Well, I think them saying that it had already been done was a joke. They mean that the introduction threads happen all the time, and they should all be made in the introduction thread.

Can't answer anything else though.

EDIT: Oh, the Beatle thread. If a topic has already been posted, it is frowned upon to make another one, cause it crowds the forum or something.

that you should do the whole"well, this has already been done, sorry, you suck!" thing!

I could understand if the thread was already on page 1, but really, the first 2 threads I walked into here had a "Sorry, man, this was already done by so-and-so(not the TGS one...), and he/she s better then you"!

this might get moved or deleted or whatever, but really, isn't it nicer reading those threads before WHAM! some guy brings the whole feel down on you?

Dude, they don't mean it as a put down. Trust me, if they did, they would be dealt with.

The search button IS there for a reason, though.

The introduction thread, for example, is there so we don't have 40000 "Hi, I'm so and so" threads.

Bumping and making repeat threads are both kind of annoying, but bumping is preferred. What's really annoying is when people reply to a repeat with a cold "ABP".

Yeah. For the past two months or so, a lot of people have sounded kinda nasty towards new members. I don't know if you mean to, but if it's someone who has a post count lower than 10, give them a nice welcome and kindly say "This ahs already been posted, though" with a link. I've seen people who say things like "Dude, use this thread!!" Not very welcoming.

Sorry if I sounded kinda mean back there, Peter... I was trying hard not to, but sometimes things just sound meaner when typed out I guess.

Peter, I said no. You are just going to call everyone an idiot because they said no? What should these people do? Say yes? You can't force someone into saying yes. If a person said no, it is no. You cannot force that person. You have no right to do so.

Yeah, and telling someone to shut up (like the other thread) is totally flaming. It happened to me once, and I was just joking.

Otherwise, welcome to the forum.

I am sorry you feel so bothered about people being mean...
They don't mean to sound so bad.

i agree it has happened to me a few times but i do use the search tool before posting a topic but that does not always work and if people really cared that much they would't read it i also have notice one unamed person who seems to do nothing but search every topic and go

"THAT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE!"it doesnt really bother me about people being mean i just dont think people care.

Bu why should we have mroe than one topic on the same thing? It gets confusing and takes up more room.

Though I agree, the search function doesn't work all that well. The main reason is people don't know they need to use and, but even then it isn't all that great. Is there any way we can get a better search feature?

I don't give new guys the "cold ABP". I save that for the experienced users who should how to use the Search Feature.

On one hand, it's not convenient to have five different threads for topics like "Are you left- or right-handed?", "Does anyone play Kingdom of Loathing?" etc. It's a matter of being well-organised and keeping the forums nice 'n clean.
On the other hand, it's hard to tell where the line between reviving old threads (which most people consider as a bad thing) and making new threads about ABP'd stuff goes. Doing the right thing when making a new topic is a downright paradox when you're not suppose to revive old threads and not to make new threads about ABP'd things.
