I would totally enjoy a toon in which he does so.

While we're at it, there is a mistake in the German character versions that I wanted to correct for quite some time now, but didn't have the heart to. Yep, sorry, user Heimstern Läufer. :-(
Actually, the correct German word for it would be Heimatstern (as in comparison to Heimatplanet, Heimatland, etc).
Let me try to explain:
"Heim" means home, but estate-wise. The house where you live is your Heim, and if you have kids and give them away, they also will be taken to a Heim.
"Heimat" means home, the place. So the town, the land, etc. where you live, that's your Heimat (or, for that point, your Heimatstadt and your Heimatland).
So even though the "star" in Homestar's name refers to the star on his shirt, the ambiguity of his name could only be translated by going with Heimatstern. (Sorry for bothering you. I'll shut up now. )

I'm not really sure it makes a difference, since "Homestar Runner" isn't really supposed to make sense taken literally. Since it was originally a meaningless mangling of baseball terms, I guess the best translation would be whatever word for "home" is used to translate "home run". But I imagine baseball isn't very popular in German, so on the off chance somebody is talking about baseball in German it might be that they don't even translate it.

Eh, it was always meant as a general translation. Not as anything perfectly close. Regardless of the correctness of "Heimatstern", "Heimstern" just rolls off the tongue better, so I've always gone with that one. Mind you, I don't even think of it as a German translation of Homestar's name anymore; I think of it as a name I use on the internet. So it's no bother.

Actually, wouldn't it be Heimatsstern, 'cause it would mean Stern des Heimats, which is in the Genitive case? I'm not entirely sure since it's not a real word in english, so I'm not sure how german grammar applies ^_^"

Red part: No. The s is pretty much a filler to use where words would be hard to pronounce without it. There's not really any logical rule for where it is to be used or not, but most words are written without it. And more often you would use a plural form than an s. E.g. you write "Katzenfutter" (cat food, or literally cats food, because it's food for cats) instead of "Katzefutter" or "Katzesfutter". Or, as mentioned before, you write "Heimatland" and "Heimatplanet" both without an s. Also...
Blue part: "Heimat" is female in German, so if anything at all, it would be "Stern der Heimat" ("die Heimat" in genitive form). But "Stern der Heimat" does not have the same meaning as "Heimatstern". A "Heimatstern" would be (if it were possible) the star on which you live. A "Stern der Heimat" would most probably be a poetic expression (as the use of Arwen evenstar in Lord of the Rings), or else would describe any star seen from wherever you live.

Ok, my bad. I actually noticed the blue part just after I posted it  I guess it just sounded right in my head so I was trying to justify it. Sorry.

No, you didn't do anything. I was just explaining things, I didn't mean to discourage you.
German is pretty hard to learn (or so I've heard), especially since even Germans don't seem to speak it anymore. (Okay, that's a bit exaggerated, but it's a fact that a LOT of Germans of all ages appear to have immense troubles with their grammar and spelling. Very often I hear people talk- or rather TRY to talk- in a mixture of German and English, with very limited vocabulary in both languages.)

No, it's not that, but I've been speaking it fleuantly for the past ten or so years, so a mistake like that is a bit embarassing. Doesn't matter though. Everyone makes mistakes ^^

Wait but "schlecht" means "of poor quality".

So it'd be more like Stark Boese.

And to crush anyone's hopes of foreign names, the foreign language subtitles for the subtitles project use the English names. With the exception of :cheat: and :poop: whose articles are occasionally translated, and :kot: whose name is occasionally translated.

Okay, I guess that's kinda funny. But could someone maybe try to translate into Chinese? I have this Chinese friend who's only going to be here in America for the rest of the year before returning to China, and I would LOVE to show her this. Not that she'd understand the cartoon itself any better, of course ;) :p .
