment you choose, with any rules you choose. What's more, you can communicate with people in-game with voice chat.

With all of this packed into one disc, except the additional maps, I think it is much different than other FPSs.

This can all come off as an advertisement, and I apologize for that. I'm not trying to sell the game, just listing stuff that comes to mind.

Hey Gunluva, if you want people to read that paragraph, you should probably break it up a bit. Most people would just skim a block paragraph that size.

For overall multiplayer quality, I'd have to give it to Halo 3. The online system flows much more easily, and it requires more skill and precision.

And considering Brawl's entire focus is on multiplayer, that means Halo 3 takes the cup.

No.

Brawl is an offline multiplayer. Halo 3 is an online multiplayer. Two totally different beings.

If you're actually basing Brawl's quality on its online multiplayer, then you are a sad, strange little man.

...Brawl has online. You can't just completely ignore that facet of its multiplayer.

And even without online, can you play with up to 16 people in one game with a Brawl "party?" Can you customize game options to the extent of Halo 3? CAN YOU FREAKING INCINERATE AN UNSUSPECTING PLAYER???

... :eekdance:

That's what I just said. Brawl's not an online game, Halo is. It HAS online, but it's not mean to be an online game, it's meant to be a game that is played with people in the same room.

Like people have said before, apples and oranges. You're saying that it's not as customizable as Halo. Well, I would say that it is. To control all the items that fall, to control the modes, to control the environment. Yes, I think it is as customizable.

You're comparing two completely different games.

-Iron (death makes you start over at the beginning)
-Black Eye (melee is the only way your shield recharges)
-Tough Luck (enemy grenades are more accurate)
-Catch (enemies throw grenades more often & drop grenades more often after death)
-Fog (disables motion tracker)
-Famine (ammo is scarce)
-Thunderstorm (all enemies are promoted. Example, enemy was private, now major)
-Tilt (enemies are immune to headshots)
-Mythic (enemy HP is increased)
-Blind (HUD removed)
-Cowbell (explosions have greater force)
-Grunt Birthday Party (headshot on a grunt expels confetti and children scream "yay!")
-IWHBYD (unlocks dialogue spoken by units. Example, a marine will say "THIS IS SPARTA" when he wouldn't if the skull were disabled)

FYI, it took me about 45 minutes to type all this. Does Brawl honestly have this level of customizability?

Half of those things don't matter to me. So, personally? Yes, it does.

All shooter games have some level of customization, Halo just has more of the same.

Samsh, however has ways to customize the game like no other fighter has.
