The seek bar that you provide for the toons don't work (for Strong Bad is in Jail Cartoon and dragon).

Great job on the subtitles!

Works for me (I should know, I used it extensively when writing the subtitles...I put the frame counter there for a reason)
What happens if you try to use it?

BTW: you have to click and drag the box to move it - clicking the yellow bit doesn't work (though I could probably add that easily enough...)

Also (FYI) the space-bar and left/right arrows work too for play/pause and frame-skip...

Doesn't work for me, either. I can drag the box but it just snaps back to its previous position. Also, the buttons don't do anything.

Yeah, the sames happening for me. Maybe it works for you might be watching it while you're logged in to tripod. I know that happens to me a lot.

Great job! There was ads when I watched the Commandos... O's, but I just paused them so they didn't get in the way of watching the toon. I also like how you put Strong Bad's voice in red, Coach Z's in green, Strong Sad's in grey, ect. Nice touch.

*bump*

I know it's been a while... but still...
Bug In Mouth Disease

Also, I finally saw that problem with the seek bar. No idea what's causing it or how to fix it, and I can't seem to reproduce it inside Flash, or get it to run at all in the remote debugger...

Hey Philip, I was trying to use your system to make my own subtitles (using the upload test thing on the site), and I was wondering two things:

1: You don't mind, do you, if I try out your subtitle thing and all.

2: I think I've figured out what the numbers in the source code mean (the "!!259" part). Does !!259 mean something like 0:00:25.9? I'm just trying to figure out how the time system thing works, and then I'll be able to get started.

Nope. That's exactly what I put the upload box there for.

259 means frame number 259 - watch the counter with the seek bar up.
Most of the toons have 12 frames per second (the flash default) so frame 259 would be 0:00:21.6

If you do get them working, send them to me and I'll put them up on the site.

BTW - it's "Phlip" or "Phillip" - not "Philip" ;)

OK, thanks Phlip. I just have another question, how do you find out the frames of a swf file? Do you use a program of some sort?

I use the seek bar I built into the subtitler - since it works for me...
The first time, I load up a blank subtitle script with just the first bit in it so I can get to the seek bar and then I use it. As soon as someone starts talking I pause it and use the left and right keys to check exactly where they start talking. Voiceovers are harder as there's no lipsynching to watch.

Hmm, I wonder if it'd be possible to edit that seek bar scriptlet to include a frame counter... *thinks*...

This is pretty awesomr but how do you do it. What program do you use to get the words with the flash file? It is flash?

Pretty nice there Phlip. I only found one mistake. When the KOT is talking, he says "Well, what do you want we should do?" While yours has him saying "Well, what do you want me should do?" Just a small thing, but it's still good.

I think I has the solution!
I edited the seek bar bookmarklet to include a frame numbers, and step forward/back buttons.
Can't be used together with the subtitles though, or it will simply show what frame the subtitles wrapper is at, not what frame the underlying homestar movie is at.
I've sent this in to the guy who wrote the original seek bar, here's hoping he puts it on his site.

First I use some ugly hackish PHP tricks to get the subtitles text and H*R movie url from the text file into the flash movie.
I tried several methods of doing this, and chose one the which worked the best - which is to say it didn't randomly fail in FireFox, and while it doesn't work properly in IE at least it's for reasons I understand and have no control over (namely a combination of bad caching and a stupid webhost).
Then the subtitles flash file loads the main movie and plays it, in much the same way as eg the H*R main page loads the Quote of the Day, and displays it with a dynamic text field over it (actually 2 to get the shadow effect, but who's counting?). Then it checks every frame to see if the subtitles have to change, and if they do it changes them.

I thought about that one for a bit (since I use the transcripts in the wiki to save me on typing), and while it sounds like "should" I thought it might just be people mishearing it... especially since the KoT isn't known for getting his grammar entirely wrong like, say, Homestar is.
I thought it might be "...me to do?" with the t slightly softened (pronounced more like "tchoo") and picking up the d from "do".

But now I listen to it even closer and it's pretty clearly "we should do?". I'll fix that now.

Well, it might sound like "We" now because in your mind you were trying to hear it. Sometimes when you can't hear something your mind will make it so it sounds like you did.

Upload'd!
http://phlip.websiteallies.com/?src=sbemail98

I fixed a couple of mistakes, a couple of the subtitles were late, one was in there twice and one time Homestar said something in Strong Bad's colour. Other than that, great jorb!

Well my job is done, now I can just sit back and let everyone else do the subtitling for me :P

BTW: Rainer, the date on your computer is horribly wrong - the email you sent me was dated Sat, 05 Mar 2005 17:51:49 - it took me a while to find it since Yahoo Mail stupidly sorts by date sent rather than date recieved...

You can't subtitle it because when it plays the frames don't advance or something, like when you click on a word in a SB email and an object appears, and it makes no difference to the frame number.

The commentary is very hard to do, because it plays as a seperate sort of soundtrack. Even if you use the seek bar, you can't alter the position of the commentary, even if you pause it, the commentry keeps going. It's the same with the easter egg in dumb stuff.

Also, I think that you should make pages, such as "sbemail.html" and "toons.html", that redirect back to the main page, because when you click back at the end of most toons/emails, it goes to those pages (that don't exist).

And now I'm working on Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 9.2 (my favourite answering machine).

EDIT: Done!
