Your post made me realize that this hremail realy was one big Ret Con, so I put a section on this hremail on TV Tropes: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RetCon (scroll down to category Web Animation).

Anyway, this made me lol really hard. All the references to present-day H*R, the Un Reveal about How Do You Type With Boxing Gloves On, and the origins of Homestar's obsession with melonade. A nonstop lolfest, and the best Hremail yet! (Or rather, the first and best hremail!)

When TBC make fun of themselves, hilarity ensues. I haven't been able to watch this Hremail with sound yet, and I still gave it a coveted 5/5! The transcript alone made me laugh out loud.

I read it. I went: WOW. I watched it. I went: HOLY CRAP.

This. was. Spectacular. Although I feel a little bad for Strong Bad's...erm...somewhat low mentality about the internet....Kinda makes me feel sorry for him.

But Strong Sad was absolutely hysterical.

5/5

Oh, that's great! All the "future" references are so clever! I love it! Plus, the use of old voice techniques is a nice touch!
5'd!

This toon is definitely the best one of the year, and one of my new personal favorites.

I loved hearing Strong Sad imitate the sound made when signing on to the internet using Dial-up, mostly because I often imitate it myself.

Also, I liked seeing Strong Bad find Homestar's old computer and think it was "top of the line". I always thought Strong Bad got the Tandy because he just liked using old technology.

Alright, bumping it from 2/5 to 4/5 after a second viewing.

And now, it is obivous how Strong Bad types with boxing gloves..."smart thinking". You too can type with boxing gloves just by thinking about typing with boxing gloves! Try it today!

Loved Homestar's creepy eyes when his esophagus was being dried out!
Overall, great cartoon! TBC is really kicking it up a notch this year.

I dunno..... it didn't really do that much for me. I mean, I got most of the references to the future, and I've seen the toons and jokes that it refers to but..... I dunno, maybe I'd find it funnier if I'd been watching the site, toons, and characters evolve over the years, instead of seeing it all in a few months.

This just blew my mind. And not in a good way. This defiantly throws off the HREmail/SBEmail history all the way to the moon. The Cheat taught Strong Bad how to type with boxing gloves? Homestar is smarter than Strong Bad technological? Homestar doesn't like Strong Sad? Abdi was in on the first SBEmail? I need to take a break before my mind explodes again.

Oh right! The rating! I give it 4 out of 5.

(explosion sound)

Oh crap...

A freind of mine told me this would shatter my view on reality... and that was almost exactly what I expected.

But! Great stuff! Great inside references! And great beverage flavows! I mean, flavors...

4/5

Whoa. Looks like Homestar sure taught Strong Bad to steal his email thunder!

Like, literally. He actually taught him to do it.

EDIT: Yanow, this actually makes sense. Explains why Homestar's fan-mail feature is so much more traditional and high-production-values and Strong Bad is just a camera pointed at the back of his head at the computer.

Also I love the color scheme on his wall.

Wow, you all loved it that much? D:
I thought it was a little blah. Homestar's gotten stupider over the years, so here he kind of has a normal intelligence level, so you don't get the same kind of humor out of him....I dunno. I didn't like it too much.

To me this was like lady...ing: It's got zero value for the average viewer. I prefer cases in which a cartoon is made of new material, with maybe a reference or two slipped in here or there, but not hitting you over the head. For instance, Coach Z's 110% had little nods to Team Kneepads from "the paper," but that was not the focus of the toon, that was a little extra bonus. The Baloneyman had an idea from Weclome Back and an almost-quote from "couch patch," but those weren't the jokes. There's almost nothing in this email that has any comedic value to anyone not familiar with the state of the website 8 years ago, and despite following the site almost that long, I still don't think there was much payoff.

So another words,

That was sheer brilliance.

Yes, it was definitely one for long-time fans of the site, but I don't have a problem with that. There was a time when I was brand new to the site and didn't really know what everything was, but I just started watching all the 'toons in order and got caught up quickly. Then when I re-watched them, I appreciated most of them even more. Someone unfamiliar with the site would surely be puzzled by HRemail #7, but in a few months when they watch it again, I expect they'll roar with laughter like I did.

The HRemail numbering scheme is pretty clear now, too. That and the content of this 'toon lends credence to Homestar's assertion in SBemail #200 that he's been answering emails "since forever". And apparently he's answered at least ten times as many as Strong Bad has. ;)

There are so many reasons to love this one (most if not all of which have already been mentioned) and only one minor reason not to (I, too, was a bit disturbed by the "F" lip-sync).

Now I need to find some of that Taco Annihilation and Sizzlin' Bacon Guava Quench melonade. :)

Final score: Easily a 5/5.

There was a lot of great stuff here, as people have said. I do particularly like the explanation of why Strong Bad's email address is on Homestar's domain. And he's still using it. Probably has been using Homestar's storage and bandwidth too. Very Strong Bad, taking something that he initially would find insulting or embarrassing and turning it into him taking advantage of someone, and thus being proud of it.

I was personally disappointed that the characters sounded more modern though, instead of their old accents. It hurts the illusion that it's something dug out of the archives that we just haven't seen, makes it hard to ignore the knowledge that it was just created recently to tie things together. And to mock the people begging for more Sbemails.

Took the words out of my mouth. Sneaky, those TBC!

Really... really... no.
This one really didn't do anything for me. Not a whole load of laughs, since the whole thing was full of inside jokes. I thought the bathing in Melonade thing was good, but it didn't make up for the fact that there was too many inside jokes and that the old voices weren't used.

Possibly my favorite of 2009. I love how they used the original loading screen and character designs. The only thing I kinda hate is that Strong Bad sounds too much like his new self, but I still loved how Homestar got all creepy after trying the Throat Closer and Strong Sad impersonating Dial Up.

I can't believe I just realised the pun on how he says "people think Melonade comes in but one flavor" and then there is a "Butt One Flavor" Melonade. :bubs:
