Look no way their gonna get off in that little wooden boat they found, but wat will happen at the countdown? (maybe nothing) and my thought is that its sort of like purgatory. The good people were taken away, the people who had an appithany got killed and they arent dead from the deadly crash.

A topic about LOST? Great!

Well, one of the big ones out there is that that boat is Desmond's. I suppose we'll find out, seeing as the finale is supposed to be a Desmond flashback.

By The Way,I do a LOST podcast! Check out http://inthehatch.com for all the details.

Have you tried The Popular Search Engine Google? Or, if you prefer, Wikipedia knows.

Wow, Shortest Wikipedia article ever.

Well, it sounds like streaming audio to me. Which doesn't work in the slightest with Dial-up. Ah well.

They aren't in purgatory. In the OFFICIAL lost podcast it was dismissed.

In case any of you fellow Lost fans weren't aware, there's a fan-wiki dedicated to Lost, thus confirming my belief that in the near future every fandom will have its own wiki:

LostPedia

Oh, and I will personally eviscerate anyone who posts (un-hidden) spoilers in this thread. And since we live in the age of TiVo, let's make the spoiler period the seven days following an episode's original (U.S.) airing.

This has to be my favorite TV series. It's pretty awesome.

Dang, I tried to use that LostPedia, but I couldn't stand all the wild theories it had. Wikipedia is the place for me.

^Actually, I'm really liking the Lost section at The TV IV. It's not as comprehensive as Lostpedia, but it's not as crufty either.

Maybe not literally, but the island can certainly be seen as a sort of limbo. Especially with the Others apparently judging all the castaways as "good" or "bad" and taking the good ones for themselves. of course this allegory doesn't go too far, as we have no idea what the Others' standard of good is. From last week's epsiode my (wild) guess is that
Quote:
they take people who they believe to be gifted or have special mental capabilities. Miss Klugh kept asking Michael if he ever saw Walt in places he wasn't supposed to be. Early in the season Kate(?) saw Walt in the jungle, speaking backwards. I believe Walt may possess a kind of psychic ability like telepathy or astral projection, and the Others are experimenting on him to harness this power. We know that one of the hatches is designated for the study of parapsychology, so that could be the hatch the Others are guarding.

Spoiler's for last week's episode in reply to DG:

Quote:
I'm really interested in what The Others want with Jack, Sawyer, Kate, and Hurley. It seems obvious Walt has supernatural powers (in addition to what seems like projection, remember what happened to his mom and to that poor bird last season?), so I can't imagine they're actually planning on giving him up, but I can't think of any reason they'd want the other four, except to just kill them off. Jack, Sawyer, and Kate seem like obvious noose-bait because they're the strongest forces in the camp and their absence would render the survivors a lot less ineffective, at least for a time. But Hurley? He's not really a leader. His only distinguishing quality is that he's extremely unlucky, or at least was before the crash. It seems like Locke or Sayid would have been better candidates if elimination is what they have in mind. Hmmm.

The producers have promised that the finale (tonight, but I won't see it til tomorrow) will reveal why the plane crashed, which is what I'm really interested in. Walt and Hurley both seem like sensible culprits, but I suspect we'll learn differently. I also read somewhere that this episode is going to be Desmond-centric, so we may get a little more pre-hatch backstory.

Uh.. Funkstar, stuff that happened months ago doesn't count as spoilers. You don't have to hide it.

It only happened a few weeks ago in the N of I.

That came out wrong. I mean, you only got to see it up close a fortnight or two ago. When it "attacked" Eko.

Ah, right. The TV time warp. I always forget that there are people elsewhere in the world who are actually willing to wait months and months for U.S. shows to finally air.

I only just started watching this show, so I don't know all the backstory, but I definitely watch to watch the season finale. Dad got me watching this durned show, dangit.

I can't believe the first thing I'm doing after I graduate from high school is going home to watch Lost. :homsar:

Totally what I was thinking.

Quote:
Kate and Sawyer saw that odd black horse, Hurly is just plain crazy or used to be at least, could he be needed by the others as the control group in the experment? He's really the only one who has really experenced difference between real life and a hallucination. And Jack is just the leader, no suprise why The Others want him.

