It friggin' amazes me that we don't have a thread about this yet.

So, what do you think of The Simpsons? I personally think it's the 3rd-greatest TV show of all time. (Number one is Futurama, number two is Dilbert: The Animated Series, number four is Seinfeld, and number five is Gilligan's Island.) Alf Clausen is one of the best music.... um, guys ever, and the voice actors are perfect. Not to mention the jokes.

Has The Simpsons jumped the shark?

I don't know; I haven't watched any of the new episodes. I have, however, watched the first six seasons (minus season one) on DVD.

Favorite gag?
The "Bort" license plates:

Bart: Look at all this great stuff, Lis!
[finds vanity license plate rack]
Cool...personalized plates! "Barclay"..."Barry"..."Bert"...
"Bort"? Aw, come on. "Bort"?
Child: Mommy, mommy! Buy me a license plate.
Mother: No. Come along, Bort.
Man: Are you talking to me?
Mother: No, my son is also named Bort.
-- At the gift shop, "Itchy and Scratchy Land"

And later...

Man 1: Mop and bucket man to the exit of the "Nauseator".
Man 2: We got another jumper on the roof of T. G. I. McScratchy's.
Man 3: We need more "Bort" license plates in the gift shop. I repeat,
we are sold out of "Bort" license plates.
-- Inside the control room, "Itchy and Scratchy Land"

I love the Simpsons archive website.

Favorite episode?
I dunno. Maybe "Bart Sells His Soul" (rented it on the old VHS collection)? I dunno.

And other stuff too.

(I hope this prompts Mandy to make a Futurama thread. Or maybe I'll just do it myself....... nope, can't be bothered.)

EDIT: Oh darn. Whoops. Move me up, Scotty.

(Grr. Forum Games. Jeez.)

For me, The Simpsons is by far the best TV show. Hands down.

FAVORITE GAG?
There are so many good gags that I don't have a specific favorite, so here's one that I like...

From the episode "$pringfield"-
Marge gets addicted to gambling, and she forgets to make Lisa's Florida costume for a state-related pagent at school. Homer then has to make it himself, and it turns out really bad, so Lisa says "I'm not a state, I'm a monster!". Then Homer says "No, Lisa, the only monster here is the gambling monster that has enslaved your mother! I call him Gamblor! And it's time to snatch your mother from his neon claws!

FAVORITE EPISODE?
Probably Treehouse of Horror V. Brilliant.

Anyone wanna guess my favorite gag? :bubs:

C'mon, just guess.

It's NOT these:

"I've got it, jazz is like the new Coke - it'll be around forever."

"It's true, I'm a rageoholic! I just can't get enough RAGEOHOL!"

"Sweet merciful crap! My car!"

"I'm not normally a religious man, but if you're up there, save me, Superman!"

Jumped the sharK?: Somewhere in Season 13.
Favourite gag: Oh geez, uh..... let's go with "Mmm, 64 slices of Amercian cheese."
Favourite episode: oh geez again. ToH 5 is always a classic, but I also like some of the more serious ones, like Lisa's Substitute.

Yeah, I think that was definitely among the lowest points of the show. Probably as good a jump-the-shark moment candidate as any.

My favorite episode is probably The Stonecutters, as I've probably pointed out before, but there are an insane amount of good ones. Favorite gag is absolutely impossible to choose, but chances are it probably involves Homer. I should pull out the season 4 DVD soon.

My favorite episode is probably The Stonecutters, as I've probably pointed out before,

Who controls the British crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We do! We do!
Who leaves the Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do! We do!
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?
We do! We do!
Who robs cave fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do! We do!

Er...sorry, I love that song. :p

The Simpsons are gold. I can't remeber my favorite episode, but I'm sure there are like, 50.

EDIT: Hey, Sideshow Bob fans, I just learned that he's gonna come back this season as a mayor of an Italian city! YAY?

"Little Girl in the Big Ten" is the episode you are all dissing, right?

