This is like the "WORST. SONG. EVER." thread, but the opposite.
What song is pure awesomeness? What song sends a tingle down your spine? What song evokes a lot of emotion for you? Go ahead and post 'em. You can say how the song makes you feel if you want. Songs that do that for me that I can think of right now are:

More Than a Feeling by Boston
Peace of Mind by Boston - Awesome song
Rock and Roll Band by Boston - (Can you tell I like Boston?)
Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd - Teh pure awesomeness
Mull of Kintyre by Wings

Anyway, I guess you could say I'm into music. If this has already been posted, go ahead and do whatever to it.

Trinity by theSTART- it really evokes a lot of emotion, especially once you know that the singer wrote it about her father's death.
Silver and Cold by AFI- it's heartbreaking!
The Fire by Reel Big Fish is like sugar. It's very happy... fying.

15 of my random favorites I can think of off the bat - I enjoy lengthy songs very much:

Mr. Bungle - "The Air Conditioned Nightmare"
Deep Purple - "Child In Time" (yes, I'm aware someone put this on their 'worst songs' list... ;))
Belle And Sebastian - "Dirty Dream Number Two"
Sparks - "Fletcher Honorama"
The Beatles - "Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End" (this counts as one song in my book)
Red House Painters - "Grace Cathedral Park"
The Cure - "Just Like Heaven"
Dream Theater - "Learning To Live"
The Who - "The Punk And The Godfather"
The Velvet Underground - "Sunday Morning"
Genesis - "Supper's Ready"
Jane's Addiction - "Three Days"
The Replacements - "Unsatisfied"
Sigur Rós - "Viõrar Vel Til Loftárasa"

A few very, very good ones:

Africa - Toto
More than a feeling - Boston
Bat out of hell - Meatloaf
The Bell - Mike Oldfield
Walk like an Egyptian - The Bangles
Call me on - I forgot
Back in Black - AC/DC
You ain't seen nothing yet - Bachman turner overdrive
So glad to know you - I forgot
Men at work - Down Under
Rocking all over the world - Status Quo
I like to move it - King Julien :p

And a lot more... 'the best song ever' doesn't exist.

I'd have to agree. There is no "one best song". But there are pretty dang cool songs. :p Like Hotel California by The Eagles.

Amish Paradise by Weird Al(Funky rapping and overwhelmingly cool)

My two favorite songs have overwhelmingly cool feats.

Because she can't actually sing.

I think Why not was the name of the song.

I listed both Why Not(By Hilary Duff) and Amish Paradise(By Weird Al)
Both songs have overwhelmingly cool rhythms and singing/rapping.(Depends on which of them you listen to)

Don't have one favorite song. But....you're a butt. No. Ok. Whatever.

Birdhouse in Your Soul by TMBG
Ana Ng by TMBG
The live version of "Don't Let's Start" like on Gigantic by TMBG. This really sends shivers down my spine. Pure awesomeness.

I'd like to hear those song but I can't get them. I don't have a visacard or anything.
I like the few TMBG song I've heard, though. Especially 'damn good times' and 'experimental film'.

I have The Emperimental Film and Birdhouse in Your Soul. They're pretty cool.
Another song I really like is Don't Wanna Miss a Thing by Aerosmith. It usually makes me sad, because it makes me think of a girl I know.

"Free to Go" by The Folk Implosion: Already mentioned it on the "Music associations" thread, but I'll post it again here. May be my favorite song ever. Its percussion section sounds like it was performed on kitchen pots and pans, which, trust me, is a good thing here. Also combines regular drums, guitar, and what sounds like a cello. The lyrics are also really nice.

"Another First Kiss" by They Might Be Giants: Just an absolutely beautiful song. If I were to pick three songs to be serenaded to by moonlight, this would be one of them--the other two, incidentally, would be "Hanging By a Moment," by Lifehouse, and a song called "Whole Lotta Love"--no, not by Led Zeppelin, but a CD-only song by Smashmouth.

"Life Less Ordinary" by some group I can't remember: Yes, I'm terrible. I love this song and don't know who wrote it. But it's really cool. The chorus hangs around me for ages after I hear it: "The night you came into my life, / well it took the bones of me, / took the bones of me, / (something that I can't recall) / and you shook the bones of me, / shook the bones of me..."[/b]

"Renegade" by Styx: I love this song. It starts out very slow and melodramatic and then runs straight into the hard rockin'. Rules my socks, that's for sure! "Nevermore to go astray, / this'll be the end today / of the wanted man..."

"Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones, as covered by Vanessa Carlton: I really don't care much for the original version, but the cover is great! For some reason, I believe it more when Carlton sings it--she sounds more sad, especially when she says this line: "No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue... / I could not foresee this thing happening to you..." That, and I think her version uses the instrumentals better. Be warned, however, that not everyone will like her voice. It's a bit of the whiny side.

And though it's already been mentioned... "Back in Black," by AC/DC. Rock doesn't get more wickedly cool. Australian metal boys, rock rock on!

NOOOOOOOO!!!

You;re like, the millionth person who's said that cover was better. But, to be honest, Carlton's voice is pretty annoying. If you want to hear a good cover of that song, check out the one by "The Vines".

I don't have a favorite song.

But I do have my favorite artists.

John Cage. (1912-1992) Known by many as perhaps the most innovative composer of the 20th century. And a brillant man who touched my heart.

They Might Be Giants. Every nerd has a dream.

Claude Debussy. (1862-1918) He composed my favorite song in the known and unknown world, "Clair De Lune".

Ludwig van Beethoven. (1770-1827) I'm sure you know him ;)

And finally...

Erik Satie. (1866-1925) You must hear him.

And yes, I do love classical music.

My favourite song of all time would have to be Hotel California. It's so soothing, yet at the same time sort of disturbing and mysterious.

Here's some

-The Luxury of Tears by Christian Death
-Toccata and Fugue (in D minor) by J.S. Bach

Bands that have done better covers:
Mephisto Walz
The Tea Party
The Vines (yes... their cover is much better than Carlton's)
Incubus (although I cant effing stand them)

-Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus
-Shiori Hada Ni Kuuru Ai To Kanashimi Rondo (The Rondo of Love and Sadness) by Malice Mizer
-Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles

To each his or her own, I say. Personally, I found the Stone's original version to be weak in the instrumental department, and Jagger's voice tenuous and too flat for the subject matter of the song. Yeah, Carlton's got an annoying voice, but I find it to be stronger, and it sounds more properly affected. I've never heard any of the other covers, but downloading them all would break my poor computer. Besides, I'm happy with what I've got.

Nice to see that someone else here doesn't find classical and heavy metal to be mutually exclusive. :) I'm quite fond of Gustav Holst's "Planets" symphony, personally...
