Not bad, not bad. 6/10 easy. It's great that we're seeing Marzipan again. Love all her new expressions-- especially the cheesy grin. Strong Sad having a date with the wall and the Death Hole were GREAT. :D

This was one of the oddest toons I've seen, but I still liked it. My favorite parts were...

Homestar making that clicking sound when he wishes Strong Sad good luck.

:hr: What in Pete Sampras is going on?!

The death hole gag.

Homestar trading in his shades for a bag of 4 grapes.

And of course, getting to see more Homestar than Strong Bad for once. Anyways, I give this toon an 8.4/10.

Cool Tapes! :marzi:

Eh, might as well make at least one legitimate post today.

Just saw the cartoon a few minutes ago, and while it's not my favorite, it certainly ranks very highly on the list. It was nice to finally see the site focus on Homestar for once rather than Strong Bad.

The death pit and Bubs stealing from himself were definitely the highlights, as well as Strong Sad's "I wish I had a date with a wall..." and "I can only exchange it for something of lesser or much lesser value."

And yeah, I'm pretty sure Strong Sad says "Homesar."

I give it 7/10.

It's time to play "Guess the Connection". Can you guess what this cartoon, Bottom 10, and For Kids have in common? They're all cartoons that almost entirely failed to make me laugh, and then I get onto the forum and am baffled to see that everyone else finds them hysterical somehow.

I only laughed once: at Dripping Yellow Madness. The non sequiturs with the death hole and bag of grapes didn't seem funny, just bizarre. The song was boring and even Bubs, who usually gets a smile out of me, fell flat. I'd say it's the worst main toon ever, but there is The King of Town... still, I have to give this an F.

Wow. You know I was a little surprised by the reaction here too. I liked it, but I didn't think a lot of other people would. I don't know why, I just feel that sometimes.
Still, an F? Come on. You can do better than that! :p

You don't like "for kids?" That's like one of my favorite emails!
Whatever. You're opinion is your opnion. :)

Pretty solid toon. The death pit got a laugh, Bubs' stealing, etc.

Missy's a pretty good singer...

One slight gripe though, and that is the lack of Pom Pom. Sure, they toned SB down a bit, but how hard is it to fit Pom Pom in a toon or e-mail somewhere?! I miss the guy.

I wonder why everyone seems so mad that Strong Bad is in the toon. He is the co-star of the show, along with Homestar, and it makes sense to know what he's up to. It's nice to have Marzipan back, and the toon was very cute. It's nice to see some more of their relationship! I was very surprised that Strong Sad's date with the wall wasn't an easter egg. I expect he was rejected by her, too. I also liked that Marzipan's band was The Cheat and Strong Mad; that shows that she's so nice that she will hang out with most everyone. Except Strong Bad, of course.

You know, when I saw there was a new toon today, I was very excited. But after watching it, I realized that I didn't find it that funny. Which is a shame... cause I wanted it to be funny. It just wasn't about anything cool! But the only thing I laughed at was the easter egg with Strong Bad at the end. Oh well... I'm sure the next toon I'll like better.

Oh. My god. MAN. This is the best Big Toon so far. More so than A Jorb Well Done, my previous fave. I keep rewatching it, and I smile through the whole thing every time. Everything was right on the mark, so funny. This toon really makes me sad that Flash doesn't have a rewind feature - I'd love to be able to just go back and listen to things over and over (I'm weird like that). I love Bubs more and more each time he's used.
Faves:
"Uh, hello? Maybe because I like cool tapes?" "Waah-waah-waaaah!"
"I slipped the cool shades inta Can Number 2"
"Look, I'd love to stay and argue that you are in fact Dripping Yellow Madness..."
"And, uh, good luck tonight *chk chk*"
"The sales representative I dealt with gave them to me free of charge."
"Without a receipt, I can only exchange them for something of lesser or much lesser value."(I work in retail, so this one is incredibly funny to me)
"What kind of... MUSIC do you play?!"

About halfway through I thought to myself, "maybe this is supposed to be ironic or a parody." It's all like such a bad sitcom and it's probably the first time I've been disappointed by something on HR. It's the first time I haven't laughed at all. The jokes were all recycled and stale and the "randomness" (which is a very important device in HR) was totally contrived.

All in all, I'm seriously bummed about it and still hoping it was supposed to be on the dodgy side. The evidence for that is in Marzipan's funny little toothy "EEEE!" expression, which is totally reminiscent of low-brow TV like 'Friends' and totally out of character.

But it still just wasn't funny.

TBC, Hire a Writer....

Seriously... they have talent. Good flash skills, good voices, interesting character ideas, but the stories typically are disconnected and uneven.

My favorite toon ever was where Strong Bad interviews Homestar. C'mon though... you all have to admit they need a real writer.

I think they're fine. They seem to do a great jorb of writing.

I'm surprised that there is negative reaction to this. This is one of my favorites of all time.

The Cool Tapes song rocked.

As is mine.

If TBC got a writer, everything would be completely different. I don't think you see the impact it would have.

They write everything, and H*R is hilarious. Having a writer would change the style and drain the appeal.

Isn't that the whole point?

They've written their own toons for 5 years, a writer would change everything!

No way! :sm:

This toon didn't hit the spot for me but bringing in a writer would make things worse. It'd end up too contrived, which is my main problem with this one. It's like self-parody. I really hope it was intentional. All the parts that make HR great are there but it just doesn't work. Maybe they already got a writer? Haha.

i liked this one a lot! there was lots of very funny lines and lots of randomness which i love. this turned out to be my sister's birthday present from me (thank you TBC!) and she loved it. some of my favorite parts were the deth hole (looks like the world class hole finaly came, just not in strongbadia) and homestar's sales rep. line.

in conclusion, writer=very no

Big high fives to Acekirby and Firebird for calling this toon the classic that it is - I seriously can't believe any Homestar fan can actually hate it! I just rewatched it a couple more times, and yeah, I can maybe kinda see how some wouldn't find it overly funny. Fine. But I just fail to see anything terrible about it whatsoever.

TBC getting writers = BAD IDEA. It might give them more 'focus', but that randomness is a lot of what makes H*R great in the first place, and the result could actually justify the ridiculous 'jump the shark' comments a few have made.

Humour: 92.6

I enjoyed the randomness of this 'toon, but I prefered Bug in Mouth Disease a little more.

Sound: 99.4

The nice little music at the beginning was enjoyable, and the song at the end was awesome.

Innovation: 78.9

Marzipan gives us a big smile; little-to-none Strong Bad.

Overall(averaged): 59.43

A good toon; it could be better.

Man you people are demanding. The Brothers work hours on these free cartoons you snap them down just like that. I don't know what you expect from them but I for one thought this toon was great.

You've got a point. Has anyone noticed that the toons are getting more and more.. plotless? I mean c'mon, Homestar overreacting over swallowing a bug? It makes me want a Stinkoman 20X6 level every day!

Less plotless means more plot. That would mean the plot is getting better.

More plot doesn't necessarily mean it's better.

I think that's what you were trying to say. Am I right?

I thought he was trying to say that not having a plot was the plot. Could I be wrong? Ya, I bet I am. :p
