Do you call it soda, pop, coke, or soft drink?
If you call it something else, you're weird, and don't vote.

You're all insane.

The proper name is "soft drinks". No-one I know outside of the internet ever calls them anything else.

Yeah, soft drinks.

But if I had to choose between the three, soda.

I used to call it "pop" most of the time, but now I usually call it "soda".

Oh, look at me, I like to overly complicate things with extra letters and make four letter words two words!

I think this is the third time I've posted this, and this is probably the third time this thread's existed.

Soda.

I've added "Soft drinks" to the poll even though calling it that is stupid. So everyone re-vote.

My opinion:

I know this is way off-topic but it reminded me of this: wtf is Ohio doing in "mid-west", if anything that's "Mid-east".

And the "South" is really just the "southeast". (That actually confused some Canadian friends of mine. They all say "pop" by the way. And "washroom" instead of bathroom. And that "aboot" thing is a half-truth.)

It's soda. Though just two counties away in Rochester, they say "pop." Friggin' morons.

It looks like more than it is because most of the area that uses "pop" is kinda sparsely populated. If the US were distorted so that everywhere had even population density it'd look something like this (ignore the colors, that was the only appropriate picture I could find).

See, even Inverse's graph knows that soft drinks is the proper name.
The other names for them are just nicknames in certain areas.

I suppose "soft drink" is the correct name, but is not typically used around here in informal conversation.

Lookit that map. I'm in the center of a small refuge of soda-sayers among pophooligans and cokemongrels. Over thurr in St. Louis.

Soft Drink is retarded.
Soda has too many syllables.
Coke is a type of carbonated beverage. Not a blanket term.
Therefore, Pop.

Any British or Irish forumers? What you say?

"Soft drink" would never come out of someone's mouth in North America tho. It says soft drink on menus and stuff so multinational businesses can stay neutral to the regional differences, but no one would ever SAY "soft drink", or even write it unless they're a lawyer writing some kind of weird contract that somehow includes fizzy drinks. If you said "soft drink" round here, you'd sound like you were talking in legalese, like saying "apparatus for the engraving of optical discs" instead of "DVD burner"

Yeah, that's weird. Of course, some of those counties probably only have 2 people in them anyway. That's gotta screw with the stats.

Okay, this is a bit off topic, but does anyone remember who that one guy was, that was always angry that we always assumed everyone here was american, even though we didn't?

Oh, and @ Ninti: deal with it :)
