Do you guys think that The Simpsons is still funny? I've heard some people say that the show has lost its funny-ness, and that they should cancel it. I've heard other say it's as strong as ever. Personally I think the last season wasn't as good as some of the previous ones, but who knows what the next season holds. What do you guys think?

I'm leaning more towards 'No way, they should take the show off their air', but that's not entirely accurate - it's just the closest option on this poll for my feelings. When I've actually seen new episodes in the last couple years, there have certainly been moments of hilarity, but it hasn't been the same for awhile now. I just don't feel like going out of my way to make time for The Simpsons on Sunday nights like I used to. But the best episodes of that show.... just... wow. The show has certainly earned the right to go on as long as it has, just for that lengthy period during which it was the greatest show on TV.

I still like it. I haven't seen many new episodes but for even repeated episodes, it's still funny.

Simpsons is still my favorite show of all time, and it probably will continue to be. How can you say it's jumped the shark, it's still hilarious! People who say The Simpsons is no longer good or was never good need to actually watch the eppissodes, the WHOLE eppissode, and not the really early ones, eithwer, that doiesn't count. Something from season 5-now

Season 13 is my rough estimate of sharkness. That's when I stopped watching it regularly.

I'm really surprised that so many people voted that it's still as good as ever. Watch an episode from the series' peak (say, seasons 4-9) and then watch one from today. They are of a very noticably different quality.

Well, first I'll answer the question: NO. NO NO NO NO NO and, oh yeah, NO. But there is a big difference in the newer shows than the earlier ones. They're getting more and more- how do I put this?- anti-climactic. It's all rising action. You expect a grand conclusion, but they just get on a boat with some illegal immigrants, you know? And I don't mind. At least, for now. If it keeps going down this path, I will have some complaints. But not now. Probably not for a really long time, unless something goes terribly wrong.

It's been around for 16 years. It's about time they get rid of it and put Futurama back on.

Futurama is on cable, and why do you think they'd put Futurama back on if they canceled The Simpsons?

Because Matt Groening would have time to work on it if there was no more Simpsons? Bringing Futurama back is just a pipe dream for us fans. Actually, if they cancel Simpsons, I'd like to see Arrested Development take its timeslot. Not enough people have seen that.

I wouldn't exactly say it jumped the shart, but it's definitily not in peak form. The new ones really don't seam as good as the older ones. The plots seem random, and the humor isn't the same. I don't know. I hop this next season will be better.

In my opinion, the new eppissode was pretty good. Not great, but it had a lot of good jokes.

That's basically the way I feel. I've been a Simpsons fan for the majority of my life, and I watch the show regularly. I still feel that The Simpsons is an increadibly funny and awesome show, but I think it's best years are behind it. As long as the show continues at it's current calibur, I whole-heartedly think that is should stay on TV, but I don't think that the majority of the recent episodes can measure up to the episodes of Season 6.

EDIT: I just have to say that I'm currently watching The Simpsons season premiere, and it has one of my favorite chalkboard gags ever! :

If it had the option "It's still good, but not as good as it was", I would've voted that.

But it doesn't.

So I didn't.

After seeing the episode tonight, I'm convinced more than ever that the Simpsons needs to bow out gracefully before it becomes stale. It was fairly funny, don't get me wrong...but it just isn't the same anymore.

The episode tonight wasn't bad...until the very end. When Smithers and Mr. Burns were giving the manatee a bath. Not a good ending, not funny. They have these good ideas...but they just...don't seem to know what to do with them.

I think it's funny, but it's nowhere near as funny as it used to be, and I find myself rarely (if at all) going out of my way to watch it like I used to. In fact, I usually skip it entirely because it just...isn't the same anymore.

I really do think that they should quit while they're ahead on this series.

Like a lot of other people, I say that the Simpsons is still funny, but not as funny as it was in it's prime. I've been watching some of the older episodes from the DVD sets, and they always have me in stitches.

I can barely stand to watch it anymore. I watched last night's episode and it was very unfunny. Whenever I see an episode from...I'd say about the last 4 or 5 seasons, I change the channel.

I agree, the ending wasn't very good, but there were still a lot of great jokes before it. And I'm glad that one of the opnly chalklboard writings I have enough timke to read was the one in this eppissod,e that was great.

Lets face it, The Simpsons has rarely made me laugh out loud, but the show has so many great episodes, bad episodes can have very good jokes too:

MARGE: I don't care whether two people have the same "ha-ha" or "hoo-hoo".

NELSON: Ha-ha!

Correctamundo.

Season 5 was one of the best seasons. Not to say Season 6 jumped the shark, but it was my favorite.

I still love The Simpsons. Always have, always will.

Episode plots have never been good on The Simpsons.

I disagree, some of the plots are good. Mostly the older ones.

The plots that focus on Lisa are the worst. Homer plots are the best, because they mean more Homer. And more Homer = Very Yes.

I agree with DG, it just uses the same jokes over and plots over. How many time has marge left homer now? Well appeared to leave homer.....its old and will stay old. Take it off and give me the Futurama movie!
