TFE: I edited my post while you were replying. Check out the words I added after "Prove it"... unfortunately, the link you provided seems to fall into "doesn't have a clue" territory. You cannot simply take a translation, read every word literally, and take it upon blind faith that it accurately represents what was originally written, let alone that what was originally written accurately represents God's point of view. Since the link quotes Bible passages that were translated into English, and with no annotations at all, I don't think they are terribly useful except as a starting point.

Christianity's standpoint is that the Bible is the Word of God, and God's divinity is in there, even in the translations from the original tongue.

But that's silly. I could make a "translation" of the Bible, randomly altering words as I saw fit. "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the banana." Would that still reflect God's divinity?

It'd have to go through the Official Acceptance. - If the Church let that translation go through, then obviously they've got a screw loose. (But since they probably wouldn't, that point isn't really valid.)

http://www.holy-trinity.org/liturgics/nrsv.html - For the curious, here's an interesting article on the finer points of the English translations. (Homosexuality is not a part of the critique)

On the note of translations, I used to think people like Didymus were being snobby when they said you have to read the greek or hebrew versions to get the real meaning, but the more versions of the Bible I acquire, the more I can see that, in fact, they are right. I have several versions that change the meaning of entire chapters with their differences.

Yup.
But overall, will those translations get dug into? i.e. Will they try it all over again? Will that mean anything for homosexuals? ... Probably not, but time will tell.

Nature? I don't know, I haven't seen many gay animals lately.
Maybe you could elaborate.

Jimmie wrote:

To everyone who opposed this statement: Ok, maybe there is a genetic predisposition some people have toward homosexuality, maybe there isn't. But in regards to Christianity this is a moot point.

Some people may have desires towards the same sex, while most people (traditionally at least) have desires toward the opposite sex. But the bible says that acting on any of these desires is wrong. Having sex with any person you are not married to is called adultery and is strictly forbidden in the bible.
So no matter what people's genes are telling them to think, it's how they act that counts.

So what about gay marriage, you may ask. Well, God also says that marriage is a sacred vow between a MAN and a
WOMAN. Also that a MAN should leave his parents and be united with his WIFE.

No, gay marriage isn't strictly forbidden, but it is implied that marriage should always be between a man and a woman. The ancient Jews probably never even thought two people of the same sex would try it.

Are you kidding me? There are entire books on the subject.
In fact, I have a tome that's like, 9000 pages of the mating habits of homosexual animals.
Were you TRULY not aware of the existence of homosexuality in nature?

No. Adultery is not the act of sex out-of-wedlock.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/adultery
voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and someone other than his or her lawful spouse.

The marriage thing is moot anyway, considering homos can get married in different countries and TWO states now, so the argument that you can't have sex when you aren't married anyway wouldn't work for homos anymore because they CAN.

I thought of that word, but it didn't quite cover the concept I was looking for. Arrogance typically has a connotation of boastfulness, which isn't what I'm looking for. I was looking for a word that emphasized the aspect of misguided thinking.

Presumptuous! That's a good one.

Hey New Yorkers! (courant.com news article)
Sum up: New York state will recognize gay marriages legally performed in other states and countries, according to a memo from the counsel to Gov. David Paterson, the governor's spokeswoman said Wednesday.

What do you think? Should the Legislature just give in and legalize everything? Or do you think this is just going to end up as something sticky?

Being a native New Yorker I think we should do this. I'd like to see it happen. It would be a nice step forward.

^Ha.

I think it's a good step forward and edges us closer to practicing gay marriage here in NY.

I don't like baseball at all. If I had to pick a team as my favorite it'd probably be...the Indians or something.

I don't think I need it, or would really pay attention anyway. Some of my best friends are furries, so you can't look at me to be crucified.(Not saying that you are, but...)
