There were Final Fantasy games pre-FF7, you know. Just speaking out as my role as an oldschool fart.

Plus, FFX-2 and Tactics really don't count as Final Fantasy games per-se, as they're nearly completely different styles of game with the Final Fantasy name attached. The same nearly goes for Final Fantasy 11.

Oh yeah, as for what I actually think the best Final Fantasy game is, it'd be Final Fantasy 4 Hardtype.

Which did you like out of the first 6 games, then?

Um...all FF's are different. Notice the difference between, say, 10 and 7? Better graphics, no level system, completely different ability-learning and power-up system, etc.

The basic elements haven't really changed, though. They've messed around with the leveling system and jobs systems and whatever so much that it's not funny.

Better graphics isn't exactly a difference to note, since, given newer hardware was used, it just makes sense.

Also, I edited my first post before you had a chance to reply. Hope it answers your question (and if you're wondering exactly what I mean by Hardtype, I can give you more info on that).

Yeah, customization is awesome! I like using spears. Thank goodness for "Equip Spear"!

To me, FF7 is the most overrated Final Fantasy game, and is one of the reasons I've never sought out any Final Fantasy beyond 7. It may have been a nicer game if they would've given the characters more personality than a sheet of plywood.

FF6, dude!!!! (FF3 in US)

I got Tactics Advance, but I returned it the day I got it. I was dissappointed. It seems that all you do is fight battles. Come on, people! There's no overworld, and you cant even walk around in the towns!!!!

Let's see, which ones have I actually played? I don't own any, but I've played a few a little at a friend's house.
I played: 1, 7, 9, 10, 10-2, and I rented Tactics Advance and Crystal Chronicles.
Of those, I would have to say.... 1. I'm just such an old school fan. Plus I get to make tons of 8 Bit Theater references. :D

ugh. I can't play a modern final fantasy game without using a frickin' gameshark. I'm all about the story, I could care less about searching for items and levelling up.

Usually, the minigames end up being dull and pointless. Or at least they would be if Square wasn't comprised of a bunch of sadists who decided that the only way to get equipment of any importance was to play them over and over and over again.

FF7 and FF8 - Overrated. FF9 rocked, as you can tell by my name here. But FF3 had Ultros, and that won my heart.

And FF4 had Kain...

I used to be a bigshot FF fan...used to be. I dunno why, but I just lost interest in the series after VIII. I was sick of 20 minutes of movies for every 5 minutes of gameplay. Yeah, you can argue "But the stories are fantastic!" I concur, but the gameplay usually falls flat for me. Another thing that irks me about the FF games is that everyone labels them as "RPGs" when in fact they are acutally turn-based strategy games (at least the newer ones are.) RPG doesn't mean "turn-based combat and statistics", which is FF in a nutshell. RPGs are (or used to be at least) about character interaction amd immersion in a living, breathing non-linear world. Final Fantasy X is easily one of the most linear games I've ever played, with little or no replay value for me. Just my $0.02

Tho if I had to choose, it'd definitely be Tactics for the GBA

Wow, what a conveniently timed bump. I just picked up FF: The Dawn of Souls for GBA. I haven't played much yet, but so far it has satisfied my nostalgic needs. It's a very, very basic RPG system, but I like it.

There is a reason why it is called Tactics. But it fooled me too. I still like it though.

I voted other, brcause Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles isn't on there! That is one of the best, IMO.

I couldn't agree more. There were a few things about FF7 I liked, but the plot and characters bored me to no end.

Anyway, my favourite is FF8 but I like Tactics a lot too. And 6. Classic.

Either 3/6 or 8. I don't understand why people hate 8. I thought it was much better than 7, mainly because the graphics were thousands of times better and I liked the story a lot better.

And 3/6 had the greatest music in any video game ever.
