Maddox is just plain running out of material. His posts are on a "every other month" basis and his one about comic book covers was taken entirely from Something Awful. I'm a huge fan, but after the Dave Chappelle article he's been really reaching. In the past year he's done 13 updates, only a few of 'em were worth reading.

As for H*R, no complaints here. One of my favorite things about the site is that even if there's no update on Monday, I can still go around and watch old stuff and enjoy it until somethin' new comes along.

Man, DuctTape, you're taking the forums over today!

You're right about Maddox, just kinda depresses me that the updates are so infrequent and then so lackluster these days. But then, he's been doing this for over 7 years and makes his living as a programmer, it's amazing he's done what he has.

Yeah, I was probably somewhat of a Maddox fan awhile back, and I agree the guy's nowhere what he used to be, mostly because of the running out of material thing. It was always hilarious reading comments from grammatically challenged people who actually saw him as a threat to society, and his rebuttals were always PERFECT. Reading that site not only offered hilarity, but also interesting over-the-top observations, and it made me realize that there are so many things in life people take WAY too seriously when you think about it. Also, the feature where he made fun of children's drawings is one of the greatest things on the web - even my MOM thought that was hilarious, and that's worth something.

No, he's still quite funny.
In fact, my favorite article of all time is "I hate Cameron Diaz". The line in the whole article that had me cracking up is:

Quote:
Then as if the crew felt that they weren't being condescending enough, they keep saying "I can't believe how far away we are, we're in the middle of nowhere." Yeah, I'm sure citizens of Bhutan and Honduras appreciate being told that they live "nowhere."

Hilarious.

(You might need to read the whole article, http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=trippin to find any of this funny)
STRONG LANGUAGE ALERT!!!

My favorite Maddox article is his Garfield article. That's the only one I agree with him on.

I don't really like Maddox. We don't need swears and innendo to make funny anymore.

Keep in mind, when you say running out of material, you're not including all the material he's working on for his book (yes, it got cancelled, but he's still working on it), his comic books, his XM/Sirius radio show (in talks with both), and his feature length film which will be picked up by a major studio in the coming years for a national release... Just because he doesn't post often doesn't mean his material is running short.

I mean, the same could be said for H*R. They're delaying new levels and lacking on constant updates (yes, this is a huge stretch) because they're running out of ideas. What can you do after flying 3-Sprong plugs and the ilk? As for the last update, they couldn't think of anything funny, so they just ran a thirty second toon in slow motion (yes, I'm aware it was more than that).

To be honest, I'm really confused why you're insulting the man. Critics are always the same. They complain about an artists material lacking, yet they never create something of their own to use as an example for fear or lack of skill.

Yeah. He's cool. Hey? Did you check out the interview he did with SerialKillas.com? Maybe that'll be new and funny to some of you. He talks about TBC in there actually.

And please don't double-post. The edit button is your friend.
And I realize that the above quote is from the subsequent interview, but we don't like any sexism here.

Oh please, not this again. Can we not get out of hand like in the Boring (Really) thread?

Eh, no one's getting out of hand here. I hate critics altogether. There's a reason Tupac went around saying "Only god can judge me, now." Its [darn] true. As a music recording, article writing, film producing/directing artist, I can not stand when a critic of any nature, private or professional, insults my work, telling me and those who listen that I lacked emotion, lacked a balanced opinion, or lacked a solid vision (to name a few). The emotion I want to get across was given as I wanted it, so who's to say I was lacking in something I created? My opinion is that of my own, I do not need to be balanced if I'm right. As far as my artistic vision when it comes to film, pointing out its nonexistance is like pointing out its on a DVD-R.

I'm sorry. What was I talking about?

Please watch the language, Alexander. You might want to give the rules a read if you haven't already.
Thanks. -MHG

actually a critic isn't someone who doesn't make their own art...that's just the bad kind...it's only considered if they are noticeably better than your work and they comment...yeah, i don't know where i'm going with this.

Alexander: Sorry, it's just that your comment sounded nearly identical to one in the Boring (Really) thread, and that one got ridiculous quickly. Also, if you put your creation out there for people to see, you have to expect criticism both negative and positive. And you just have to learn to shrug off the negative remarks.

Yeah, I was once a journalism major, and one of the first things you learn is how anyone's work is fair game for criticism (to a certain point) if they choose to put it in the public eye. And I've heard that 'well, let's see you create something better yourself' argument SO many times on various music message boards and mailing lists even before I came here that it always makes me want to strangle somebody, even if I can kinda understand it.

Maddox has been running low on material lately, and it hasn't eased up since the making of this post either. But he is really funny. I went to his book signing in New York back in June of last year, and he commented on my Trogdor shirt. He apparently likes Strong Bad too.

Sorry for reviving this topic, but I didn't want to get one of mine locked again.

haha, no. Though I met some dudes on line who did. They were pretty cool and even got their pictures up on the NYC signing section (you can check in out under the finished tour).