I'd also like to point out the fact that when Michael asked Walt what he's been doing while he was away and he just said "Taking a lot of tests" and then Miss Klugh told him he wasn't supposed to be talking about that. It's a common theme in sci-fi that when training psychics their early years are always filled with taking a huge amount of random tests (possibly to stir up a trigger to their abilities when they try and cheat by searching for the answers in the proctor's mind). I also think the reason they took a sample of Michael's blood is to see if he has the same psychic gene Walt has.

I think the black horse is just that: a black horse. Very symbolic, sure, but I don't think it's anything mystical. It's been established that Dharma had/has a zoological station on the island (cf. polar bear, Dharma shark), or it might be the great-great grandchild of a horses from The Black Rock.

I guess we do have evidence of Sawyer having certain abilities, though, because if you'll recall he channeled Kate's dead father when he was near death himself.

Well, pretty awesome episode today, but it still left a lot to be answered.
Quote:
I figured it'd be Desmond on the boat, and I had a sneaking suspicion the button had something to do with why the plane crashed, but it tied together in a way I didn't expect. So this magnet is powerful enough to rip a plane apart in the sky? I'm really not sure what happened at the end there... was the sound and the whiteout just the pulse discharging? And is the Swan hatch destroyed? I really hope Locke and Eko are ok. :(

Oh, and it looks like I was wrong about the hatch the Others were guarding.

edit: Badri, we're only hiding spoilers

Very interesting season finale... How did Mr. Eko survive that explosion? It looked fatal, that's for sure. >.> And that magnet went nuts... is Desmond verifed dead? I didn't see what happened to him.

How did Charlie get out? I'm wondering if I missed something somehow... I guess I'll have to read the Wikipedia article. >.>

Of course I really hope Locke and Eko are okay. I also hope we don't lose contact with Sawyer, Jack, and Kate. Those three are pretty awesome characters and I want to follow their adventures.

With Jack gone, who'll take up the leadership role? Sayid?

AceDecade, please hid your spoilers. I wasn't kidding about the evisceration thing.

Anyway, I actually did get to see the finale tonight, and... wow. I guess I don't have much to say since I'm still, er.. processing. I'll return soon when I've absorbed a bit more.

I haven't heard any such rumors about Eko. Can you provide a link?

And how do you "know" Desmond died?

No, beardy guy isn't the guy from the hatch. The guy from the hatch is Kelvin Inman, played by Clancy Brown. We saw Clancy Brown earlier this season in the Sayid episode as Joe Inman, the military guy who captures Sayid in Iraq. There's been a lot of discussion about whether Kelvin and Joe are twins or if they're in fact the same person. I'm leaning toward same person, since Kelvin alludes to making orders and being a "spook." Beardy guy is referred to as Tom in the finale, or "Mr. Friendly" by the producers, and is played by a different person.

On another note, you know the foreign guys who call Desmond's girlfriend at the very end of the finale? The one who makes the phone call looks a lot like Matthew Fox (Jack). Same eyes, same mouth, same facial expressions. I could be wrong, but if you have the episode on tape (or downloaded), play it frame by frame and look for yourself. Unfortunately, I can't find any confirmation--LostPedia doesn't have anything and the Fuselage forums are actually down from too much traffic.

I think my favorite part of the episode was seeing the other end of the pneumatic tube with all the canisters piled up. Clearly the Swan station isn't just a psychological experiment--is Desmond right about The Pearl being the real experiment?

Oh, and what's up with the big four-toed statue foot?

Edit: And one more thing: Libby told Desmond that her dead husband's name was David. Hurley's imaginary friend's name was Dave. Libby was in the nuthouse with Hurley. Does she have an imaginary husband, or is the name just a coincidence?

Not really spoilers, but I do talk about the end of the show. Just a safeguard for anyone who, I dunno, couldn't watch last night and TIVO'd it...or something.

Okay. What the frig? Why didn't anyone go back to check out the hatch after it exploded (I guess). I mean, Charlie was just kind of non-chalant about his near death experience and the rest of the castaways were all 'la-de-dah let's go over here now'. Shouldn't someone have been just a bit concerened for Lock and Echo (Eko?)? *grumble* I hate this show *grumble*

Nevermind what I said about Jack...

The guy at the listening station who calls Penelope is played by Lem Cordova, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Matthew Fox. Maybe he's, um.. Jack's long-lost brother?

yeah, hes right,