My favorite episode is Homer's Enemy or Lisa's Substitute.

Edit: And, of course, Mr. Plow.

I'm sorry to say, but I do feel that they're jumping the shark. I just hope the movie (that is, if there is going to be one) is good.

The Simpsons may possibly be my favorite cartoon of all time. The quality of the episodes definitely went down, but I don't think it's completely jumped the shark.

Favorite Gag: Possibly "Angry Dad". It was just hilarious.

"Let's see what's in the paper today," *Looks*
YOU SUCK, ANGRY DAD
"THAT'S OPINION! NOT NEWS!" *Head asplodes*

Oh man I just saw Last Exit to Springfield for the first time in years. I forgot how awesome it was. You all know it for "Dental plan! Lisa needs braces!", but there are so many other gags. Like the Grinch-like ending, Homer spinning on the floor after winning the deal, and Grandpa rambling pointlessly about onions and nickels and crap.

I watched that episode today too. It's great.

My favourite has to be the one with George Bush Sr. though.

Ah, you mean "Two Bad Neighbors". I like that one as well. But I think the part I liked most was the ending with Gerald Ford, where both Homer and him say "D'oh!"

I think my favorite episode might have been "Homer in Space". There were just so many great things about it, most notably the fact that Barney goes crazy after drinking non-alcoholic champange.

I like Homer-central episodes the most. Probably because he's my favorite character.

I miss the good ol' days though. The newer episodes I find...lacking.

I believe you mean "Deep Space Homer".

But anyway, yeah, I liked that eppy. An inanimate carbon rod winning the employee award? A 2001 parody? You can't go wrong!

How could I have forgotten? "Aww, they were about to show some closeups of the rod!"

And I forgot to mention: in Last Exit to Springfield, Kent Brockman actually says "argle bargle". :eekdance:

The Simspons is close to being my favorite cartoon. I can't choose a favorite episode but to me, the best seasons are 4 and 5.

Very yes.

Favorite gag?

Unitarian ice cream. There's also one that I can't post here, but it's from near the beginning of "Mr. Plow". And the Inanimate Carbon Rod. And how the stars on the Jewish Walk of Fame had six points, like the Star of David. And pretty much all of Otto's drug references.

Favorite episode?

"Lisa's Substitute"--the only episode of anything to make me cry every time I watch it. I also like "Duffless", because it was first aired on February 18, 1993--the day I was born. Cool, huh? HUH?!?

*walks off to make a Futurama thread*

The Simpsons is an utter obsession for me. I've been watching it since I was seven years old (I'm 23 now) and I still have to watch the reruns every day. It comes on twice a day, in the afternoons, and I have it set to automatically come on. Seriously, it's like my day is incomplete if I miss it.

Favorite gag?

So many. I loved the episode where Bart was enthralled with the old cowboy (Buck?) and Homer got jealous and gave Bart a poster of himself in the Farrah Fawcett pose to replace the one Bart had of Buck. Another one that made me laugh out loud was in the episode where Milhouse's parents divorced and Bart cracked a chair over Homer's back while he was in the bathtub. Later, in that same episode, I loved when Homer made fun of Kirk's demo tape. And let's see...I loved when Homer went on his neighborhood patrol with the Rapmaster 2000 megaphone (in the episode about the cat burgular). All the little kids in the neighborhood go, "It's Hammer!" and start dancing behind him. That's fricken hilarious to me, even to this day.

Favorite episode?

Again, so many. My alltime favorite is "Homer's Enemy". Loved, loved, loved poor Frank Grimes ("...or Grimy, as he liked to be called..." - another priceless line). The episode where Milhouse's parents divorced was great too. And the one where George Bush moved in across the street, not only for that, but also the introduction of Disco Stu.

Edit because I thought of another great episode: The Sideshow Bob caper where the Simpsons got a houseboat. That had me laughing from beginning to end. Absolutely awesome episode.
