Can you say, MIND BLOWN?

EDIT: Thanks to whoever put it up on the wiki, I'm not good at that sort of thing.

O...M...G.

Best toon of '09. This already wins on so many levels.

10/5

They took my advice an added a terminal! Actually, it seems as though they have taken everything we have said on the forum in the last month and gone dunit.
5/5
(This may be as close to sbemail 201 as we get.)

Great jorb! I wonder if they're serious about sbemailiarizing other toons. If so, this might mean Last Stand and Jumping Jack might be put back on the site!

Yet again, not as funny as I would have expected or liked. Brilliant idea, sure, but I'm not sure it's funny enough, hasn't pulled off as much as it could. But OMG, an actual site appearance of TBC as TBC? Brilliant. I forgot how funny Mike is.
I dunno, I feel the last three Big Toons have been nowhere near as good as the other toons this year. *shrug*
But they've absolutely demolished the 4th wall with this one. For once that feels like a bad thing. *shrug again* Not worth the two week wait.

It seems pretty clear that they're joking.

Anyway, that was one of the best things ever. It's not quite as awesomely awesome as my favourite toons, fan club and Date Nite, but I think it's in third place.

I've been thinking what this toon says for a while, actually. There's no real difference between a normal toon and a Strong Bad Email other than the Strong Bad framing segment. But I think people like the interactivity. And I like getting to see as much Strong Bad as possible. He always makes me laugh.

The live action segment took me by surprise. But it was awesome. "I can't wait to stop working- I mean start working. On them."

Were they making fun of themselves or of the fans? I couldn't tell.

This is toon is basically a summary of what I said last week in the Kick-a-Ball thread.
Spellman wrote:
Strong Bad Emails will come back. Fans of the site (outside of anyone obsessed enough with the site to go on a forum and Wiki related to it) love to see content injected by fans, in this case being emails from fans. Strong Bad may be the character that has had the most screen time on Homestar Runner, but he's also comes across as the straight man in a universe where everyone else either has an poor grasp on the English language or an accent so thick that you can't understand it anyways, or are extremely eccentric. That kind of contrast is necessary to make most HR toons coherent. SB almost narrates their ridiculousness. The other characters are likable, but SB definitely has the best screen presence. I'm a bit of a Coach Z fan myself, but I know that his humor is best injected in small doses.

So to quote Strong Bad, "I'm Strong Bad, and you *still* don't know it yet, but I'm the reason you're here."
The difference between a toon and a Strong Bad email, is that he is there to tell us why it's funny. ^^

I would have said their fans, but now that you mention it, maybe a little of both?

I can't help but think that the deliberate 'this is fake or is it or isn't it' vibe of this toon has something to do with an event planned for the holiday due to occur two days from now.

Edit: Got around to watching the whole thing, and it turned out to be a lot funnier and a lot less mean that I thought it would be. I'm now genuinely hoping for a bunch of SBE-hashes on April 1.

I think TBC are trying to start a discussion whether or not to bring sbemail back. They are probabling feeling too restricted having to 'sbemailiarize' a cartoon every week.
Though I'd love to see sbemails back again, even though every cartoon starts and ends the same.

It's not showing up on H*R for me. Is it a secret page?

Try doing a hard refresh by pressing ctrl+F5. That might work.

A good idea and perhaps a hint that they plan to release more straight cartoons (like 'Kick a ball') without needing to wrap them up in a sbemails.

Hey, that worked! I went to the site on a new window, and it still didn't show up until I did that. What's the difference between a refresh and a hard refresh?

It still doesn't show up on the big toons menu for me, just the new stuff.

I don't see there being any more of this particular kind of cartoon, nor do I see there being any new sbemails.

Seems like this was just a playful mindblow.

I believe you're a couple days early to April Fool's, O Brother Chaps. :P

Actually, that's kinda a good point. Maybe, then, it's a combination of an April Fool's gag and the Brothers Chaps trying to tell Sbemail missers that the cartoons don't need to be Sbemail-wrapped.

Hey, what's the deal with the computer SB was using for the Drive-Thru clip?

Uh-oh. Could this be forboding the return of Strong Bad Emails?

I finnally got to make it! :-D

I don't really know why, but I loved this toon. It was so random, and yet for some reason it actually made sense. I can't really explain it. Anywho, I give it a 5/5.

See Shandy? Now it's social satire and not just some weird crap that you watch. (<-- Best quote after Mike's Stop/start working line)

Ho-lee crap. This is one of my favorite toons ever. EVER. Because it makes fun of so many things. AHHH. :>
My mind was blown when TBC appeared. I almost had to do a double take.
I screen capped the ever loving crap out of that scene.

Except SB left out a critical difference between emails and regular 'toons: TBC can look to the fans for inspiration instead of figuring out a starting point themselves. But then, in that one interview they did say they'd been taking the approach of "We want to do an email about X, so we look for incoming emails that look like they would fit" lately, so maybe that's not really an issue.

I love this. It's like a reducto ad absurdum on the whole idea of bothering to make Strong Bad Emails instead of just 'toons.

Ironically, the whale example DOES work a lot better as an email.

First we get HREmails, and now Strong Bad satirizing his own email-answering feature. I really like how TBC are delivering these twists on the SBEmail format, instead of just plugging different content into the same 200-emails-old formula.

Not that the SBEmail formula can't be funny! But stuff like this delivers humor and freshness. Four outta five, yo.
